Hey O welcome to the $100MB Show. Daily Business Lessons Delivered straight to your ears every day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. And in today's episode you will learn how to work from home and stay sane. Many of us have transitioned to staying at home, working from home because of what's going on in the world these days. Yep, I'm talking about COVID 19. I'm in my third week of self isolation, but I am no stranger of working from home. I've been doing it for over eight years now. So I want to share with you some of the things that have worked for me. How to get your work done without losing your mind. A lot of us have a hard time working in the same place we are living, relaxing, sleeping, spending time with family. There could be a lot of distractions and there could be a lot of potential for, for us to go, you know, a little cuckoo. So I'm gonna give you my top tips on how to work from home while staying sane. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. In today's episode, we're gonna talk about how to keep your morale up, keep your motivation up, keep your mind sharp, and not so much about productivity skills or remote work. There are more episodes to come on those topics in future episodes, real soon. Today's all about how to make sure your mentality, your mindset and your mood is not ruined by working from home. The biggest challenge of working from home is that everything becomes one. You know, you're working from home, you're sleeping from home, you're eating from home, you're, you know, enjoying or relaxing from home, you're spending time with family. It can get monotonous if you don't do something about it, if you don't take action. And that's what today's episode's all about. So let me start with my first tip. Tip number one. You need to make sure that where you work is a totally cut off separate space in your home from everything else. Don't work everywhere in your house. Don't work from the living room and then the kitchen and then your bedroom. If you have a spare room, this is ideal to have an actual office with a door. Only do work in that room and do not do work outside of it. This will allow you to separate work life from home life. Space matters, environment matters. If you don't have a separate room, find one room in the house where you can cut off a corner and make it your little office. And only in that corner do you work. This is crucial. Trust me, I used to work from everywhere. It doesn't work. It allows you to really feel like you're working all day long, even if you're not working. If you're sitting in your living room watching tv, it feels like work because that's where you did work. You're in the office. All right, tip number two, other people, the people in your home, kids, spouses, significant others, roommates. You're not used to working with these people around. So you need to make it clear to everybody involved, your hours of work, when you cannot be disturbed, when you're taking lunch breaks, when you're taking breaks, so that you can say, hey, at those times, you can check in with me, ask me questions, I can check in with you. You gotta have routine, you gotta have structure or it's just gonna be haywire. Make it clear to the other people in your home when you're buckling down and getting to work. Tip number three, and this is huge exercise, you gotta take some time off during the day to exercise. Now, many of us, we can't go to the gym, of course, can't leave our homes. But hey, we can step outside in our front yards, backyards, balcony, something to get some fresh air and do some exercise. That could be doing some online yoga classes on your phone. Nicole and I have done those classes. We use a great class platform for yoga, pilates and meditation by the Merrymaker sisters. If you go to themarrymaker sisters.com, you can check out their courses online. I know Arnold Schwarzenegger has shared his no gym needed workout. We're talking about push ups, dips, things you could do at home with a bunch of Chairs and just the floor, some setups. You could just follow him on Instagram. He posted it on his Instagram thread. All the details to that workout. Exercise breaks it up, up. Some people like to do exercise before lunch. Some people like to do it at the end of their workday to kind of have some sort of buffer between work and life where they, you know, do their work till 5 o'. Clock. They do a bit of exercise, 5 to 5:30 and then they hit the shower. They feel fresh and it's like a reset. Now I'm going to enjoy life, I'm going to enjoy dinner, I'm going to catch something on Netflix, something like that. Next tip, don't do housework. This was a great tip from our head of marketing, Irena. Housework is easy to do when you're home. Some of us, we want to throw a load of laundry and then go back to work. And then from there we do the dishes and then go back to work. This blurs the lines and allows us to go a little cuckoo and doesn't really make us, you know, that productive and we don't know the difference in work and home and it can really get monotonous. The next tip, don't lose touch with the outside world. If you're working from home, make it a point to, to reconnect with people as much as possible. Your friends, your family, other people in business. Do a video call, get on a phone call, facetime, text message, whatever. Get connected with people. We need socialization as social creatures. We need to kind of connect with