Hey O. Welcome to the $100 MBA show where entrepreneurs get their daily oomph every day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teach Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the $100 MBA, a complete business training and community online. And in today's lesson you will learn. Are you confusing your customers? There is one golden rule in sales and marketing you should always remember and that's a confused mind never buys. Are you confusing your customers on your website, on your sales pages, on your pricing page, with all your different plans and options in your offers? When your customers are confused, they give up. They do not buy. But when you make things simple, when it's clear, when it's Direct you make it easy for them to make the decision to go with you. In today's episode, I'm going to highlight what are the things that can confuse customers, how to steer clear from them, and how to simplify your message and your offer to make sure you make it as easy as possible for your customers to say yes to your business. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Every time I need to communicate with a customer, whether it's on a call, whether it's on a webinar, I'm making a sales offer, I'm building a landing page, I'm deciding on pricing. I always tell myself, a confused mind never buys. It's one of the best reminders you could tell yourself because it reminds yourself that, hey, I gotta make things simple. One of the things you need to remember is that you know your business better than anybody else. You know your product very well, you know your services, you know the ins and outs. It's simple for you, but it's not simple for the newcomer. The person that doesn't know anything about your business, who's just in pain, who needs a solution to their pain, you have it. But if it's not clear to them that you have it, they're going to leave. So you got to simplify everything. Your messaging, your wording, your copy, your videos, your offers. And you got to remove all confusion as much as possible. And one of the ways to make sure you're simplifying your message and not confusing your customers is the rule of three. The rule of three means you will not bombard your customer with more than three things at a time. Three is the maximum. If you can hit them with just one message, and it's a powerful one, that's even better. But I'm giving you some leeway here because a lot of us, we love our product, we love our service, and we want to say, hey, it does this, this, this, this, this, this and this, but that's just too much for somebody new. It's overwhelming. They're going to say, this is, you know, too much for me. I don't know if I can do this. I don, I can handle this. I don't know if I'm ready. These are all turn offs for a customer. But if you have three things, no more than that, it's easy to focus on three. It's not overwhelming. So if we're going to take your homepage, for example, on your website, you're only going to focus on the three biggest advantages of your Product or service? What are you most known for? What do your customers love the most? Just focus on those three. If you can focus on two, that's even better. If you can focus on one, that's amazing. The rule of threes is to prevent you from going overboard. For example, at Webinar Ninja, we focus on these top three things. Why people choose Webinar Ninja? Well, I don't have to guess. I just ask our customers. We have surveys all the time. We have nps and we learn from our customers. The reason why they love our product so much are these three things. Number one, it's easy to use. They love how easy it is. They love how it's simple and user friendly, easy to use, number one. Number two, it's all in one. They don't have to buy other software, they don't have extra costs, and they can just do everything in one area all in one. And number three, they love the customer support. They love our support agents. They find it super helpful. They find it to be the best support in the business. And these are the three things I focus on. I can go on forever about Webinar Ninja. There's so many things I could talk about, all the different features, all the different benefits, all the things it could do for your business, but I have to resist because I don't want to overwhelm, I don't want to confuse. I'm going to focus on the three biggest ones. And then when they ask me questions on a webinar via email, in a Q and a webinar on a sales call, I can address those specific things and I can give them more details, but I'm not going to overwhelm them from the start. Let's go to your pricing page. Are you overwhelming your customers with all these different plans, all these different options? It depends on your product, depends on your business. But you really should try your best to be in the three area, right? Three plans, three options. Some companies only have two options, right? And that's even better. Some have one option, like Basecamp. You go to basecamp.com, they have one plan. That's it. There's no confusion there, right? There's just no other option. You either buy that or not. That's it. And therefore, if they're sold on the product, there's no roadblock, there's no which plan should I go for? There's only one to go for, right? So you could see how, when somebody's not confused, how easy it is to buy. Now, I am a believer in value metrics and having tiers and giving more value and increasing your expansion revenue in that way. So it's okay, okay to have tiers, but don't go overboard. You know, if you go to Salesforce, for example, incredibly confusing. There's so many pages and tabs and options, it's really, really confusing. Now, it doesn't mean that you can't offer your products and services to your customers or sell them upsells or give them add ons, but it just means give it in steps. You don't have to give everything at once. Get them started first. Give them a choice of a few plans. Get them started on a plan, and once they're inside your business, then you can say, hey, two weeks in, how about this product? How about this upsell? Again, not confusing them, not overwhelming them. Step by step. One of the best ways to