In today's episode, you will learn why you don't need to love what you do. The most overrated piece of advice I've heard in the business world is follow your passion. Do what you love for a living. Turn your passion into your profits. And I'm here to say a lot of people don't get started on the road of entrepreneurship because they can't find something that's a viable business that they love doing every single day. Here's the reality of success. It takes work. It takes you doing things every day that you don't love. Whether you're an artist, an entrepreneur, an athlete, a craftsman. It's impossible to just do what you love every single day, all day, and be highly successful at it. I'm going to give you an alternative today. I'm going to give you a different formula, working on things that excite you, that challenge you, that you enjoy enough that you'll put up with some things that you have to do that you don't love to make it happen. We'll also talk about at the end of the day, you want to be successful. And if you're good at what you do, if you're winning, you're going to love it. And that's ultimately what you're trying to achieve. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business.

Edu When I started my entrepreneurial journey about 19 years ago, I really struggled with starting a business that I could stick with for a long period of time because I was convinced or I was told that I have to love it every moment and it has to be my passion. It has to be my calling. And that's so grandiose. It's so hard to do something that you love every single day. And then I realized that's a bunch of bs. You don't need to do what you love every day. Most people don't. Even the most highly successful people. In the book Grit by Angela Duckworth, she talks about Olympic athletes, swimmers in particular. She interviews a bunch of them and she asked them the question, do you love swimming? Pretty logical question. I mean, if you're a gold medalist, you probably love swimming, right? It's your passion. The answer was very interesting. This particular gold medalist said, do I love swimming? Are you asking me if I love waking up at 4 in the morning so I can jump into a cold pool and spend two hours doing laps, looking at nothing but a blue line on the bottom of the swimming pool floor, having a really restricted diet, not being able to eat what I love, having to study film, having to train six to eight hours a day, work towards one event every four years? No, of course I don't love that. But I'm willing to do that because I love being a champion. I love being great at what I do. And that answer was gold to me because that's exactly the reality of the world. That's the reality of success. People will put up with hard work, things that they would never do in their right mind because it's painful. Why do they do it? Because they want to win. Because they want to be successful. Because they want what comes with that success. So if you wake up every morning and you are not smiling ear to ear every minute of the day, when you do the work you need to do for your business, it doesn't mean you're in the wrong business. It doesn't mean you can't be successful. There are many things that I have to do every day in my business that I don't enjoy, but I do it because what I really enjoy is creating a great product, a great service for my audience. Ultimately, that's success to me. I want to be successful. I want to provide that to people. I want to create a lifestyle and a living that allows me to do other things that I enjoy as well, like my hobbies, like travel, like spending time with my loved ones. This is why I do what I do every day now as much as possible. I try to outsource the things that I don't enjoy. But I'd be fooling myself if I would tell myself, oh, I can just love every moment of my day and everything I do I love, and I'm just skipping in the park. No, that's called retirement. That's not work anymore. And if it's not hard, you're not pushing yourself. You're not challenging yourself. You're not building something bigger than yourself, something significant, something important. And when you do those things, sometimes you fail. Sometimes it doesn't work out. And failure is not fun. Let's just be real. It doesn't feel good to not actually succeed. But of course, we learn from our failures. We pick ourselves up, we see it as a learning opportunity, and we move on. But do I love that? Of course not. But what I do love is what entrepreneurship can provide for me in my life. I love being an entrepreneur. I love being able to solve problems for people. I love who I've become through this journey, and I. And therefore I have to do things that allow me to get to that point and beyond. If all you did is things that you enjoyed and nothing else, you probably won't get that far. You're not really sacrificing. You're not really Working, you're not really stretching yourself, just staying in your comfort zone. And let me tell you something about doing what you're passionate about every day or following your passion. I absolutely love basketball. Basketball is one of my favorite things in the world. I can watch it, I can play it, but I love for a period of time when I was younger, I played basketball every single day. I trained, I played games, and I didn't love it every day. It was painful to sit in an ice bath because my legs are absolutely shot from training four to five hours. I couldn't hang out, I couldn't have fun. I basically went to school and then just played ball. There were a lot of sacrifices involved. So even when I was doing the thing I loved the most, it wasn't great all the time. In fact, most of the time I was in pain. But there were moments of love and passion and greatness, moments in important games where I'm happy to train and work hard to get to those positions where I can have those magic moments on the core. The same thing goes with any kind of craft. And entrepreneurship is a craft. It's a skill. Even if you're learning how to play the piano or you're trying to be a master pianist, it's going to take eight hours of playing on the piano. Anything you do eight hours straight doesn't become fun after a while. But again, it's a means to a bigger end.

Eduardo to wrap up today's lesson, there's a difference between loving what you do every day in terms of the tasks and loving what you do overall. Meaning what your job, what your business, what your career, what your entrepreneurship journey leads to, what it gets you, what life it crafts for you, the opportunities it gives you. I've met some incredible people, some interesting people. I made awesome friends through this journey that was tough and hard. And I had to do things I didn't love sometimes. Things I just didn't like, period. Borderline hate. But I did it anyway because I know it's gonna get me somewhere. It's going to result in something that I absolutely thankful to myself that I put in the work to achieve. You don't have to love what you do every day. You don't have to be totally passionate about your business. You just gotta be passionate about the mission and what you're trying to accomplish. Thank you so much for listening to the Hunter MBA show. Today's episode's not over, though. It's Free Ride Friday. Let's see who won this week's Free ride. And the winner is. Nerdtobee. Entrepreneurship is hard work. There are long days, often without many breaks, and it's easy to burn out. You gotta be careful. I've seen this in myself and others. Make sure you plan time. Extended time to recharge. I'm not talking about just the weekend. I'm talking about taking a week off, two weeks off, a month off if you can. But the point here is that you need to schedule that time to take off or it just won't happen. Prioritize it, and make sure you preempt burnout so you can continue to achieve your goals. Thank you so much for listening and I'll check you in Monday's episode. I'll see you then. Take care.