other human beings to feel healthy and sane. Sometimes we can forget to do this because we're in isolation, because we're at home. Don't. It's vital for you so you could feel good upstairs in the cabeza. Next, insert some breaks during your day, not just lunch. Have, you know, a 15 minute break after your first two hours. Drink a cup of tea outdoors, play a game on your phone, whatever. Take a break. Even if you did four breaks during the day, 15 minutes each, just to break things up so you can feel refreshed, it's time well spent because you're not spending any time commuting, getting ready for work, running errands outside of work, all that kind of stuff, so you're saving some time anyway. Let's make it efficient by having some breaks, you know, so you can feel refreshed. Next tip. This is from Noah Kagan, good friend, founder of Sumo group over@Sumer.com keep your routines up, whether it's exercise Whether it's your weekend, if you have date night every Friday night, keep it up. You don't have to go out, but you can order in. You can even do a double date virtually with some friends on a video. Call FaceTime. Next tip get dressed. This is a tip from Nicole, my co founder and partner in life, Dress for Success. A lot of us when we work from home, we think, hey, let's just rock up in our pajamas. Bad idea. By getting dressed, you feel like you're going to work. You're breaking off that idea that I'm at home. I can just, you know, wear anything. I start every day getting up in the morning, taking a shower, brushing my teeth, brushing my hair, wearing my clothes, even if it's just jeans and a T shirt. And I get ready and I go into my office ready for work as if I was going into an office outside of my home. And then, guess what? After I'm done with work, I change my clothes into my gym gear and I do my exercise at home. Then I go take a shower and then I dress in some home clothes just like I would get dressed when I come back from an office outside of my home. Keep that up.

Today, guys, I got one more big tip. When it comes to working from home and staying sane, there's a lot going on in the world. Things are changing very quickly. There's a lot happening in the media. It's very easy to get consumed with all this information. Whether it's watching the news on TV or looking at our news feeds on social media or checking out news sites on the web, it's very easy to be tapping into that on a regular basis all throughout the day. Do not do this to yourself. This is gonna make you feel overwhelmed. It's gonna make you feel helpless. I'm not saying to tune out the world. It's important to be updated, but you can be updated with 10 to 15 minutes a day checking out what's happening on your favorite news website, you know, during lunch or at the end of your day, and that's it. Nothing's going to change drastically. You can catch the next update tomorrow. Try your best to limit the overload of media that's going on. It's going to make you feel unproductive, is going to make you feel unable to fulfill a healthy day at work, at home. I've been saying this over and over since the start of all this. We need to all focus on what we can control. This is how we stop feeling helpless. We got to focus on what we can control. We can control the things I just listed today, how we spend our day, how we are being healthy and productive, working from home. What do we spend our attention on? All that stuff is in our control. Guys, I hope today's tips were helpful. Let's get through this together. I'm with you every single day here on the podcast to support you, I'm going to continue to record, continue to publish, continue to put out these episodes to help everyone that's listening. Because this is not going to last forever. We need to be strong and ready for when this all turns around. Thank you so much for listening. Over 1400 business lessons. The only way to get access to hit subscribe. So do that right now. And whatever you listen to, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Radio, Overcast, Himalaya are on every single app. Before I go, I want to leave you with this if you're at home, because you're not working from home, but maybe you lost your job, maybe they told you to go home. This is a very tough situation. It's not a happy situation, but we got to make the best of it. And I say that with sometimes when these things happen, it's an opportunity for you to reflect, to plan, to pause, to say, hey, maybe I can turn this situation to my advantage. Maybe it's an opportunity for me to start thinking about what I want out of life rather than what I'm willing to put up with. Maybe I didn't like my old job. What kind of job do I want? What kind of career do I want? Maybe I want to start something new, maybe a new business, a side hustle, a course. This is my chance to do it. Put the groundwork down. Because again, this is going to pass. But who's going to be ready when things get back to normal? Who's going to have something set up ready to go to hit the ground running? Whether it's a business or a website or a blog or a job opportunity, or they've skilled up, they've taken a course or a certification, or they learn something new, they learn how to code. And now they're more valuable to the marketplace, just like in the markets. When they go down, the best thinkers, the best doers invest in themselves. I hope that helps. And I hope to see you on tomorrow's episode. I'll check you, then take care. Of.
