MBA1402 Is Growing Your Business Pages on Social Media Still Important? + Free Ride Friday
2 Feb 2026 · 11 min
Podcast episode (2019-11-22) hosted by Omar Zenhom on the $100 MBA show. Omar gives a ~10-minute lesson evaluating whether growing business pages on social platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) remains worthwhile: algorithm changes have reduced organic reach, but business pages still matter for personal brands, bookings, and—critically—for lowering ad cost-per-acquisition when running paid campaigns. Practical tactics include repurposing existing content, scheduling with tools like Buffer, and outsourcing posting. The episode contains sponsor ads (Intuit QuickBooks, Dell, ClickUp, Capella University) and concludes with a Free Ride Friday giveaway (winner: Korsta; prize: EasyCourse 30-day course).

Welcome to the $100 RMBA show Business Strategies. You can use in bite sized episodes every day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the $100 MBA the Complete Business training and community online. And in today's lesson you will learn Is growing your social business pages still important? For many years we've been told that we need to grow our Facebook business page, our LinkedIn business page, our Instagram business page. But over the years we've seen that these social platforms have changed our algorithms and the exposure these pages are getting are not the same as before. Is it even worth investing in growing your likes and your followers on these page? Is there an advantage to having a large Facebook page with many likes, or are those days long gone? Well, we answer that question and get into the details of the use of a business page on social these days. It's changed its purpose, it's changed its advantages, and it's changed why you should have one and focus on one. The reasons may not apply to your business and therefore it may not be a good use of your time and energy, but the opposite could be true as well. And that's what we get into in today's episode. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. For many years in the past, you know, you would grow your Facebook business page, for example, you'd get a lot of traffic to it because people would see your posts and your offers and your specials, and people would be encouraged to grow these pages. They would try to get likes as much as possible. In fact, people would run Facebook ads just to get likes likes on their page. So then they can basically advertise for free with their Facebook. But over the years, we have seen the algorithm change and the people that like the page aren't exposed to your posts as much as possible or as much as they used to on their news feed. So many people have given up on the business pages on social platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn. Now, for some businesses, this is a mistake. And I'll explain which businesses and why. Number one, if you're a personal brand, if you're trying to get exposure, if you're trying to get, you know, big time podcast interviews, TV interviews, you're trying to maybe eventually get your own, you know, YouTube show or Facebook show, or maybe even a Netflix documentary or special one day. Your social following matters because a lot of the people that make the decisions to book you on a show look at your social profile and say, hey, do they have an audience? If we get this person on our show, will it drive traffic to our site? Because there are people interested in this person now with Facebook, you know, there's a limit to your Facebook friends.
I believe it's 5,000.
So if you want to go beyond that, you're gonna have to have a page. So in this case, your social profile does matter. I know it's a vanity metric, but it's a metric that people that will be booking you on these types of platforms really look at now, if this is not your concern, if this is not something is, you know, one of your top goals in business or in your brand, then this is not something you should worry about. But, and this is a big but, this doesn't mean not having a presence or business page for Facebook or LinkedIn or Instagram for that matter, is useless. These algorithms still work and they still get you traffic and they still get you exposure. And if you have a hundred thousand likes on a Facebook page and that's an active page and people are posting and liking and there's a lot of traffic and a lot of engagement going on there, you best believe that Facebook will juice that up and you're gonna get more exposure because of that community. So it's not totally useless. If you've built something, you should try to keep on growing it. And the Same goes with LinkedIn. It's even more important. LinkedIn, because LinkedIn didn't water down their algorithm as much as Facebook. This is another reason why you should not really just give up on it. It still has its purpose. It's just not as effective as it when it first came out. Now, there's another huge reason why you should have a growing, you know, social media business page, and that's if you're running paid ads on these platforms, you're going to get a whole lot better cost per conversions when you're running ads, when you have a healthy business page, this is just how these platform works. Ads will be less expensive because Facebook understands your audience more, because you have likes on your page. And remember, when you're running these ads, you're running it from your business page. It's not from your personal account. That applies for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram. And