Hey O. Welcome to the $1RMBA Show. Because your business means the world to you. That's why we deliver daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a company business training and community online and today's episode is a guest teacher episode. On our Guest Teacher episodes I bring on an expert to teach their area of expertise. Today we have Saksham Sharda who is the creative director of Outgrow Co and he'll be teaching you how to create demand and qualified leads using calculators and quizzes. You know what? Everybody's favorite subject is themselves. They want to learn more about themselves. That's why calculators and quizzes are so effective. They're a great way to generate great leads on your website and give actual valuable information that your visitor is looking for. Suction Chart is going to be teaching you today how to use those calculators and quizzes on your own website in your business and give you countless examples of how other businesses do this with their products. Whether they're selling a physical product, a service, a software, this works. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Today's guest teacher, Dr. Saksham Sharda is the creative director of Outgrow Co. He's a specialist when it comes to marketing, particularly in data collection. And this is what today's episode's all about. People want to learn more about themselves and how to get better, how to improve, how to take the next step forward. And this is where calculators and quizzes come to play. I know for sure that I've used calculators and quizzes on very popular websites like the New York Times, buzzfeed, even my local bank. Most of us, if they were looking to get some sort of financing or loan, you're going to use a calculator if you're applying for a job. A lot of job sites will have calcul for salary. Quizzes work perfectly to generate great leads because people want to know which direction, which information should they be seeking out to move forward. But how can you practically use these strategies in your own business? That's why we brought on Today's guest teacher, Dr. Saksham Sharda. I'm going to hand it over to him so he can teach you his lesson. But I'll be back to wrap up today's episode and give my takeaways. But for now, take it away, Saksham.
Hi, everyone. I'm Saksham Sharda. I'm the creative director at Outgrow Co and I'm here to talk about how you can generate demand and qualify leads using calculators and quizzes to begin with. Standing out online is really tough. Your customers are immune to ads and salesy landing pages. If you think they don't have ad blockers installed, you're probably still living in the 14th century. And to top it all, everyone online has the attention span of a goldfish, which is to say that they lose their interest in your content within 30 seconds. So obviously, no one has the time to read through long and boring ebooks or long and complicated website descriptions. So the point is, even if you do manage to attract people to your website, selling something to them is even tougher because there is so much information and so much competition. Your customers have so many things to choose from that if you have not positioned your website correctly, they end up with choice paralysis and buy nothing. So you need something that makes shopping fun, interactive, personalized, and helps your clients buy something in their own pace and in their own time. And that is where applets and widgets, quizzes and calculators come in. An applet or a widget is a simple interface that allows a user to perform a function, access a service or that just improves user flow in general. And on no code tools like Outgrow. Co, you can find more than a thousand such templates across 18 different industries that you can customize without the need for developers or coders. Now to give you just one example here, say on a lawyer's website, the primary call to action was just contact me. Now think about it from the perspective of a potential client. There are billions of lawyers out there with the same call to action, so how do you even go about picking one? Now imagine if the primary call to action was instead see how much I can save you in legal fees or which state should I incorporate my business in? Which link is providing more value? Which link is the customer more likely to click on? Similarly, say on a website for sunglasses, the primary filter is just sunglasses for men and sunglasses for women. Now, the customer is still left with a billion options to choose from in what seems like a never never ending laundry list of sunglasses. Now imagine if there was an E Commerce recommendation widget like which sunglasses suit your face the best, that asks questions like you know, what is your face shape, what is your skin tone, what is your hair color, how old are you, what are your favorite actors, and so on and so forth. And then recommends a bunch of sunglasses that suit you the best. And just before providing the recommendation there is a lead generation form so that even if the user doesn't end up buying the product, he still enters his email to see what product suits him the best. And this allows you to later follow up with the customer because you already know all the details about his preferences. To understand why this is helpful, imagine if you walk into a physical store in a shopping mall like a sunglasses shop of a famous brand like Prada or Gucci or something. In most cases there would be a shop assistant who is specialized in this field and is able to help you pick out glasses that suit you the best. Now in the real world, not all brands can afford a shop assistant like that, but in case you have a virtual store or an eshop, it costs you almost nothing to design such a recommendation widget on no code tools like Outgrow Co. Now this puts you at a huge advantage because now you can actually play at the same time huge level as huge and well established brands. In fact, the more creative you get, the better chance you have of providing a service that might be better than the ones these brands have online. Because usually when these brands make something the process is really complicated and it has to go through several departments. But in case you're running A medium or a small size business, it's really easy for you to make something over the weekend. So test it out the very next day on the week and you know, make it better and improve it and put a better version online. And the best thing is you can make these widgets and applets on Outgrow co directly on our website using drag and drop tools and without the need for any coders or developers. There are eight fundamental or basic types of widgets that you can either use independently or that you can combine with each