I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. And in today's lesson you will learn four simple health hacks that will improve your productivity. Do you feel sluggish by the end of the day? Do you feel like you're not getting enough done? Do you feel run down by the end of the week? Is coffee just not cutting it anymore? Well, if you said yes to any of these things, then you're going to love today's episode. These are four health hacks that I have actually tried and experimented with for the last few years. These are four things I think that make the most impact in your productivity. Some of these are very simple and some of them are going to require a little bit of effort, but you're going to reap the benefits. I found that after implementing these four things, I've been the most productive I've ever been because I've had the energy to fall through my body and my mind and my will are all in the same place. This is a really important synergy you need to have as an entrepreneur so you can actually do the things you set out to do. If you're frustrated with not getting enough done or not getting what you need to get done, then you're in for a treat today. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. All right, let's jump right into my four hacks. The first one is actually very, very simple. There are so many different kinds of supplements and vitamins and things you can take. Shakes, powders, pills. And I've tried a lot, okay? And I'm going to tell you that most of them really have a marginal effect on your health. They really don't give you that oomph. They don't really give you what you need. But there are two vitamins I take every single day, whether I'm working, whether I'm on vacation, every single day. And they have greatly improved my productivity. But more importantly, you can't be productive if you're falling ill all the time, if you're getting sick, if you're having the sniffles, if you're coughing, if you're sneezing, if you have a sore throat. This is imperative for me as a podcaster. You know, I podcast every day. I have a daily podcast, right? I do webinars, I do video courses. I do a whole bunch of things where I need my voice. I need to be in top health. And these two vitamins work okay. The first one is sort of like a multivitamin that helps prevent you from getting sick. It's like an immune booster. It's all natural, and it has a lot of great, good ingredients to just keep your body in check. Now, depending on where you are in the world, I recommend one of two of these types of vitamins. One of them is called Wellness Formula. If you're in the US you can get this off Amazon. You can get it from the vitamin shop, Wellness Formula. I recommend the capsules because the tablets are quite large and hard to swallow. But I'm telling you, I used to not believe in any of this stuff, but. But I tried Wellness Formula, and it does work, and it helps prevent you from getting sick. It's also really good to take if you feel like that inkling of getting sick, little tickle in your throat, you're supposed to take a larger dose. You maybe might take two every three hours when you're feeling about it, to get sick. And it really gives your body that boost to fight that infection or fight that cold. But even when I'm not feeling sick, I take one A day. And that really keeps my immune system in check. If you're outside the U.S. there's one called Armor Force. This one can be found easily in Australia and New Zealand. And this one is just as good, if not a little bit better. Actually, the tablets are a little bit smaller and I take one every day and it really helps me stay on check. Especially when you're traveling. I never travel without it because when you're on planes for a long time, you're in a closed capsule, your immune systems run down as it is because you're tired, you're not getting enough sleep. The this gives you that reinforcement. So some sort of multivitamin, some let's prevent us from getting sick vitamin. So either you take wellness formula or arm or force. Those are awesome, awesome, awesome. The other vitamin I take, the other supplement I take is vitamin B. Very simple. Vitamin B is one of those things that we neglect to have in our diet. And taking a vitamin B tablet, just one a day even, will give you an incredible boost. You know, sometimes if I have a very long day, I'll take one in the morning and another one in the afternoon and it gives me that second wind. So I take my Armor Force, I take my vitamin B in the morning, and I also drink it with some hot lemon water with some honey. So that's my ritual. That's a little kind of bonus tip there. But those two vitamins really have been the best and the most effective in my book and all the things I've tried. And they give you that extra oomph and protection from, from getting sick and feeling tired. Number two. And the second one I can thank my mother for. My mother was a dietitian for her whole career. And one of the blessings I didn't even realize growing up was we ate very healthy at home. In fact, I didn't eat much junk food at all as a kid. So much so that when I did go to college, I went on a little bit of a splurge and it was pretty disgusting. But I soon realized, hey, mom's right. Uh, let's eat, right? So when it comes to food, a lot of us were like, well, what do I eat? What do my diet? What do I need? Everybody's different. But I'm gonna give you a rule, and this is my second hack that really is going to make the difference. And that's non processed food. Try your best not to eat any non processed food. I'm gonna give you one or two days a week where, no problem, you want to have you Know something that's processed. You're gonna eat a hot dog at a ball game on the weekend. Okay, cool. But for the majority of the week, five or six days a week, I want you to try your best not to eat any processed foods. So