I tell you firsthand, we have a whole lot more presence and a larger page for webinar ninja on Facebook than we do on LinkedIn. We've kind of neglected LinkedIn for a few years, and we're doing our best now to build that business page up. Why? Because when we run ads on LinkedIn, it's a lot more expensive than it should be on LinkedIn because they're having a hard time understanding who we're trying to target because we haven't built a presence organically yet. Yes, there are different ways to, you know, target audiences, look alike, audiences, you know, retargeting, all that kind of stuff. I totally get that. But still, if you're running ads on these platforms, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, you're running it off your business page. And if you Have a presence on your business page if you have traffic already, if you have likes, if you have an audience, you're going to get lower cost per acquisition. It's just a known fact in the industry. The interesting thing is, is that the more you run ahead, the more it increases your likes on the page, because many people like your page when they see your ad. One of the biggest reasons why we have a larger audience or a larger following on Facebook is because we ran more Facebook ads than we did with LinkedIn. And basically the system in Facebook understands who we are looking for when we're running our ads a little bit more. And as we grow our business page, the more that happens. Now, you can't grow your page if you're not posting, if you're not contributing, if you're not adding great content to those pages so that people can share these pages so they can grow organically and you can get that following. So, for example, yes, we're continuing to grow the Facebook page and we're posting there, but we're really tripling down on our LinkedIn page because we need to get that cost per acquisition lower. We want to grow our audience on LinkedIn a little bit more. So we're posting as much as we can on our LinkedIn business page, our blog posts, we're writing special content for LinkedIn, insights, tips, all that kind of stuff. You're gonna want to invite your friends on your personal LinkedIn page, you know, your connections to, like, your page, to follow your page on LinkedIn. So all that stuff is gonna contribute to the growth. But you can't grow if you're not posting if it's dormant. So make sure you're posting on the regular. Right. You might find it overwhelming. I gotta post every day. If you're making up for lost time. Yes. But luckily, there's tools to help you out, like buffer, where you can schedule posts. So you could literally just sit down for an hour or two, or somebody on your team can do this, or you can outsource it and they can do the posts for the full month and just schedule it out not only for LinkedIn but for all your social platforms. Listen, I'm the first to say I'm not the biggest fan of social media, but I'm also a realist. They still play a place in marketing online, and you got to play by the rules in some way, and you got to grow the audiences in the way that work for you and the platform. So these business pages on the platform still matter because again, you're going to be running ads through that business page. If you're running ads now, if you're not running ads, if you're not trying to attract anybody on social, if your audience are not on these platforms, which is very rare because most people are either on Facebook or LinkedIn or Instagram, then maybe this doesn't apply to you. But for most businesses, I know this still is very important, more important than I perceived recently, but learned the hard way. Oh man, we got work to do. We got to make sure that we're growing these pages consistently.

As much as we may or may not want to, business pages on social platforms still matter. If you're trying to get booked on shows or TV appearances or your own show, you're trying to get organic traffic to your site, to your brand off your personal profile. If you're running ads, you need to build these pages. They're important. The good news is, is that you don't really need to reinvent the wheel here. You're creating great content anyway on your podcast, on your blog, on YouTube. Just repurpose it, post it on social, share it. This is an amplification. This is a channel to share the stuff that you're creating already. You don't need to create anything new here. You can share things you've created in past and use tools like Buffer that allow you to schedule these things so you don't have to be chained to your laptop every day. Somebody wins every week. Our way to say thanks for showing us love on itunes. Before I go, I want to leave you with this. I highly recommend outsourcing the administrative tasks involved in posting on social. You may want to write the copy or have somebody write the copy, but the administration of posting on social using tools like Buffer scheduling it, making sure you're covering all your bases on all the platforms. You can easily outsource this to an ea, a virtual assistant. It's not going to cost you that much, especially if it's just a part time role. A few hundred dollars a month and it's taken care of. If you're running ads on these platforms, the cost of hiring somebody to do this for you will be dwarfed compared to the savings you're going to make in terms of the cost per acquisition. Just a small tip there as we wrap up today's episode in today's week. Thank you so much for listening and I'll check you in Monday's episode. I'll see you then. Take care.