other to make something more complex. These eight basic widgets are calculators, quizzes, tests, polls, recommendations, chatbots, forms, surveys and contests. Now it's a very simple PowerPoint like builder where you can edit anything just by clicking on it. And you can drag and drop pictures and gifs into the builder to customize it. Finally, you can also just embed these anywhere on your website. Emails, greet bars, pop ups, chatbots, or even side notes. So as you've already figured out, you can use interactive content to tightly target very particular sets of customers and also to target customers at every stage of the funnel. Now, in addition to this, there are several other benefits of using applets and widgets. They are more likely to go viral because they are providing value and are ideal for social media. A widget like which sunglasses suits your face the best, is not just selling your product. It's also providing targeted and personalized value. Applets and widgets can also be used to help guide your clients through complex intake procedures at their own pace and in their own time. Or to help them understand the value of your services by providing them with infographic data so you can see just so you can just show how much money they'll save over time by using your service. And they can also help to increase the time people spend on your site and give them a great user experience and user flow. Now you can also build these quizzes in the form of chatbots so that the experience that the user gets is much more conversational. So to give you an example of how popular interactive content is, did you know that in 2013 the most read article on the New York Times was actually a quiz? And not just the New York Times, even the BBC, CNN and a whole bunch of other websites use quizzes and tests to boost engagement and to collect marketing data. You must have heard of BBC's very viral weekly news quiz that people love taking. And did you know that 7 out of the 10 most read articles on Buzzfeed are actually quiz widgets? In fact, Quizizz are single handedly responsible for BuzzFeed's meteoric rise that we have seen in the past decade. Even Amazon regularly uses e commerce recommendations to boost their sales and Ikea has started using content that shows you how you can place a piece of furniture in your apartment so you basically see what it looks like before you actually make a purchase. And to put all of this in perspective, you have to keep in mind that These widgets are operational 24. 7 on your website and they are all the time collecting helpful data that you can constantly monitor to see how well your campaigns are performing. Each time the user answers a question, the lead gets more and more qualified. Now you you can monitor this data by geographies, devices, traffic sources, browsers. So you're able to see for instance, that people from a particular country are using the widget more. So you can personalize the widget for that particular country. Or if people are using your widget more on a phone, you can adapt it more for mobile usage. Or if people are being referred to your widget by a particular website, you can adapt this widget or future widgets to the demographic trends of that website. Now I'm going to wrap this up with a little explanation about why you need Applets and widgets in the Information Age the Information Age is the term given to the contemporary period of the 21st century that is characterized by the rapid shift from traditional industry to an economy based on information and technology. Now, in a commercialized society, the information industry can allow individuals to explore their personalized needs, therefore simplifying the procedure of making decisions for transactions and significantly lowering cost both for producers and buyers. So how do you adapt your company for this information age? It's simple. By showing customers how cost effective your products and services are and to what extent they can meet the customer's personal, individual and particular needs. And nothing does this better than applets and widgets that interact with the customer.

That's why we bring on these experts that know what they're doing. They have a solution for you. So you save time, you save energy, and of course save some money along the way. One of the things we learned about giving quizzes as a lead gen in our own business is sometimes it's good to use quizzes to filter out customers that are not a good fit. One of the worst things you can do is sell a product or a service to a customer that is not really meant to use this product or service. What will happen is they'll be disappointed and they'll want to get a refund, which will cause churn and this is just something you don't want to do in your business. So instead what you can do and, and what I've seen a lot of business do is that they have a quiz on their homepage to kind of find out, hey, are you a good fit for our product or service? And if the answers to their questions are negative, meaning that they're not a good fit, instead of saying, hey, here, buy us anyway or use us anyway and you kind of lead them or set them up for disappointment, you say, hey, it looks like we're not a good fit for you, but here are some other products or services we recommend that might be a better fit for you. And guess what? All those links to those other products or services are affiliate links. And you get commissions for actually guiding them to show them, hey, this is actually a better fit for you versus me. Some people do this on their homepage. Some people even do this in their exit interview when people cancel their subscription or they cancel their product or ask for a refund. Say, hey, it looks like you didn't like our product, our service. You might be interested in some of these other services. They may be a better fit for you. Again, affiliate links, pretty ninja. I love that idea because hey, if somebody's going to move to another service or they're not a good fit for you, they're fit for another company, you might as well benefit from that handover from that recommendation. Before I go, I want to leave you with this in order to serve your customers, you need to understand them. You need to understand their needs, their wants. You need to be a listener, really. And that's what quizzes and calculators can do for you. They can help you gain some information, collect some data about your potential customers so you can serve them properly. And you can automate this with tools like Outgrowth. So see this as listening rather than just feeding them all this information on your website. Hoping, hey, I hope this is what they need. Thanks so much for listening and I'll check you in tomorrow's episode. I'll see you then. Take care.
