Today's must read is the Go Giver by Bob Berg. This is a book I've been wanting to do a must read on for some time now. The Go Giver is a huge best selling book and it's for good reason. It's helped and influenced so many entrepreneurs. Now I'm fortunate enough to know the author Bob Berg personally. And if you know Bob Berg, it makes you love this book even more. An amazing speaker, a great thinker and a fantastic human being, the Go Giver is a little story about a powerful business idea. The beauty of this book is its simplicity and its practical stories. In the book, Bob Berg describes five principles, five simple laws that we'll be talking about in today's episode, laws you can live by in your business. You'll learn how to measure your worth in the marketplace, how to measure your influence and how to increase it, how much to be compensated, and again, how to raise that level of compensation and much more. Can't wait to get into this one. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. The Go Giver is one of those fundamental business books that you just got to pick up and read. It's going to give you a different perspective. It's going to give you principles to be able to build your business around. It's also a very easy read. It's personable, it's practical and approachable. So like I mentioned in the book, Bob Berg describes five laws, the first law being the law of value. Your worth is determined by how much more you can give in value than you take in payment. This means the value you give your customers overwhelmingly outweighs how much you charge. Now, this doesn't mean that you charge peanuts. It just means your value is so much more than what they pay, what they get. Their return on investment is huge. So even if you charge thousands of dollars, the value you give outweighs that. Drastically outweighs it. And that's really where your worth is in the marketplace. Now, we're not talking about self worth. We're talking about how much you are worth. Your company, your services, your product. If you're a freelancer, your skills. If you want to be worth a lot, if you want to be recognized as the best of the best in your industry, then this is the formula. You got to make sure that whatever value you give your customer, whatever your customer is looking for in your product, in your service, they get it. And they get it in abundance in comparison to what they pay. They say to have a happy customer, you have to give at least 10x value of the price. So that's the starting point. How much more X can you give in value with what you offer? Again, this is not to lower your prices or to cheapen your services. This is to encourage you to make sure whatever you offer that the value is exponentially higher than than what they have to pay for it. This could be a tool, this could be a software. Let me give you an example. We use a tool called Basecamp. It's a project management software and a team management software. We pay a hundred dollars a month, a flat fee for all our users, all our team members. The value we get, I can't even put a dollar amount to how Much value we get from that software because we're able to communicate through that software. We're able to post projects and discussions, ideas to do, lists, deadlines, calendars. It helps us run our team. We can't really think or even want to think how it'd be like without Basecamp. In fact, Basecamp could raise their prices. They could charge US$500 a month, and it still would be a good value. The second law is the law of compensation. Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them. Again, doesn't matter product or service. But this is talking about scale. How many people can you serve at scale? Whether you're writing a book, whether you're creating, again, a software or product, or a course, at the end of the day, if you're offering value and you're offering a product or service, if you can scale it out, if you can serve more people, compensation will follow. Of course, it's a very simple idea, but a lot of us, we forget about this. We think, hey, I got a great product. That's all I need. No, you need to be able to reach as many people as possible. You need to make sure that there is built in marketing inside of your product or service. Whether it's word of mouth, whether it's a referral program, whether it's. A good example of this is when Hotmail came out, there was a little signature on the bottom, say, hey, get your free email address over a hotmail. And there was a link where they click and it was on every single email that got sent via Hotmail. They understood, hey, we can't grow if we don't have enough customers. If you don't have enough people, enough users, are you doing any other marketing? Paid ads, content marketing, video, social marketing? How are you getting more customers now? Also, what he discusses in the law of compensation is that the bigger your impact, the more people you impact, the greater your compensation. It's just, that's how it is. If you create a product that's renowned, that people love and lots of people have gotten value out of. And when I say product, this could be a physical product, a software, a book, you're going to be known as a value giver. You're going to be compensated. You're going to have new opportunities that open up. People are going to want to invest in your business. People are going to want to pay you for your time, pay you for your knowledge. They'll invite