fresh fruits and vegetables, if you're going to have any kind of protein, fish or meat or chicken, make sure it's fresh, not chicken nuggets. Right. It has to kind of look like what it looked like when it was alive. Right. If it's not pasta and it comes in a box, then try to steer away from it. Even with guilty pleasures like sweets. I have a sweet tooth. I try to keep it as pure as possible, whether it's some dark chocolate, dates and almonds. Don't get me wrong, I do splurge sometimes. Sometimes I'll have a Snickers bar, I'll have a Twix bar. I'll have caramel popcorn at the movies. But it's not my go to every day. So second, hack as much as possible. Whole foods, not processed foods. This is going to allow your body to be able to digest things quickly, get more nutrients. And those supplements we talked about, those vitamins, they're just going to be extra for us, to give us that extra boost. Not feeling a deficiency. Many of us feel sluggish because our body's working overtime digesting these processed foods. So we feel tired. Our body's working even when we're sleeping. You know, we'll have a meal and then we'll go to bed a few hours later, and our body's still working hard. You know, digest these foods that we eat. So we think we're getting rest, but our body's still working. And then we wake up and we don't feel rested. A good sign that you're eating minimal processed foods is that you're doing number two at least once a day. I know we're getting a little personal here, but it's a good sign for you to know because that means your body is flushing out everything and you're getting the nutrients and everything else is going. Processed stuff takes a while to digest and, you know, you're just not going to be going that much. I was an athlete growing up, and one of the things I learned from, you know, professional athletes is that they eat so clean that they actually go several times a day. Now, we're not gonna go to extremes here. We're not professional athletes at the moment, but keep the processed foods at bay. Try to keep it clean for the least five or six Days out of the week. So let's move on to hack number three. And this one's gonna be the most challenging so far. You know, taking two pills a day, super simple, non processed foods. Oh, maybe I gotta make some changes in my diet, a few things, but I still have a couple cheat days. That's okay. This one is going to be the one that you're gonna really need to put some effort in. But it's also the biggest game changer, but it's also the biggest game changer out of all of them. It's gonna make the biggest difference. And that's, you guessed it, exercise. Here's a little secret a lot of people don't talk about. I've experimented with exercise, my regular exercise, for years. I've tried working out once a week. I've tried working out every day. I tried working out twice a day. I tried cardio, I tried weights. I tried all this stuff, combinations of many things. And I still exercise every very regularly because I know the benefits of it and I've lived it. But I'm gonna give you the secret. The secret is, is that you're really not gonna feel an effect in terms of your energy, your productivity, your sharpness, your health, how well you sleep, all that kind of stuff. If you exercise less than four times a week. That's just the truth. I'm giving you the truth here. Okay? If you work out twice a week, if you work out three times a week, you're just not gonna get the full benefits. You're just not gonna really feel it as much as you should. And you're not gonna feel like it's really worth it feel. If you're going to work out three times a week, you might as well go four and you're going to feel the difference. I know that sounds strange, but it does make a difference. Your body starts to realize, oh, this is a regular thing. Most days of the week I'm exercising and I find the sweet spot is four days a week. Now, if you want to exercise more, that's fantastic. I tend to exercise six days a week. I'll play basketball two days and then I'll go to the gym four days. And that's just because I enjoy it and it's just something part of my routine. It's a good way for me to listen to books and it's a good chance for me to just, you know, center my brain. It has other benefits. When we were talking about the health benefits and the productivity benefits, four days is the sweet spot. You want to get your heart rate up. Every day of these four days, you want to make sure you're sweating. You want to get some cardio in. So my advice to you and I could do a whole episode on this, but my advice to you is find something that you somewhat enjoy, okay? Whether you enjoy sport, enjoy a league or something like intramural league, whether it's football or baseball or soccer or whatever it is, okay? Some people are like, well, I don't really enjoy any of that stuff. Well, what can you enjoy while you exercise? If you love true crime mysteries, listen to a true crime podcast. While you're at the gym, while you're at the treadmill, while you're doing the bike, while you're going for a jog. You gotta get it in. You gotta see it like a debt you have to pay. And I find that if you haven't worked out for a very long time in your life, it takes about three weeks, three weeks where you're working out four days a week for you to start to make it a habit, okay? It starts to feel natural. It's not that hard. You actually start looking forward to it because you start reaping the benefits. Now, the hardest thing about this is obviously to be consistent, but it's actually being consistent no matter what. So even when you travel for work, even when you travel for pleasure, even when you don't feel like it, when you have a busy week, when you're doing a launch, it's like seeing it as a priority. It's like you have to put gas in the car. So one of the things I now think about when