Omar Zenhom explains how to audit your business priorities: hire a short-term expert for one department (like SEO) for 3-4 hours, typically $500-$600. Ask for three deliverables: what you're doing right, what's wrong, and the top three high-impact actions to fix it.

Hey O. Welcome to the Hundred Doll RMBA show. Because a better business begins with you getting better every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of Webinar Ninja, a self funded software company I started with my partner back in 2014 and in today's episode you will learn how to verify you're doing the right things in your business. Many times in our business we just go, go, go implement, try things, test, experiment and a few months, even a few years later, we look back and ourselves Are we doing the right things? Are we doing the right marketing initiatives? Do we understand our avatar?
Is our pricing?
Okay? Is our customer service up to the standard of the industry? Do we need to hire? Do we need more employees? More team members? Or do we have too many employees? Are we spending our money in the right ways? These are questions I'm sure you've had in your head doubts, but you've been too busy to verify them. In today's episode, I'm going to show you how how you can verify if you're doing the right things in the different aspects in your business. Whether it's team culture, sales, marketing, you name it. I'll also show you how to do it without getting overwhelmed. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business.

I want to start today's episode by stating that if you've been too busy doing and implementing and trying things, that you haven't had the chance to sit back and verify if these are the right things to work on or if they can be improved, that's not necessarily a horrible thing. Don't beat yourself up. It means you're trying, you're doing, you're taking action. And that's what entrepreneurs do. That's what hungry business owners tend to do. But as your business matures, every move you make has a lot of weight, has a lot of consequences. So you want to make sure you're focusing your time and energy and resources with the right things. Right now, you're either doing things yourself or people in your team are implementing the things you need to implement in your business. You have a routine, you have a structure. You might even have some targets and goals you're going after and maybe some standard operating procedures to get to those goals. But you have that little voice in the back of your head asking, is this the right thing to be working on? Am I doing this right? Am I implementing this right? Can I be doing this better? Well, today I want to show you how you can answer that little voice. You're going to start with one department in your business, not everything. And then even in that department, you're going to really get specific. So, for example, you have a lot of things that you can improve in your business or you can verify. But let's just start with something like let's say marketing. And specifically, let's say you want to make sure your search engine optimization is all right, that you're doing the right things on page and off page, that you're getting the organic traffic you're looking for. You think you're doing the right things and you've been plowing away for the last few years, but you want to verify. And my personal advice from experience is the best way to verify is, is to get a third party expert. Now, you don't have to hire this person full time. They could just come in and maybe contract for a couple hours. And basically what they're doing is they're going to audit, they're going to audit what you're doing in that specific area. And in this example, SEO, you want to find somebody that is expensive, that is experience. In this case with SEO, maybe even somebody that worked at Google before or has worked on big time sites with authority. You may just hire them for a few hours, maybe three or four hours. It may cost you 500, $600 for this aud, but it's gonna be well worth it because they're gonna give you golden information. Whether that gold information is, hey, you are moving in the wrong direction. You need to do XYZ or you're doing things great, keep doing it. Both have extreme value and are well worth the five or $600 you'll be spending on an expert. I always like to bring somebody on that has never worked with me before, has never worked in my company, or understands what I'm doing. And they can look at it with fresh eyes, they can look at it objectively. Some fresh suggestions. I like to find these experts on, you know, freelancing sites like Upwork, Freelancer.com, and even Fiverr now are starting to feature some really experienced and professional freelancers. And they're not cheap, but it's well worth it. Now don't go into this audit with no plan. This is an easy way to waste your money. There are three questions you need this expert to answer. This is what you ask the expert. This is basically the job description. The first question is, what are all the things we're doing right? Second one, you guessed it, all the things we're doing wrong. And the third is, what are the top three things that we should work on that will make the most impact? This is huge. Okay, why? Because you want to know. One, what are you doing right? What are all the things you need to continue to do to get the results you're currently having? Number two, what are you doing wrong? What are some things that we got to stop doing or change? Things that we're totally out of sight, out of mind, things that we haven't seen. And then third, you got to move the needle quickly. You got to kind of take the first steps. What are the things I need to do immediately to make the most impact? You want to see a turnaround, you want to see an improvement, and you want to, you know, basically get a return on your investment from this expert. So make sure you get answers to all three of these questions when you're being audited. Now, you might be asking, omar, I love this, but how do I choose what part of my business to get an expert to verify, to give me advice on. Well, that's an easy one. Which part of the business? What aspect of the business is keeping you up at night? What are the things that make you worry that really have you thinking when you should be relaxing? Those are the things you really need to focus on. Whether it's bringing in revenue or customers or marketing or your reputation or reviews online or pr, whatever it is, you know your business best. And you know what are some of the things you're worried about that may be a problem in the future. What's great about this exercise is it puts you at ease. It cures those worries and pains and allows you to know what to work on next and not feel overwhelmed. Once you get an expert to take a look at one part of your business, you can move on to the next. Do not try to do things all at once. Why? Because that's a recipe for overwhelm. And also, if you don't do things one at a time, you don't know what things are making the most impact.

Being an entrepreneur is not easy. You have to wear many hats, and sometimes it feels like you have to be an expert at everything, but in reality, you don't. You need to be able to do a lot of things, but you don't have to be an expert. You can bring on experts to give their area of expertise, and it's a lot easier for an expert to see what you already are doing instead of when you haven't tried anything at all. It's a lot cheaper. It's a lot more efficient for your business to have somebody look at your work after you've done it. By the way, this is also applicable to all kinds of business needs or areas. Whether you need a lawyer to look over a document or an accountant to look at your finances, looking at something that exists is a whole lot easier for a professional than just starting from scratch. So try experiment. Go out there, give it your best shot, then get an expert to take a look at it. Thanks so much for listening to the $100 MBA show. There's nothing wrong with hiring a part time consultant. This is a good way to have somebody that you can email and work with from time to time. You don't need to hire somebody full time or part time or even have them on retainer. Keep expenses low and keep your relationship with this person on the up and up so that way you can continue to tap into that. Well, tap into that expertise. Thanks so much for listening and I'll check you in tomorrow's episode Q and A Wednesday. I'll see you then. Take care.
