If you're ready to hire somebody to take care of the marketing in your business, what do you look for? What do you put in the job description? How do you find the right person for your business? That's what today's episode's all about. The right marketer is going to change depending on your needs, your wants, your Budget, all that kind of stuff. So finding the right person to make sure your business grows via marketing is not a cookie cutter solution. I can't just say, find somebody with these skills. The skills you need will depend on what your business needs and can do right now. So I'm going to outline what those options are so that you can find the great marketer you've been looking for. Somebody that's actually going to be able to move the needle and give you return on the investment. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Hey, Fidelity. How can I remember to invest every month? With the Fidelity app, you can choose a schedule and set up recurring investments in stocks and ETFs. Huh, that sounds easier than I thought. You got this? Yeah, I do. Now, where did I put my keys? You will find them where you left them. Investing involves risk, including risk of loss. Fidelity Brokerage Services llc Member NYSE SIPC I want to start by saying that the fact that you're thinking about hiring somebody to do your marketing is a good sign. Marketing is a must have. You have to market your business. You have to get the word out and give your customers a chance to find out who you are. And it's not something that you just do for a little while and you forget about. You got to keep on doing. One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make is that they don't consistently market. So, good news. You're looking for a marketer. What should you be looking for? So the first thing I want to ask you to ask yourself is what's your budget beyond the hire? So say for example, you're going to hire somebody to take care of your marketing. They're going to charge you $5,000 a month. Beyond that hire, beyond that expense, how much money are you ready to spend every single month? If you're not looking to spend at least $3,000 in marketing, at least, then you don't really need to find somebody that is good at paid acquisition. Paid acquisition basically means somebody is good at running ads. Facebook ads, Instagram ads, YouTube ads, whatever. That's a skillset. Somebody that really knows the numbers and knows how to convert your customers via paid acquisition. But if you don't have the money to spend on ads, and that's okay, I've been there before, then you don't need that type of person. If you, if you aren't going to spend money on ads, you still have to market, but you'll have to have different strategies. Somebody that's good at different things and often People that are good at non paid advertising or non paid strategies are not good at paid strategies. So it's good to know where you stand, how much money you're going to spend on paid marketing. And if it's not 3,000 or more, then you need somebody that's good at growth marketing, somebody that can do some organic growth, that could do content marketing, that can help boost your presence in terms of your SEO, your blog, your content, social media, things like that. Now you might be asking Omar, why would I spend on ads if somebody can grow it without spending on ads? Well, that's simple. Paid advertising is one of the fastest ways for you to grow your business. It's a matter of speed. It's also a matter of scale. There's only so much you can do with organic and growth, and it's good when you're getting started because you don't have any yet. But at some point, after a few years in your business, you, you're going to have to start acquiring customers via paid ads. But if you're new to marketing and you haven't done any growth marketing or any content marketing, then you got a lot of work to do. And you don't really need to get started with ads. Unless you're in a rush to grow your business and start exploding, then paid ads is the fastest way to do it. So it's about speed and it's about scale. So if you're not gonna use paid ads or you can't afford it at the moment, that's okay. Focus on growth marketing. Find somebody who's a growth marketer, somebody who can help you grow with content marketing with SEO. Like I mention, with your social media handles, with guest appearances, on podcasts, with affiliate marketing, with partnerships, there's a whole lot more you can do in marketing other than paid ads. And people that are good at that are people that have done it before. That's how you know they're gonna be good for you. You need to find people that have experience at exactly what you need. So when you create your job description, make sure you say that. Make sure I need you to be able to do XYZ and have done it before. And history is the best evidence. Same thing goes when it comes to paid advertising. For example, with our software company, Webinar Ninja, we do a lot of paid advertising because we want to scale and grow a little bit faster. Finding somebody to do that has a special skill set. They're pretty much a data scientist really, and they're going to help you leverage that strategy. Does this mean I stopped doing growth marketing? No, it just means that we have a system now. We have a cadence. We've established our growth marketing and our content marketing. We're good to go. We know what to do, we're doing it. We have a schedule, a production schedule. It's all good. I need somebody to come in and help optimize my paid ads. This is a gap in my business, and this is why we did this. So knowing what you need and who you need is really, really important. Next. It is really helpful if you find somebody who has some experience in your market. And it doesn't have to mean like, oh, if you sell earrings on Shopify, you need to find somebody that has marketed an earrings Shopify store before. No, it's enough for somebody to be able to help you that has experience in E commerce. Okay? Advertising for e commerce is very different than advertising for an online course or for software or for services. So make sure you're actually getting somebody that has experience in your market, in your field. So it's helpful for a software company to find somebody who's done ads for software before. If you're a consultant, find somebody that has helped market a consulting firm before. Next, they have to be able to tell you what they can and cannot do. Some marketers are great at running the ads or the strategy, but they're not so good at the communication or maybe the graphics or the copy. They need to tell you that, and you need to get that out of them. Because if that's the case, that's okay. But you need to be able to supplement those skills that they have with the skills they don't have, like copywriting skills, for example, or, you know, being able to do some graphic design in Canva. And this will really help you know what you're paying for and negotiate a good rate. But most of all, when you're hiring someone for marketing, this is somebody that is good with numbers. Okay? A marketer really is somebody that can tell you in black and white in a spreadsheet if the marketing is working. This means conversion rates. This means cost per acquisition. This means regular reports that you have to get every single week. At least something that you can look at and say, okay, the trend is moving up. We're getting more leads, we're getting more trials, we're getting more traffic. I know what sources are getting us the best clients. The more data, the better. The better you're able to perform, the better you're going to be able to attract the right clients. So make sure They're a numbers person, somebody that can actually provide you reports in detail with what's working with. Not they're not going to just give it to you unless they're highly, highly qualified, professional and they're just really good at what they do. You're going to have to ask for it. You're going to have to ask for that weekly sync. You're going to have to ask for the regular reporting. You're going to have to ask for what you want to know so that they can give it to you in a timely fashion. You've made it on time for the McDonald's breakfast menu. You think to yourself, finally, I can start my day. But what if breakfast could be even more perfect with the hot honey sausage egg biscuit? It finally is. Go to McDonald's and get it while you can. To wrap up today's lesson. Marketing is essential to grow your business. All the skills I mentioned, depending on what kind of business you're in and what stage you're in is important. But lastly, they have to be a good culture fit. If you don't find somebody that you can work with regularly and work with the rest of your team, it's going to be really hard to have any momentum and some sustainability. You'll find that people are not jiving well and you'll have to replace them. They have to really believe in your culture, in your brand and what you're trying to build. They have to be motivated, they have to be excited to work with you. When you get off their interview call, they got to make you feel like they genuinely are looking forward to working with you. If you don't get that vibe to me, I'm not interested. I need somebody who is motivated, self motivated, that is really bought in into what I am trying to do with my business. Now the flip side is that you have to sell them on the job. You have to tell them what the vision is. You have to share what you're trying to do. You have to actually sell working there. And if they're sold, if they're like, I'm in, I love this. This sounds great, I'm excited. When can I start? That's. But if after you tried to sell it to them, they're kind of just like indifferent to me, that's a red flag. That's a no. I need somebody who's ready to go, ready to rock and roll the moment they get started and are dedicated to helping our customers and helping us grow. Well, there you have it, guys. I hope that helped when you're looking to hire your first marketer for your business. But today's episode is not over. It's Free Ride Friday. Let's see who won this week's Free Ride.