you to keynote their conferences. The more impact you make, the more opportunities will appear the third law is the law of influence. Your influence is defined by how often and how much you focus on other's interests first. And this is all about relationships. The best way to build great relationships, strong relationships in life and in business, Is to focus 100% on the other person's needs by helping the other person without having to track down how much they owe you, without keeping score. When you add value, when you give to others, you naturally become attractive. People become attracted to you. They say, hey, I like this person. I want to help them out. I want to introduce them to other people. It's the law of reciprocity. People feel the need naturally to reciprocate. Not everybody. But if this is something that you just do out of habit when you try to build relationships, how can I help this new person I just met? How can I introduce them to somebody that can help them? How can I help be selfless and not worry about what I get in return? If this is a habit you do constantly, it's going to pay dividends. The majority of people are going to find a way to make sure it comes back to you. When people like you, they want to see you succeed, and you essentially build an army of ambassadors, people that will endorse you, people will vouch for you, that say, cheryl, that woman is solid. I would recommend working with her even though I haven't worked with her. I just know you won't regret it. Now, I love this because this is really what the law of influence should be about, how you can help and influence other people. Today, the word influencer is all about people on Instagram, you know, and it's all about them rather than their audience. And if you flip the script, you're going to get a whole lot more value in your life. The fourth law is the law of authenticity. The biggest and most valuable thing, thing you can offer is yourself. Every human being craves genuine connection, and when they feel like you're being genuine, you're being yourself. When you're being transparent, it resonates with other people in a very deep level. Simply being yourself is very powerful. Simply saying, hey, I'm a beginner, hey, I just started this business six months ago, but I'm keen and eager to do well. People that are looking to hire you will respect your honesty, and they'll even see themselves in you and say, hey, I was like that when I got started. I want to give this person a shot versus somebody trying to fake it, versus somebody who's obviously, you know, BSing it. And we all know, we can still BS a mile away. So authenticity is very powerful. Being real, being honest, it's refreshing in the business world. And yes, it may not resonate with every single person, but it will resonate with the right people. And finally, the fifth law is the law of receptivity. Bob Berg says if you want to give effectively, you have to be open to receive. Giving and receiving is two sides of the same coin. Like inhaling and exhaling something as simple as accepting a compliment and smiling and saying thank you in return instead of rejecting it. I love that he closes it off with this law of receptivity. Because if you give, give, give, give, and when somebody tries to give to you, you deny them that, you say, no, no, no, it's okay, I'm fine, or I don't need help, you're denying somebody the opportunity to give. You got to be open to saying yes. Okay, I'll take that opportunity, I'll take that introduction, I'll take that help. Thank you very much. And in my opinion, you don't really need to say what can I do for you? Because you're already doing that. That's the premise of the whole book. You're always giving, so the person's not expecting you to say that. It's not tit for tat, remember? So just being Genu and saying thank you and being open to receiving from others. So it's not this selfless idea of just give, give, give, give and never receive. No, it's okay to receive because it's the other side of the coin. You're allowing other people to give when you receive. Now here's what is awesome about this book. These five laws that I shared with you today that are in the Go Giver are actually taught in this book in a very interesting format in an easy to read fable with interesting characters. And you get lost in the narrative of this fable. You get bought into these characters and you learn these lessons along the way. So it's not a straight up how to book. Very clinical. This is what makes it such an enjoyable read. These laws are put into context and makes it a whole lot more valuable for the reader.

Reason why the Go Giver is a must read is that it covers the basic principles of just being a good entrepreneur, being somebody that understands the way the world works, the way we function as human beings, and rather go against the grain and fight it. We understand and accept it. I also want to say that when you adopt this philosophy, the Go Giver philosopher, you give selflessly. When you understand that your value is all about what you can offer other people, it just feels good. You feel like you're doing the right thing. You feel like it gives you a chance to not only help others, but give you a chance to practice helping others and practice your skill and your ability to give value. I highly recommend you pick up the Go Giver by Bob Berg. Fantastic book. It's the first of many of his best selling books.
