MBA1424 Improving Your About Page
2 Feb 2026 · 8 min
This transcript is from a $100 MBA podcast episode (host Omar Zenhom) teaching how to improve a website's About page. It emphasizes that the About page is often the second- or third-most visited page and should include clear calls-to-action (e.g., newsletter subscription), an origin/’why’ story, team introductions and culture signals (photos, videos, caricatures), media (video/gifs/animations) to show character, and hiring information/link to jobs. The episode interleaves multiple sponsor ad reads (Intuit QuickBooks, Dell, CarMax, Capella University).

Let me tell you about Intuit QuickBooks. When I was starting out my business, I remember sitting at my desk late at night not working on my business but cleaning up numbers, tracking and reconciling payments and wondering how this became my life. Outdo it with intuit QuickBooks QuickBooks is the trusted end to end solution that businesses rely on for getting paid, managing finances, paying employees, finding new customers and more. Hey O. Welcome to the $100 MBA show where good things do come in small packages every day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. And in today's episode you will learn how to improve your about page. Believe it or not, statistically your about page is most likely to be the second or third most visited page on your website. That's pretty crazy. Your homepage of course is number one, but often it's number two or right there number three. Are you taking advantage of that traffic? Today we're going to be talking about some easy things you can do to improve your about page so you can capitalize on that traffic. Many people go to your about page immediately because they want to learn about your company, about your business, who's behind it. It's also a page that ranks very high on Google when you search the name of your business. It's also the page that's used on many voice enabled devices like Alexa and Google and Siri. It's where those types of devices gets information about you and your company and you know, repeats it out to the person that's asking. So it's a critical Page, let's make the most of it. That's what you're going to learn in today's episode. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Like I mentioned, your about page on your website is critical. You want to make sure that you capitalize on all those visitors coming to that page. The first thing I want to mention is that every page on your website should have a call to action, meaning you want people to do something to take action on that page. One of the easiest things that you can get people to do on this page is to subscribe to your newsletter to get updates. Basically give their name and email address. You want to get them on your email list so you can nurture that customer. So somewhere on this page you want to capitalize on the fact they're there and that they're learning about your company. So we are revamping our about page and we're actually launching it very soon. And we're going to be doing this and the way we're going to word it is, hey there. Thanks for checking us out. If you want to learn more about what we think about webinars about business and how to do it right, subscribe to our regular updates. We're going to give you some emails and some great tips and keep you in the know when it comes to all things business and webinars. This is a page you want to take advantage of. So ask them to subscribe. Not everybody will, but many will. And you want to make sure that you have that opportunity to a lot of people just kind of let people do nothing on that page. So make sure you have a call to action. Number two. This is where you could sell your why sell your story? Why did you start your company? What's the backstory? What's your origin story? Why do you get up in the morning every day? This is a chance for you to really tell people why they should fall in love with your reason why you built the business. This has an incredible impact. People love learning about businesses and why they got started and who are the people behind it. That takes me to the next point of your about page is to show off your team. If you have other teammates working with you, this is a good chance to show your company culture. Show pictures of the people that are on your team. What do they do? What are their responsibilities? This is a good way to also reward and recognize your teammates. You'll see on our about page. We have everybody on our team on our page, but we also have created caricatures so they're caricatures of ninjas. So they're actually in little karate uniforms doing some karate stance or kick or jump. And it's a way to show the user, even though we are a powerful software, we don't take ourselves too seriously. It's an easy to use, friendly software with a friendly team. Many people go to your about page as well if they're looking to join your team. So if you're looking to grow your team, you're even hiring one position. That's one thing that your candidates are going to look at. Even though you're interviewing the candidate, they're also interviewing you. They are seeing if they're a good fit in your company culture. So you need to sell your business to them as well. One of the things that we're going to be adding is a video of our team, some shots of us at a team retreat, and what people think about working for Webinar Ninja, because we'll have a link to our jobs page right under there. So they'll get a glimpse of what it's like to be part of the team and. And get them excited. You want to attract the best talent, and you also want to attract people that are like you, that will resonate with your culture. I also want to say that your about page is your chance to stand out. You don't have to follow a formula or a template or be like every other company or try to find another website that you like and just, you know, kind of rip it off. No, this is where people see your character and see how you're different. So try to just make it your own. Try. Don't feel obliged to kind of follow some sort of template with corporate stiff photos and mission and value statements. I'm not saying you don't have to share the information. That information is valuable. But you don't have to do it in a way that's so prescriptive. So you look like every other about page. What you want to do here is you want to surprise people. You want people to say, hey, this is different. This is cool. This company actually put some thought into telling me or showing me what their business is all about. If there's something unique about your team, like, for example, if your whole team is remote, show that off. Tell people, hey, we're a totally remote team. On our site. We say, you know, how many countries everybody's based out of or how many cities. This is pretty cool information. If you have offices in seven different countries, that's an awesome piece of information to add to your About Page. If your team speaks, you know, 14 different languages, that's pretty cool. That shows personality. That shows your diversity. It communicates a message to the reader. So embrace your difference. Show it off. People want to hear about it.

Edu when it comes to your about page, don't be afraid to have some fun. Add images, animated gifs, videos, big bold statements, even animations. Why not show your character? This is the time for you to show off your team, show off your company, be proud of yourself, and to tell your story. People are hitting this page frequently. Capitalize on all those visitors and again of course, give them a call to action. Get them to sign up for your newsletter so that you can continue to build that relationship. This is all a part of establishing your brand, and your brand is what people say about you when you're not around. And where are they going to get the information?
