MBA1659 The 1 x 3 Focus Challenge
2 Feb 2026 · 10 min
This is an episode of The $100 MBA (host Omar Zenhom) teaching the "One by Three Focus Challenge," a 30-day practical exercise (inspired by Clay Collins of LeadPages) that asks business owners to focus on exactly three things: one single opt-in (a single, easy-to-consume lead magnet placed everywhere), one product (one offering to sell), and one marketing channel (one traffic source such as paid ads, podcast, blog/SEO, or YouTube). After focusing on these three elements, the episode recommends assembling them into a simple funnel: drive traffic (chosen channel) to the opt-in, capture email, nurture via email, then lead to the product (e.g., workshop/webinar → sale). The episode is interleaved with multiple commercial ad reads (Intuit QuickBooks, Dell Tech Day, Fidelity, Tommy John, Marie Callender's) and ends with a recap, subscribe prompt, and the acronym FOCUS (Follow One Course Until Success).

Hey. Oh. Welcome to the $100 RMBA Show. Because your business means the world to you. That's why we deliver daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. And in today's episode you will learn or you will take the one by three Focus Challenge. What's the One by three Focus Challenge? Well, this is something I learned from Clay Collins, who's the founder of LeadPages. This is a challenge to have you focus on three important aspects in your business in your website to get a result. Many times we are scattered. We're trying so many different things. We don't know what's working and what's not. And because we're spread so thin, our results will mirror that thin results. Right? So I want to challenge you for the next month to finish out the year strong to take on this challenge. I'll explain to you. What are you you going to be focusing on? There are three things you're going to be focusing on step by step and it's going to allow you to hone in your results. More sales, more customers. Who doesn't want that? So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. So I want to invite you to take the One by three Focus Challenge, something I learned from Clay Collins, the founder of LeadPages. If you're not familiar with LeadPages, they're a giant. Basically, they started this movement of gathering leads through landing pages and they created one of the biggest landing page SaaS companies in the world. LeadPages was so successful, it got bought out by Drip. But this teaching is the foundation of how leadpages really was successful. And I want you to really take on this challenge. So what's this one by three think? Well, there's three things that you're going to focus on in the next month, and this is all you're going to focus on. I know that you want to do other things, but. But I want you to resist the urge to spread yourself thin. So the first thing you want to focus on in the One by three challenge is one single opt in. One single thing you're going to give your website visitor in exchange for their name and email address. Why is this important? Many of us, we have 3, 4, 5, 10 opt ins. I used to have so many on our website, the $100 MBA. And what I learned in this experience is that at the end of the day, with look at all the opt ins I had. I had about seven. At one point there was one opt in that was getting 80% of all my subscribers. And the rest there were just bloating the site. They were really confusing the visitor. All you really need is one opt in, one killer opt in that solves a problem for your potential customer. You want to choose an opt in that's easy to consume, so when they sign up, they get the value quickly. So create an amazing opt in and just make it one opt in on your site and put it everywhere. You can put that opt in on your homepage, in your blog posts, on the sidebar of your blog, in your popups, wherever. The point here is you're going to focus on one opt in, one tool, one giveaway that's going to allow people to join your email list. The second thing you're going to focus on in the One by three challenge is one product. You're gonna sell only one product. Okay? This is especially important if you're getting started. Okay? If you're an established business and you have two, three, four products, that's fine. But for the sake of this challenge, we're gonna really try to work on one product right now, even if you're an established business with other products. We're gonna try to drive sales to that product. If you're brand new, if you're starting your business and you're thinking, oh, I can have this product and this product and several tiers and this package and this consulting thing, all good ideas. But right now we're just going to sell one product, okay? And this is really important because when you focus on one thing, you get results, right? Once you get results with one and you have that machine running and you have a system that we're going to talk about in a moment, then you can move on to the next product. You can do another one by three challenge next month. Okay? But the point here is, is that we want to focus on one product, one offering. What is the one thing that you can point to and tell your customers that will help you? This will get you results. I can put my name behind it. I can look you in the eye and say, if you buy this, if you get this, you won't be sorry. Okay, so this is what we want to do here. One product. So one opt in, one product. And then lastly, you want to choose one marketing channel. Let me define what I mean by marketing channel. Where are you going to get your customers? Not where you're going to sell them. A lot of people get confused. Well, I'm going to sell them via email. No, I'm going to sell them on a webinar. No, this is not what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about is where are you going to get these customers to go to your website to opt in to buy your product? How are you going to attract them? Okay, so choose one marketing channel for you. It might be paid ads. It might be. I'm gonna run some Facebook ads to get people to my website for other people. It might be. I'll run a podcast. I'll grow a podcast. And through the podcast, I'll grow my audience. Another marketing channel might be having a killer blog, which kills it on SEO. And, and this is like Brian Dean's strategy. He publishes a blog post every six to eight weeks, and it's an epic blog post. But when he drops that blog post, it drives crazy traffic. You might love video and you start a YouTube channel. Okay, where are you going to get traffic? One traffic source. So one opt in, one product, one traffic source. Okay, so what comes next after we focus on one opt in one product and one marketing source? Well, we're going to put it all together. Okay. And this is kind of a bonus thing I'm going to give you. Okay. And you're basically going to take these three components and create a funnel. Okay? A funnel is basically you're holding somebody by the hand and saying step by step, this is where I want you to go so you can get a result. So it's basically going to go marketing channel. So you're going to invite them to your website on your marketing channel. Whether it's a Facebook ad, whether it's on YouTube, a podcast or a blog, you're going to invite them to go to your opt in. Okay? And on their opt in they're going to sign up and then once they're on their email list, you're going to nurture them, you're going to give them emails and then you're going to lead them to your product. And that could be a workshop, a live webinar where then you take that workshop and show them, hey, you want to take this to the next level? Buy my product. And that's where you sell your product. That one product we focused on, doesn't that feel good? Doesn't that feel simple and easy to do? And you could pull this off in a month. You'll be amazed at how much you can get done, how many sales you can get. When you just focus on three little things and put it all together.

To wrap up today's lesson. To recap today's lesson, we're going to do the one by three challenge in the next 30 days. What you're going to do is focus on one opt in one killer thing that people want to give up their email address and give you access to their inbox to get. This is what I want. This is what's my biggest pain point, the thing I need help with the most. Give them that one opt in. Number two, one product focused on one thing that if they bought it, they would get incredible results. Even if it's expensive, even if it's a high priced product, that's okay as long as you're just focusing on one product. Number three, one form of traffic, one marketing source, one marketing channel. Whether you start a blog, whether it's a podcast, whether it's a YouTube channel, whether you're doing paid ads where you're gonna get these people to come check out your site, put it all together into a funnel and you have it going on for the next month. You have your work cut out for you. Roll up your sleeves, get going. Take down some notes. Write down the steps you have to take right now to put this into action and make it happen. Then take those notes, take those to do's and plug it into your calendar so you know what you're gonna do when. Thanks so much for listening to the $100 MBA show.
