Hey oh. Welcome to the $100 MBA Show. Because your business is not going to build itself. That's why we deliver daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of Webinar Ninja, an independent software company I started with my partner back in 2014. And in today's lesson you will learn how to upgrade your blog to a money making machine. Many of us are looking for different streams of income ways to supplement the revenue we're making with our core business. We use our blog for content marketing to bring in customers via SEO. But there are some tweaks you can make to your blog to make some serious cash while still maintaining the SEO benefits of your blog posts. These are some very simple things you can implement. Some of these you're going to implement right away. Some of these you might just say, you know what? Not for me, but my job is to give you the options. Even if you just implement one of these strategies, it can increase your overall revenue and help grow your business more quickly. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Hey Fidelity, what's it cost to invest with the Fidelity app? Start with as little as $1 with no account fees or trade commissions on US stocks and ETFs. Hmm, that's music to my ears. I can only talk.
Investing involves risk, including risk of loss. Zero Account fees apply to retail brokerage accounts only. Sell order assessment fee not included. A limited number of ETFs are subject to a transaction based service fee of $100. See full list of Fidelity.com commissions Fidelity Brokerage Services LLC Member NYSE SIPC.
All right, let's Jump right into it and start with strategy number one to upgrade your blog and blog posts to make more money. So when I say blog or your blog, there's really two major pages on your blog. It's the main blog page where you see all the posts or your latest posts. And then there is the actual blog post page, the page that you actually read each of the blog posts. We're going to optimize each of these pages in a different way. Let's start with your main blog page or your blog homepage where it has all the blog posted listed. Most people's blogs just says, you know, my blog up on top and just has the latest post on a grid. That header section before anybody has to scroll is prime real estate. Okay, you need to utilize that because people that frequent your blog, they're interested in what you have to offer. So on that page up top, I recommend you do either of two things. One, you create an opt in form to have them enter a sales funnel or a sales sequence. For example, you ask them to opt in in exchange to get your quick guide or your cheat sheet or something that they can get a quick win for. They leave their email address in the box, they hit send and they get an automated email. Now what you can do on your end in your email marketing service is automatically invite them to your next live webinar where you can sell them your product or service or you can have an automated email sequence doing that for you. The point here is, is that you're capitalizing on the fact they're on the blog and you're giving them an easy win with some great value, but you're having them enter the buying journey. That's kind of the easiest, the lightest form of money making that you can do on that page. The second option is a straight up make a low cost offer. A lot of people will advertise, quote unquote, or have a call to action to buy a low cost item like their book, that's like 20 or 30 bucks. A live course or challenge they're doing, that's less than $100. And yes, not everybody who lands on that page is going to buy, but a percentage of people will buy because they see it and they're interested in what you have. So you're capitalizing on this great real estate. See it like in the physical world, it's like having a cafe on a busy thoroughfare kind of street in your town, like Main Street. Not everybody's gonna stop by for coffee, but people that do see you and Say, hey, how about a co they're going to buy. Next, let's look at your actual blog posts. You should be writing content that is on topic with your offerings. So say for example, one of your products is a full course on how to get started on snowboarding. This is what you're trying to sell your customer eventually. But you have a blog post that talks about should you rent a snowboard when you go snowboarding for the first time, or should you buy. Now, many people, they will have a sidebar on their blog and they'll advertise their products and services there. I personally don't think that's the best place to put it. I actually think it's better to put it within the blog and have no sidebar. So they'll read text and then there'll be a little box between paragraphs that talks about one of the things you're selling. As long as it's congruent with the blog post, it'll make total sense. And by the way, this is your blog. You can put whatever you want, especially your own products. So say for example, I'm reading this blog post and it's, you know, walking me through the options of renting versus buying my first snowboard on my first trip. And then as I scroll down, I see a little box that says, hey, looks like you are a beginner snowboarder. How about signing up for our beginners snowboarders course? And there's a button there. They click and they can go to the sales page. This is perfect timing. There