I go to travel, I think I mentioned this in an earlier episode last week. When I look for accommodations, is there a gym close by? Is there a gym, part of the hotel? Is there a way for me to get that exercise in that I am required to do? Guys and gals, trust me, this is the money maker here. This really helps. You might be thinking, exercise. That's not gonna help me come up with brilliant ideas. That's not gonna help move my business forward. Yes, it will. Trust me. Healthy body, healthy mind. You're building habits, you're building discipline. It's going to affect you. Trust me. I can give you countless examples of other entrepreneurs that didn't make this a priority and started to see themselves go down. And they said, hey, I got to get my exercise and health in order. And they've shifted. They have so much more power, so much more energy, and so much more productivity. I can mention off the top of my head. Gary Vaynerchuk, he just got into fitness a couple years ago, and he's on top of his. Look at photos of Jeff Bezos 10 years ago and look at photos right now, okay? Google that and you'll know what I'm talking about. All right, let's move on to hack number four. Not as difficult as three, not as challenging, but just as important. And that's consistent sleep. The key here is the consistency. Okay? Everybody's different. Some people really need eight hours. Some people really need seven hours. Some people really need six hours. Some people are fine with five. Okay, that's kind of extreme for me. I would say the range is probably eight through six. Whatever it is, it doesn't matter what the number is. What matters is the consistency. So say this, for example. Your number is seven hours. You feel good after seven hours of sleep. You're rested and you're good to go. As much as possible, you have to get seven hours every single night, okay? You have to try your best. It's not good for you to do five one day and then do nine another, and then seven another. The consistency matters. Your body gets into a rhythm and it adjusts. It knows, okay, this is how much sleep I have every night. Let me get recharged every night with amount of sleep. So when I have those nights where there's five hours instead of the hours I need, my body's like, whoa, I haven't recharged yet. What's going on? And you feel sluggish, you feel tired. And even if I try to sleep up or catch up with that sleep the next night and do like nine hours, I still don't feel rested because, you know, it just kind of threw it off guard and it threw everything out of whack. So you wanna make sure you're consistent as possible, not only in the hours in terms of the number of hours, but try your best to be consistent in terms of what time you go to bed and what time you get up. So if you go to bed, let's say at 10, and you get up at 5am 7 hours, solid good stuff. But try to keep those times as close as possible. So maybe one night, it's 11 and then six. Okay, that's fine. But let's not go crazy and go to bed at 1 and wake up at 8. The consistency of the time matters as well. This is why, when I look at my calendar, sometimes I have late meetings. I have meetings at midnight, so I'm not in bed until 1 o' clock because I run a remote team. Sometimes I want to meet with somebody who's on the other side of the world if I know that's gonna happen. If it's on my calendar coming up, I make sure the next morning I don't need to get up super early. I don't have appointments because I'm prioritizing my hours of sleep. I gotta recharge so I can be at my best every day. Sleep is so important. I've done an episode on sleep and how it affects your productivity as an entrepreneur, as a leader. Without good sleep, with having have a clear mind, it's hard for you to make the right decisions to lead, to motivate, to be the captain of the ship. Right. So be as consistent as possible with the hours and number of hours, as well as the time you go to bed and the time you get up. These four are going to really change the game. The four biggest things that you can do, these are the game changers. These are the things that are going to make the biggest effect. Okay, there's other things you can do, but these are the four that really move the needle in becoming more productive, having more energy and being able to get more done vitamins. So the two I recommend is whether it's wellness formula or Armor Force and vitamin B, non processed foods for five to six days a week, as much as possible. Eat clean, your body will thank you. Later. You'll have more energy because it's not burning all this processed food all day long. Number three, exercising four days a week. Any less, it's just not going to be as effective as four days. And number four, consistent sleep hours and the time you go to bed as much as possible. Listen, everything I just mentioned right now is not super hard to implement. So why don't you just experiment? Why don't you just try it for the next two weeks? The next two weeks? Two weeks is nothing. If you're on your way home from work or you're on a commute right now, stop by a pharmacy, get those two vitamins I talked about. Exercise, you can do anywhere. You can go for a jog outside. It can be consistent just for two weeks. I want you to try it for two weeks and, and tell me how you feel. You're gonna love it. You're gonna be more productive and you'll be like, wow, I wish I did this earlier. I would have been a whole lot more productive all those years in the past. That wraps up today's lesson. You can take it day by day, and you can give a try for two weeks and see how you feel in terms of time commitment. You know, the exercise is going to take a bit an hour, four hours a week. It might mean you'll miss one or two of your shows or a couple of hours playing video games or whatever you do in your recreational time. But again, this is just an experiment.
