Let me tell you about Intuit QuickBooks. When I was starting out my business, I remember sitting at my desk late at night not working on my business but cleaning up numbers, tracking and reconciling payments and wondering how this became my life. Hey oh. Welcome to the $100 MBA show. The business podcast that gives you what you need to build the business you want every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar MBA A a complete business training and community online. And in today's episode you will learn how to spend your weekend for a better week. This episode is for all of you full time entrepreneurs. If you're currently working and side hustling on the weekends to build your business, that's cool. But you need those weekends to build to get your business off the ground. But if you're spending the week 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 hours working on your business, your weekends are important. You need to recharge the batteries and you need to do the right things so that when you get back to work, you're recharged, refreshed and are able to get things done. In today's episode, I'm gonna give you my best tips to maximize your weekend. Even if that weekend is just one day. Some people are working six days a week as they start their business. How do you spend that time off? How do you make sure it's fruitful and sets you up for a successful week Ahead. That's what we get into in today's episode. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. If you're like me, you get to the end of the week and you are absolutely fried. You've given your business everything you got. But as entrepreneurs, sometimes we don't know how to relax. We don't know how to recharge the batteries, we don't know how to shut it off. So I'm going to give you my best tips, what I do to try to recharge so that I'm ready for the week ahead. Even if that's just one day off. These are my tips. The first one is very, very important. If you do just this one, it's gonna make a massive difference. And that's no screen time. Even if this is just one day on the weekend, I want you to minimize or totally cut off your screen time, especially laptop computer screen time. This should be a total. No, no. Now, when it comes to your phone or an iPad, I would also, as much as possible, stay off of it. Why? Because you're gonna see your email, your Slack messages. We want to make sure you detach. You got to step away from it so that you can actually recharge, so you can actually come back to work with a new perspective, rested and ready to go. And a big part of that rest is mental rest. You need to give your brain a chance to recuperate. You have to just shut off screens. Some of us are in the habit of looking at our phone as soon as we get up, and I'm guilty of this, but on the weekend, you want to make sure that you're not looking on your screens as much, much as possible. Limit it to even just like one hour in the whole day. If you could do that, it's gonna really help you. Number two, get in touch with nature. Nature is a great way to restart, to realign yourself, to recalibrate. This could be as simple as just taking a walk in your local neighborhood, in a park. No matter if it's hot or cold, raining, snow, bring an umbrella, nature, fresh air is going to really make a difference. It's going to allow you to have some peace. And this is really important because you need your subconscious mind to allow itself to relax and process information. Most of our problems get solved in our unconscious mind. And this is fact. Okay, when you step away from your problems, why do they say sleep on it? Because your unconscious mind is working away, solving problems. And then when you step away from it for a little Bit, you're allowed to come back. And when you think about it on your conscious mind, you're like, oh, I got all these solutions. All of a sudden. Some of the best decisions I've made in our business have been just through a walk, talking it out with Nicole, having a chance to just really get back to nature and allow my brain to process information. And nature is a great way to do that. So go for a walk, have a picnic, you know, go to the beach, go for a hike, even go for a drive with the windows down, if that help. Number three, spend some time with people that don't do what you do. Spend some time with non entrepreneurs for a moment, okay? Even if it's just a dinner or just a quick lunch or a coffee, this is gonna give you some perspective. This is gonna give you a chance to see how the world is without business. Okay? Reminding you, hey, things are gonna be okay. Reminding you that you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself not to be so hard on yourself. It just gives you a different fresh perspective. Okay? I mentioned before in the past that I like going on vacation with Nicole's brother, Francis, because he really allows me to get perspective because he's not an entrepreneur, he works at a job and he knows how to shut off and enjoy himself. And the same thing goes for spending some time on the weekend. Number four, spend some time doing things guilt free in business during the week. We're often trying to optimize every single minute. We're not wasting any time, we're being efficient and that's great. But when you're recharging, you can't put that pressure on yourself all the time. You got to let go for a moment, take your foot off the gas and allow yourself to have some guilt free pleasures like just maybe like shopping or browsing as you're walking through the streets, having an ice cream cone, right? Maybe it's just binge watching a show that you've been wanting to get into or finishing a video game you've been wanting to complete for some time. Allow yourself to have some indulgences and feel guilt free about it. One of the things I like about these types of activities is that they're immersive. They kind of take you in a different world. It's a little bit of an escapism, but it allows you to come back to reality refreshed. Back in the day, I used to do this with a card night with my friends. I used to play cards and the games used to be so intense and competitive, that all you thought about was the cards that night and you feel a sense of relief because, hey, I haven't thought about work for a good three, four hours straight. And I want you to do the same thing in your own ways. That could be art, that could be drawing, that could be going shopping, whatever it is, just lose yourself for a little bit and give yourself that pleasure. Another tip I recommend is do something new. And it could be something very simple. But having new experiences make you feel alive, make you feel you're doing something. And it could be something as simple as just going to a new restaurant, going for a drive through somewhere you never went to before. It could be trying a new sport or a new musical instrument. If you've never played miniature golf, go play miniature golf. You never done Go karting, Go co karting. One of the great resources out there is Groupon. Groupon gives you all these great discounts on things you probably never thought about doing before, but gives you a low cost, easy way for you to get into something fun and entertaining. So just think about it. Do something different. I know that when I do that on the weekend, I feel really recharged because it's just a new experience and I feel like I'm living a little bit. And it's not just work, work, work.

To wrap up today's lesson. When you're building a business, it's a high impact sport. You're working super hard, you have long hours, you have stress, you're making hundreds of decisions. You're managing people and deadlines and expectations and emotions. It's not easy. This is why it's so important to take advantage of your weekend and do the right things to recharge. I shared some of my favorite tips, but I want to share one, and that's spend some time reminding yourself why you're doing this, why you're building this business, why are you trying to build this empire. What are your aspirations? What are your dreams? I mean, let's get real. Maybe your dream is you want to buy a house and you want to be able to live a lifestyle that you've dreamed of and travel and be financially independent and support your family like you never did before. Have these discussions with your family, with your loved ones. Remind yourself why you're doing this and who you're doing it for, including yourself. It's a good reminder of the end goal. What am I trying to do here? And this helps you motivate yourself. So when you start the week, you're like, yes, I know why I'm doing this. I have the why. Let me go get it now. I'm the first person to say that building a business is hard. It gets harder as you go along, it gets more challenging, it gets more stressful, it gets tiring. And this is why periodical breaks is very, very important. Especially the longer you're doing entrepreneurship. The longer you've been doing it, the more breaks you're going to need. So if you can't take two days off for your weekend, do it, okay. You're going to benefit from it. If you have a solid 40, 50 hours during the week and have a great weekend, then go hard again the next week, you're going to be okay. This is a long journey, okay? Have a long term view. Understand that this is going to take some time. Pace yourself so you don't burn out. Thank you so much for listening and I'll check you in tomorrow's episode Q and A. Wednesday. I'll see you then.
Take care.