are so many blogs out there that put third party ads on their blog. This is super relevant. Your readers won't mind. Another strategy you can do is instead of advertising your own products, you can advertise products with an affiliate link and you get an affiliate commission. Commission. As long as these products are aligned with the content, it's totally fine. It makes total sense. For example, if you're saying, hey, you should buy your snowboard, here are my favorite snowboards on Amazon. And you have a picture of the snowboard. Buy it here and you can put a little line there that says, hey, I will get an affiliate commission if you buy it through my affiliate link. It's no more expensive for you. It just helps support our blog and our content. And you're helping the reader by curating the right information and giving them direct links to where they can make the next step and buy the snowboard. These don't have to be physical products. They could be, you know, digital products. Digital books that you're affiliate of like through Amazon or you might think yoga is good for snowboarding and you can use your affiliate link for a yoga program that's out there again embedded throughout the post in these little beautiful boxes. If you want to look at an example of what I'm talking about here, go to moneylab.co friend of the show Matt Giovanici is the founder of MoneyLab and he does this beautifully in his blog. Fun fact about Matt, he actually wrote the song, the theme song of the $100 NBA show. A quick side note about affiliate links. There are people that build their whole blog based on affiliate commission because it's so lucrative. For example, there's blogs out there that will you to build your own website and throughout that blog post they have affiliate links on hosting and templates and design services and all that kind of stuff. And every time somebody clicks and buys through those affiliate links, they get a kickback. Now the beauty of all these techniques I'm sharing with you is that your blog is evergreen. It's working for you 24 7. You write the blog post once and it serves you for the rest of eternity. But if you are going to be using affiliate links, I do recommend you have to audit your blog at least once a quarter because these links sometimes will change and you need to update them and make sure they're all going to the right place. Another easy way to make money on your blog is people love reading your blog posts and they want to get into your mind, they want to pick your brain. Why don't you charge them for it? I've seen great coaches where at the end of the blog post they say, hey, if you want to ask me some questions about this topic, you want to see if it's the right fit for your business to implement this strategy, why don't you book a 30 minute session with me and they charge for that 30 minute session. They simply just, you know, hyperlink to their meeting calendar or like calendly or book like a boss and charge for that session. Nice and simple. You also get a chance to learn about the needs and the pains of your audience through these coaching sessions. And in the process you get paid for your time.
We've all been there. You hold on to a coupon but forget about it and suddenly it's Expired. Expired in 2012. Dang it. Fortunately, by switching to Geico, you could save about $900 on car insurance without ever touching a coupon.
It feels good to save big. It feels good to geico. To wrap up today's Lesson I want to give you a couple more tips when it comes to upgrading your blog to make more money. Create a resources page on your website. A resources page is a list of of products that you recommend to help your audience. And of course, they are affiliate links. This is an easy and fast way for you to tell your audience, hey, I'm going to save you a bunch of time and headaches in choosing the right products and services to serve you. I've handpicked them. Here you go. Now we have a resources page at the $100 MBA over at 1000mba.net resources. But for us, these are actually not affiliate links. They're actually sponsors of the podcast. And we only have sponsors on the show that we feel are a good fit for our audience and that we recommend. So we like to share those resources because often they pass on some savings and some coupons that we want our audience to gain and to benefit from. So you could do it both ways, but both generate income at the end of the day. Next tip. If you're launching any new product, any new course, any new training, write a blog post about it. This is a good way to promote it and to hyperlink to it and send people to your sales page to buy it. Blogs get indexed onto Google. If it's a helpful blog post, people will find it easily. They'll read the content and they'll want more of it. So you guessed it, they're going to sign up for your product or service. This is a great evergreen marketing strategy. Write a dedicated post for every new thing you launch. Take the time to write something thorough. If you want an example, go to our blog over@webinar ninja.com blog. One of our latest blog posts is about how to get more clients as a coach. And it's such a detailed blog post for a reason. If people read it and they find it useful, they're Gonna love our three day challenge that we link to. That's a $37 product, so go ahead and check that out as an example.
