All right, let's jump into today's episode. Hey O. Welcome to the $100 MBA show, the business show that helps you grow every day with our daily 10 minute business lessons. For the real, I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the $100 MBA, a complete business training and community online. And in today's lesson you will learn how to use podcasting to make more B2B sales. If your business sells to other companies, other businesses, you know it's all about relationships. And one of the best ways to build relationships is through a podcast. Podcasting offers you a way to meet amazing people, great entrepreneurs. Best of all, it's a win win. They can come on your show to talk about what they're working on and get some promotion for what they're doing. And you get some great content and get the chance to build relationships with the best of the best in your niche. Now, I have to say that podcasting does require some work and some dedication and some consistency. But having a weekly interview podcast is something you definitely can add to your business. So in today's episode, I'm going to show you how to get started. And how to starting a podcast can help you make sales and build those relationships with other businesses. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. As you know, I am a podcasting fan, right? Not only do I run this podcast, but I've been doing it for five years with, of course, our team, Nicole, our producer, Connor, our content creator and show notes specialist, and of course, last and definitely not least, our sound engineer and editor, Carl. Together, we have created a show that has served literally hundreds of thousands of people. We have had over 95 million downloads over the last five years with over 1300 episodes. So, yes, it did require a lot of effort and a lot of work. I should say it requires a lot of effort and a lot of work. But it's helped our business grow in ways I could not imagine. And the biggest way it's helped us grow is through the relationships we've built. Now, even though this is not an interview podcast, I still have built relationships through our guest teachers. We only have guest teachers about two or three times a month, but it still allowed me to build those relationships. Other entrepreneurs, other companies, other businesses are constantly working on things, launching new things, launching new books, launching new programs, products, and they want a way to tell the world. They want to get onto media, and podcasting is the new media. In fact, it's so strong that many people prefer to go on a podcast than go on the local news. Why? Because podcast listeners are loyal. They love their hosts, and they've built a connection with them, and you have their full attention. Now, what does that mean for you as the podcasting host or the podcaster? Well, it means you have value to offer people, people that you want to build a relationship with. For example, one of our guest teachers, Stefan Priddy from Subly, we've collaborated and he's a guest on our show. And because we built that relationship, he became a client of ours with Webinar Ninja. It works the other way as well. We've had Dan Martell, serial entrepreneur, created and sold several businesses and is an expert when it comes to SaaS businesses. He's a SaaS coach, and because we built that relationship, he's now our business coach. He's our SaaS coach and I've been exposed to a lot of great relationships through that connection and it wouldn't have happened if I didn't have the podcast. So podcasting opens up the opportunities for you to build those relationships to grow your business. One of the easiest ends or starting points, if you have a hit list. When I say a hit list, I'm talking about a list of companies, people you want to do business with. One of the easiest ways to get started and start that relationship so you can do business with them and have them as clients, is to offer them to get on your podcast. It's hard to say no to free publicity and that at least gets you to get started in that relationship. You have an email correspondence, you have a great conversation through the podcast and that allows you to build upon that and see if you can take it that a step further and offer them your products or services if you can help them in some way. So you might be saying, sounds great, Omar, how do I get started? Well, starting a podcast, it's actually not that hard. You just need a microphone, a quiet place to record, and some editing software. You can actually get started on your own. You don't need a big production team. You don't need a team like we have because we're a daily show and we've been doing this for some time. But just to get started, you know, that's how we got started. We did everything ourself. Grab yourself an ATR 2100 and use Audacity, which is an absolutely free software you can download to edit audio. If you have a Mac GarageBand is free on your computer. You could edit your podcast that way. Now, this is not a how to A to Z lesson on how to start a podcast. You can check out our archives for that just go to our website, 100mba.net show but it's relatively easy to start. Now, what you want to do at the start, when you launch your podcast, you want to start with the relationships you already have. Any kind of person that's in your niche, that's in your marketplace that you already know, have built a relationship, you want to make a list, I would say a minimum five to 10 people.
Why?
