MBA1605 Q&A Wednesday: Is a Tony Robbins training a good business investment?
2 Feb 2026 · 12 min
This is a Q&A-format podcast episode (host Omar Zenhom) answering a listener (Larry) who asks whether attending Tony Robbins' Unleash the Power Within is a good business investment. Omar, familiar with Robbins' work, recommends doing preparatory homework (read Awaken the Giant Within and Unlimited Power; watch the Netflix documentary I Am Not Your Guru) before committing. He argues the training likely has net positive effects—improved goal setting, self-evaluation, leadership, and renewed energy—but stresses evaluating opportunity cost and personal/business budget (notes the online version during COVID is more affordable; estimates the cost could be around several hundred dollars and cites a hypothetical $600–700 range). The transcript includes multiple sponsor segments (Intuit QuickBooks, Dell Tech Day, Comcast Business, Tommy John, Fidelity) and closing calls-to-action (subscribe, archives).

If you have a question you want to ask, just email me over at Omar MBA net and today's question is Larry and Larry asks, is attending a Tony Robbins training a good investment for my business? Larry says, I've been interested in taking Tony Robbins Unleash the Power within program which is normally a four day in person program and quite expensive, but he's doing it online these days because of COVID and it's a whole lot more affordable now. Will a training like this be a good investment for me as the founder of my business? Will it help my business grow or.
Should I use my money elsewhere?
Thanks so much for answering my question on Q and A Wednesday. Love the podcast Larry. Thanks Larry for the awesome question. And this is a very very important one. The question of if I take A training that helps me improve as a person, as a thinker, as a decision maker, as a leader. Will it help my business? A lot of people find Tony Robbins training, especially unleash the power within, to be personal development and not professional or business development. But in entreprene, isn't the line kind of blurred? Well, we explore that in today's episode. Help Larry out with this decision and help you if you come across the same situation along the way. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. So Larry asks, should I attend Tony Robbins training? Is it a good investment for my business if I attend? Now, I first want to address specifically Tony Robbins training, because this is what Larry's asking. And then I'll talk more general about any kind of training that kind of is self improvement and improves you as a person, as a leader of your company. First of all, I have been familiar with Tony Robbins work for some time. I've read all his books. I actually had his CDs that he sold called Personal Power. I used to listen to them in my car back in the early 2000s. I've gained and learned a lot from his teachings. Having said that, I'm a big believer that you can learn from anybody and you don't have to agree with everything somebody says in order for you to learn something from them. I'm a big believer that you should take what is beneficial and you can just leave the things you don't really think will work for you. I'm not a believer in all or nothing. Like you either take everything or you leave everything. As an entrepreneur, you're going to have to be a critical thinker. You have to be able to take advantage of great information and make sure it benefits you in some way. So there's a lot about Tony Robbins that I find to be useful, helpful. I think he offers a lot of value to a lot of people. I don't agree with everything he says. Just like if he met me, he wouldn't agree with everything I say. And that's cool, that's normal, and I can still respect his work and benefit from it. Having said that, I'm pretty confident that if you were to attend Tony Robbins training, unleash the power within, the positives will outweigh any kind of negatives that you might perceive. And I don't even want to say negatives because you might find everything he says is great and everything that he teaches is wonderful and works perfectly for your personality and your lifestyle. But I would recommend you take a few steps before you sign up to a program like this. If you haven't read all of his books, you should especially Awaken the Giant within and Unlimited Power. These are two books that you could read and you could buy them on Kindle. It was going to cost you like $10 each, maybe less depending on the current price. And you're going to get a lot out of those books probably I would say 30% to 40% of what you would get from, from the actual live training. I'm not saying that the training is worthless. I'm not saying that that's even a lot of in terms of percentage, but it's, it's some percentage for $20. So it's not bad. I would also check out his Netflix special, I'm not yout Guru on Netflix. It'll give you an understanding of the environment of his live trainings, his teaching style, some of the things that he tries to help people with. It's kind of a preview of what kind of teacher he is. And if that works for you, awesome. It gives you more confirmation that this program might help you. But if you haven't read the books or even watched the documentary, I would highly recommend you do that first before you commit to any kind of program. Now if you do sign up for his online program that is usually live, which is awesome that he's doing that now, there's a very good chance it's going to impact you and a positive way it's going to improve your skills. Even as a personal level, you're going to have more gratitude. You're going to understand how to self evaluate. You'll learn how to set goals and achieve them. And these are things that are great helpers, building blocks. As an entrepreneur, as a business owner, it's only going to help you. It's not going to hurt you. It may not be perceived as a direct investment into your business, but it's definitely going to help you as a person and therefore help you as a leader of the company. Now having said that, I did notice in your question you said or should I spend my money somewhere else? Which is a great, great statement because it means that you recognize there's an opportunity cost here, that if I spend my money on this program, then that means I can't spend that money somewhere else that could benefit my company. So it's not a bad idea to spend an hour or two to explore. Where would you spend that money in the business? Whether is it marketing dollars? Are you going to make a temporary time higher? Are you going to use it to buy a piece of software. What are you going to do with that money that's going to make the impact on your business? How much impact will it be and will it be more, less than the impact you perceive that going through this training is going to have on your business because of the impact it has on you. That's how you can really evaluate the opportunity costs. But if your budget is not super tight and if you lost the six or seven hundred dollars, I'm not sure exactly how much it's going to cost you to go to this event or be there online. If you parted ways with that kind of cash and it wouldn't really hurt your business or hurt you personally, then I would go for it. I think that you would benefit from it. It's not going to be a catastrophe for your business if you spent that money on there if you're in that financial situation. If not, you do need to look at the opportunity cost. But if it's not going to hurt you financially too much, I think it's definitely going to help you in a big way and at the very least it's going to immerse you in a different environment. Because I know he's all about immersion and that for those few days you're really going to step out of what you're doing on the day to day and you're going to come back to your business feeling like refreshed, recharged, energetic, and really maybe have a new perspective on how to tackle your challenges.

To wrap up today's Q and A Wednesday's question from Larry asking about should he attend the Tony Robbins training? Will it help his business? As I mentioned, there's a few things you can do beforehand before you make this decision. Read the books. Watch the documentary I talked about, I'm not yout Guru. To get a sense of what kind of teacher he is, evaluate your opportunity costs and then ask yourself, is this a make or break expense? If it is, don't spend the money. If it isn't, and you've done the other things I just mentioned, then I do believe it will be beneficial to you and can help you in the long run. Every time I spend money on any kind of training, any kind of conference, any kind of self improvement, more times than not, it's been the right choice. I probably say 90% of the time I I didn't regret it and felt like it really was a good experience and has helped me. But 10% of the time I did regret it and I feel like I could have avoided those times if I did a little bit of homework, if I did a few steps beforehand to find out if this is really going to help me, find out if there's any, you know, lower barriers of entry. Meaning like maybe a book, maybe a small course I can take just to see, you know, to mitigate the risk, to see if this is a good fit for me or it's going to help me before I make a big investment. And that's why I gave today's advice. Thank you so much for listening and I'll see you in tomorrow's episode. I'll see you then. Take care. Of. Hey Fidelity. How can I remember to invest every.
