I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the $100 MBA, a complete business training and community online. And in today's episode, you will learn how to get more backlinks to your site. Every business's website needs to be found on Google and other search engines. This is the primary way people are going to find you. They're going to search your keywords and look for your solution. If you come up on top, you will have an incredible competitive advantage. But how do you rank that high? Well, a lot of that has to do with backlinks. Essentially a backlink is when a website links to your website. They could link to a blog post, a page, a feature. This sends a signal to search engines like Google that your website is an authority and is worth ranking high. But how do you get other sites to link to your site? How do you get these backlinks? Well, that's what we get into in today's episode. This is not something that we can do overnight, but we can start the process today so that months from now we're reaping the benefits. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Search engine rank used to take a very long time, meaning if you did something to improve your rank or somebody linked to your site, those effects wouldn't really show. When you would search your keywords for days, even sometimes weeks now Especially in Google, results are pretty much instant. They're within 24 hours sometimes. And this is really motivating because if you start getting backlinks to your site today, every day, you're gonna start seeing improvements in your search engine optimization. But how do you do this without breaking rules, without being scammy, without being dishonest or doing things that will penalize you by Google? Many people, including myself, would recommend people that are starting out to just write great content for their blog and it will be shared because it's so wonderful. And that's a good strategy to have at the start, just to get the ball rolling, just to start getting content on your site, you some content. But at some point after you've gotten the ball rolling and you've had your website for some time, you're six months in or so, you gotta start optimizing those blog posts, those pages on your site, and making sure you have backlinks. You gotta start thinking about the marketing of your site. One of the fast and easy ways to get more backlinks to your site today instantly is, is to search for your competitors. Where are they mentioned on other websites other than their own? Whether it's a list post or review or a recommendation, where are they mentioned? You can do this with tools like Ahrefs if you want, or you can simply just search on Google and take each competitor one by one and see where they're landing on other websites. You can then reach out to these websites and say, hey, can you include my product, my website, my blog post? Some websites will just update it and link to you, but most won't do it without something in exchange. They want it to be, you know, mutually beneficial. Now, link exchanges are a big no no. You should never say, hey, I want to get a backlink on your website, so I'll backlink to you on my website. Google will find out. They're very, very smart. Their algorithm is very smart and will penalize you for this. But there are other ways to make it mutually beneficial. If you have a large social media following, or even just a moderate one, you could say, hey, I'd love to share this three times with my social network and show them how we're mentioned in the post, and it'll give them a little boost. This is actually quite effective because sometimes these blog posts are a little bit older. They're not like the latest news. They're like a couple months old, maybe a year old or more. And the blog wouldn't mind to get a surge of traffic from your audience. Now, obviously this is going to be a good fit because this blog post, this article that you're going to be posting that has your mention and your link is relevant to your audience. It's information that they're going to want to know. You can offer a mention in your newsletter or doing a webinar with them, or having a guest on your podcast. Of course, you got to make sure that you're doing this with integrity, that they're actually a good fit for your podcast or your YouTube channel or whatever it is, and they meet your qualifications anyway. But that's a quick and easy way to go through all these websites that are mentioning your competitors. Why don't they mention you as well in exchange for some promotion to that page? Another way to get a backlink on somebody else's website is to become a speaker or a guest on their media. This could be on their podcast, this could be on their, you know, video channel. You can even write a guest post. The point here is you're featured on their podcast. For example, they're gonna have a blog post with the show notes and they're gonna link back to your website or link back a blog post you mentioned on the interview. This is just only natural and standard and it's a good way for you to give them value for their audience and get a backlink. This takes a lot of time and work because again, you're making time to do these interviews, but it's well worth it. I've been doing this for eight years, doing interview after interview. I do at least three or four interviews a week. And it's just a slow process of making sure that we have backlinks that are active, that are new, and that we're giving great value to our marketplace. Another way to get great backlinks is literally to buy it. Now, I'm not saying just straight up offer them money. You don't want to do that. But to sponsor something. Become a sponsor of their podcast, become a sponsor of their next event, become a sponsor of their online summit. We've done this several times, and this is actually low hanging fruit. Some of these websites that run conferences and big podcasts, they have incredible amount of traffic, they have incredible amount of rank. A backlink from their website can signal a lot of authority to yours. But the number one kind of backlink you want are from high authority sites. The number one driver for your rank will be from these sites. For example, backlinks from Forbes and Entrepreneur. Com, Huffington Post, Fast Company. These types of brands, these types of publications, they hold a lot of credibility. If you're mentioned and backlinked on an article on that site, it's gonna help your brand big time. It's not the holy grail. It's not like it's going to help you forever if you have one mention. But a consistent mention in a few of these publications throughout the year will really allow you to get that SEO juice you're looking for. And those backlinks are really powerful. But it's very hard to get a backlink on one of these publications if you don't have something newsworthy, if you don't have something that's worth talking about. You gotta be part of the media to be a part of that conversation. Most of the biggest backlinks we get from apple.com and shopify and Inc and Entrepreneur come from our podcast. We're a part of the media because we have a media quote unquote company. We have consistent media being produced and this is our podcast for you. It might be a YouTube channel. Point here is, is that if you're part of the media, you're going to be mentioned. They're looking for great media, great content. They're going to Write the top 10 business podcasts for small businesses. They're going to Write the best YouTube channel for fitness instructors and they're looking for resources. So if you are out there and you have a piece of content that's being produced on some platform, whether it's podcasting or video or blog, you will be mentioned. But you gotta be around for a long time. You can't just think this is going to happen because you had a podcast for two weeks. We've been running this podcast over six years and worked very hard to be consistent so that we can continue to get mentioned. So having a cornerstone piece of content that is produced regularly will signal to these big publications, hey, this business, this company has something going here. Gas, snacks, tolls. This trip is draining my wallet.

To wrap up today's lesson, no one builds a successful website in business alone. You need to work with other people. You need to work with other people in your marketplace, with tastemakers, with thought leaders. This is why I highly recommend you follow people on Twitter on social that write for big publications like Forbes and Inc. And Fast Company and see what they're publishing on a regular basis. Comment on their blogs or comment on their articles. Maybe even start a conversation about maybe some information you can provide to them, some insights that you've learned in your business and that might turn into an article itself. Thank you so much for listening to today's episode. I hope it was helpful. If it was, I want to hear about it in an itunes rating and review. Leave us an itunes rating and review and you enter our weekly random draw we call Freeride Friday. Every Friday we give away a lifetime membership to one of our programs. Just leave us an itunes or rating and review and listen in on Friday to see if you want that simple. Before I go, I want to leave you with this. One of the things I learned in my over a decade of experience in business is real long term success takes long term efforts. It just takes a lot of just chipping away, doing things over and over, consistency and sticking to it. It's not fun or sexy or you know, something that we want to hear, but it's what works. Very similar to working out, very similar to eating right or learning any skill like learning the piano. Consistency is key. Thank you so much for listening and I'll check you in tomorrow's episode Q and A Wednesday. I'll see you then. Take. Gas, snacks, tolls. This trip is draining my wallet.