Because you want to be able to record your first five to 10 episodes before you launch, so you have some leeway. Also, you want to have an established show with real guests that have been on the show before. You reach out to those people on your list where you want to build relationships. No one is going to say yes To a complete stranger that they don't know to be on a show that's absolutely new, that hasn't published a single episode. That's why you're leaning on the relationships. You already have to get your first guests. They know who you are, they know you're credible. They know you're going to follow through and actually launch the show. So once you have your first 10 episodes in the can, you can launch the show and you know you can release an episode once a week. That gives you 10 weeks to get those people on your list that you want to build relationships with. Now, by the way, those first 10 people, the people that you leaned on, your already built relationships, this reinforces your relationship with them. You, you're helping them out, and you're also getting them exposure through your podcast. They're going to love telling their story. Now, what's awesome about podcasting is that once you do an episode with your guest, your guests can share that episode with their audience. If it's a good episode, if they actually enjoyed themselves. And that exposes you to their audience. So you get to leverage, you get to borrow their audience. So if they're not an ideal client, then some of their followers might be also. Once you start building that relationship, you can start asking them for referrals. Hey, do you know anybody who'd be interested in XYZ or also being on my podcast? The whole point of this episode is to show you that podcasting gives you that in. It gives you that opportunity to start the relationship and start the conversation. But the key here is to see it as a relationship building tool, not a direct sales tool. Right. You're not supposed to get them on the show, publish the episode, and say, all right, great, I had you on the show. Now I want to sell you my product. No. Through that relationship, you get to learn about what their needs are and see if your product of your service can serve their needs. And through an email, through a call, you might be able to kind of talk about, hey, when I got to know you a little bit, I found out X, Y, Z. I found out that you might need this, I might need that. Would you be interested in getting a call with me? I might be able to help you in these areas. Give them your calendar link and let them book a time. Make it easy for them to say yes. Now, if it doesn't work out and they don't actually become a client of yours, no problem. Keep the relationship going because they'll keep you in mind and appreciate you just being a friend. And being there and seeing their best interest in mind. They refer you to other people, you'll be top of mind and hey, you might get them back on the show as a great guest for your audience.

When I was starting out my business, I remember sitting at my desk late at night, not working on my business but cleaning up numbers, tracking and reconciling payments and wondering how this became my life. I love podcasting. Yes, it's a lot of work. Yes, it's commitment and yes, there's a lot of consistency that is needed. That's the name of the game of podcasting. A lot of people ask me how have you had success with podcasting over the years with the $100 NBA show? And I say to them it's all about consistency. It's all about staying consistent, getting ahead. That is really the key, is not giving up and hanging in there and just staying the course not skipping an episode, not skipping a week. Making sure you're serving your listeners and your audience and giving them the best show possible. What happens over the years is that you outlast the competition. The weak give up along the way. The people that are looking for short term gains give up along the way. People that are there for the long run, that see the long term vision of this strategy hang in there and they reap the benefits. They collect all the. The booty that's left over and you know what, all the different podcasting apps, whether it's Spotify or Apple podcasts or Stitcher Radio or any of the podcast apps they prefer, they give you a preference in their algorithm. And this is known for podcasts that have been around for longer that consistently publish. Why? Because it says, hey, these people actually are serving up good content every week and we can rely on them. Let's make sure they're seen, they're heard. Because these other cats here that are, you know, not publishing consistently, it's a letdown for the listener. And they don't go back to the platform. You're serving the platform by being consistent and therefore they actually give you a leg up because of it. But consistency doesn't mean a few weeks. It doesn't mean even a few months. I always say you have to give a podcast at least a year to see how it's doing. It's a long term play and it's a great way to build relationships. I can't tell you how many relationships we've built through the podcast, how many introductions we've gotten, how many ways we've been able to bolster our brand and our credibility through the show. Thank you so much for listening to this podcast. The $100 NBA show. This show would not have any success without you, without our listeners. So we want to genuinely thank you guys. Before I go, I want to leave you with this. It's Friday. If you had a long week and you're planning to do a bit of work on your business over the weekend, I'm not going to stop you. But I'm going to ask you to make that bit of work something new or something a little bit big picture. I want you to take even 30 minutes. Step out of the office, go to a park, go to a park bench, or even go to your backyard or your front porch with a paper and pen and write down what do you want your business to look like one year from today? What is it going to look like? What would you like it to look like? What changes? What improvements? Write as many details as you can and then ask yourself one question. What are the things I have to do to get there or to get close at least? Sometimes we get bogged down and lost in the weeds. We get lost in the details in the to do lists and we don't spend enough time on the big picture and remind ourselves why we're doing what we're doing. This will allow you to say, hey, you know what? I need to do a few different things in my to do list to get closer to my goal. So I'm still on track and my vision is clear. Thank you so much for listening and I'll check you on Monday's episode. I'll see you then. Take care. Of.