learn about how not to confuse your customers on your pricing pages is to watch this great YouTube show by ProfitWell. It's called Pricing Page Teardowns. This is on YouTube, it's absolutely free. And it's one of my favorite shows, actually, because they break down different popular pricing pages like on Spotify and Netflix and even small businesses to kind of give you an idea what works, what doesn't, what confuses buyers, what doesn't confuse buyers, what makes total sense. One of the things I, I really encourage you to do is an exercise. Ask yourself, is there any way somebody would be confused about what you offer, about your product, about your business name, your product name? For example, our webinar software, Webinar Ninja. If I am to do this exercise, I might ask myself, well, maybe people would be confused. They're not sure this is a software. Maybe they think it's a training, maybe they think it's a course or a firm that does their webinars for them. So knowing that, I need to make sure that on my homepage I clearly state, this is a software. So as soon as it land on my homepage on my website, they know this is a tool and not a service or not a training program. Even though we provide training, but our product is webinar software. So I might have a headline that says the best all in one webinar software. So immediately they know what it is. So think about your own brand name. Is there any potential for confusion? For example, the tool at Espresso, I know something about ads, right? But Espresso, what's that? Is it, you know, a firm that does ads about coffee? You're not really sure that's why? Adespresso has a tagline. It says ad Espresso. The easiest way to create Facebook ads or Google Ads or whatever it is, it clarifies right off the bat what this business is all about. If you're not a household name and you just have a name like Nike or Sony with no descriptor, it's hard for you to make it simple for your audience, for your customers to know what you do. So make it simple for them. Hit them with a tagline, with a headline describing what you do. The other thing that helps you when you simplify your message and simplify the way you present your product is that it gives the impression that your product, your service, is user friendly. From the get go, they feel like this is easy to use. Just navigating through the website, this is easy to understand. I can do this. It's encouraging for the customer. When people don't feel confused, they don't feel frankly, stupid. They don't feel like they don't get it. They get it totally. It's totally comprehendable. They understand, right? This is what's really important here. So make sure that you understand. The benefit is not just so they understand what you're all about, but also to feel encouraged to use your product or service. Because if your presentation, your website is any indication of what you offer, then it means I can do this. This is user friendly. This is especially important with educational products like courses like coaching. If people are confused about what you actually offer them when it comes to teaching, it's not a good indication of how good of a teacher you are. If you can explain your product clearly, then there's a pretty good chance you can explain the subject matter that you're supposed to be teaching them in the course, in the training clearly. So make sure you understand this is a role model, right? This is an example of, of what they're going to get when they consume your product or service. Here's the truth, guys. Business is hard. Getting customers is not easy. Earning revenue is a challenge. Being profitable is a challenge, right? Don't make it harder on yourself. A lot of us, we shoot ourselves in the foot and we make it so hard on ourselves because we confuse our customers. Make it easy. Simplify. Don't overwhelm. I know you got a lot to say. I know you got a lot to offer. But step by step, drip feed it to your customers. Don't give it all at once. A funny but good example to keep in mind is imagine an alien from outer space came and visited you and you had to explain to them how to play a particular card game or a board game. You would explain it step by step. You would start with the object of the game, then you'd go through the finer details, right? But you don't want to overwhelm your alien visitor, right? So you walk them by the hand and give them some examples. So when it comes to sales and marketing, you have to walk them by the hand, easy, step by step. What's the point of your product? Why would they be interested? What's the unique selling proposition? Once they are sold on that and they get that next thing, here are the key features. Next thing, this is how to get started. Choose this plan or this plan. Next thing, and now you're a customer. Great. Let's take things to the next level. We have a great training you could buy. Next thing, we have coaching. Next thing. See how it's just step by step. Instead of me throwing everything on the website, by the way, we do this, this, this, this, this, this. And they're confused about what you really offer and if it's. If it's a good fit for them. So be kind to your customers, don't confuse them, and you'll thank me for it. Thank you so much for listening to the $100 MBA show. One of the best ways to find out if you're confusing your customers or if your site, your pages, your messaging is clear, is to ask somebody who has no idea what you do, a friend, a family member, to look it over. Hey, look over my work. Even if they kind of know what you do, they're going to be a good person. They probably didn't pay attention fully about your business or your idea. So go ahead and share that with them. Share your website, and they'll tell you, I think I know what this website does or what your business does or what the product does. And they're going to give you some feedback. Just listen, take notes. Don't try to defend yourself or try to kind of justify why things are a certain way. Just listen, take notes. You may want to use the same language in your copy, so write things down. I hope that helps. And I hope to see you in Monday's episode. I'll see you then. Take care of.
