But once I automated the admin side.
Of things of my finances, those nights.
Had disappeared and I felt a whole lot better. Listen in on Friday just like today to see if you won. We announce this week's winner a little bit later in the episode. In today's lesson you will learn why you are being ignored. Many new and growing entrepreneurs ask the question, why are my tweets? Why are my videos? Why are my blog posts? Why my podcast episodes? Why is the copy on my website being ignored? Why aren't people liking or sharing it? Why aren't people commenting? Well I'm going to answer that question today so you can stop being ignored and start being talked about. I'm going to give you some strategies and some mindset shifts so you can stop being invisible. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business.
They put hot honey sauce on the snack wrap. McDonald's outdid themselves again. The classic snack wrap we all know and love paired with the sweet heat of hot honey sauce. Just what we needed to make it even more perfect. You know the drill, so go to McDonald's and try it.
Today, most entrepreneurs, most business owners, this is not the first thing they've done in their career. They probably had another career, a job, they worked, another profession. That world is totally different than the business world, than the media world, than the world where you're trying to grow an audience. In the professional career, corporate ladder, you got to be buttoned up, you got to be professional. You got to tow the company in line. Being outspoken and being risky with what you present is not a good idea. You're going to ruffle feathers. Well, the opposite is true. In business, in marketing, in sales, the brands and the personalities we pay attention to are those that stand out, that are not vanilla, that do take a stand, that make a statement, that are even controversial. A good example of this is former Mr. Olympian, actor and governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. He open admits that he is a contradiction, that he is often controversial. He's an advocate for health and fitness, but he smokes cigars. He's a big supporter for fighting climate change, but he drives a Hummer. Most people would hide these things about themselves, thinking that people will call them a hypocrite. But he owns these contradictions. He points them out and says, hey, that's me. You might love him, you might hate him, but you're not going to ignore him. Now, let me be clear. I'm not trying to tell you to be controversial for controversy's sake, just to stand out. I'm saying own who you are, share who you are, because that's unique, that stands out. When I say who you are, I'm talking about you personally, as well as your company and your brand and your products. Good example of this is a software basecamp. To use basecamp, you pay $99 a month, period. Doesn't matter how many people are on your team, how many seats. And it does multiple things, which replaces multiple tools. They get in front of this and they say, hey, we don't overcharge you. We don't nickel and dime you like the competitors. This is who we are. That's something to pay attention to. They take a stand. You may not like the stand. You may not agree with the stand, but it gets people talking, it gets people engaged, it gets people commenting, it gets people sharing. What's unique about your business? What do you stand for? What do you believe in? What are you not? What you are not is as important as what you are. And speak out against that. Some of us try to protect ourselves too much, protect our business, protect our personal life and brand. I again that. But in order for you to grow an audience and have a Persona online, have a brand, you got to share a little bit. I'm not saying you have to share everything you do or what you believe in, but don't try to please everybody. Don't just sit on the fence and just not take a side. This is a recipe for being ignored. I know because I used to be that way until I got fed up and said, there's got to be a better way. This is what I want to share with you. I'm going to show you that better way. What are some of the exercises, some of the strategies you can take on today to stop being I want you to look at your business and I want you to choose a topic that is controversial, that not everybody's going to agree with, that you strongly believe in, that you actually truly believe in. For example, when I started the $100 MBA, my topic that kind of ruffled a lot of feathers is I said, for most people, going to business school is a big waste of money. And I explained why. And that opened debate and conversations on social media, on our blog, comments on our videos, things like that. When it comes to webinars, I have a webinar software called Webinar Ninja. One of the practices that we teach our students, our users, is, hey, if you're going to make an offer on the webinar, if you're going to sell something at the end, say it up front. Say in the beginning of the webinar, when you're talking about we're going to cover that session, that transparency builds trust. It's controversial because it's not really what a lot of the sales gurus teach. They want you to set up the sale at a certain point in the webinar. I say, people have seen this over and over already. They're not stupid. The least you could do is show them respect and say, hey, if you want to get started with what I'm talking about in today's webinar, we're going to have a special offer at the end. So hang on for that. People are surprised and are appreciative of that honesty. Stand for something. When it comes to my personal brand, I try to share a bit of my life that has affected me, something that actually moved me, and share the learnings that I learned along the way. Like recently I shared that four family members that I grew up with that were part of my family, my aunts and uncles passed away in the last two months. It really had me reflecting about how short life is, how fragile it is, and it made me take stock of where I'm spending my time and what am I stressing about, what's consuming my brain. Simply not worth it. Yeah, it's tough to share that you had death in the family and to talk about people that are close to you with strangers. But there's a lesson that I can share. There's something that I've learned that I think would be helpful for others. So I'm willing to share a little bit about myself to accomplish that. That doesn't get ignored. Something personal doesn't get ignored. People craving authenticity more than ever. There's so much fake garbage on social media. In media in general, on YouTube, on the Internet in general. Okay. People faking pranks, people faking heartfelt stories. People are tired of being just had. They want something real, they want something that is personal. They want to get to know you and what you're all about. And that includes your business. Another strategy to not be ignored is the next time you write or tweet or put something on social media media or create a video, instead of talking about some sort of strategy or some sort of hack or even some sort of win, you had talk about a challenge that you've had, a problem that you're going through. Even if you don't have a solution, be a little bit vulnerable and honest about your situation. A few years back I wrote about how I was worried that my dedication to my business was costing my health. And it was a wake up call for me to get back into shape, to eat better, to have an exercise regimen. I kind of fell off course and I was embarrassed. But I wanted to share that challenge I was going through because I know a lot of other busy business owners are going through the same thing and can resonate with that and would relate to that. That stuff does not get ignored.
We've all been there. You hold on to a coupon but forget about it and suddenly it's expired.
Expired in 2012.
Dang it.
Fortunately, by switching to Geico, you could save about $900 on car insurance without ever touching a coupon.
It feels good to save big. It feels good to Geico. I want to give another strategy when it comes to not being ignored. Go deep on a topic. Instead of writing a 500 word blog post, write an 8000 guide blog post that goes totally in depth. Nothing shallow here, right? You're really dedicating yourself to be the ultimate resource on this topic. We did this with our website Webinar Ninja with the ultimate webinar guide. It's an 8,500 word blog post that's essentially like a digital ebook. It covers everything you would ever want to know about running a webinar. That doesn't get ignored, it gets shared. Because people see this actually has value. People actually put time to building this thing and creating this and putting the images together and making the chapters and linking out to all the special resources. Deep work is appreciated and is shared and it's eye catching. So choose to go deep on a topic. Maybe for you, that's an hour and a half episode on a podcast. Or maybe it's an hour long video, a documentary of some sort. In today's world, an hour long video on YouTube is like a masterpiece, right? That's epic compared to the 10 minute videos everybody sees or the 10 second videos they see on TikTok. The funny thing is that when you go deep on a topic and you have a long form piece of content, many people will share it just as soon as they land on it because like, whoa, this thing is huge. It's so in depth, it's amazing. They'll share it even before they read it or not read it at all. But they just feel like it's worth sharing because it's so incredible. Well, there you have it, guys. I want to make sure that you take this on, take on the strategies I shared today, understand that you need to take a stand. You need to stand for something. You got to believe in something. You got to have an opinion. You got to voice that opinion in order for you not to be ignored online. Today's episode's not over though. It's Free Ride Friday. Let's see who won this week's Free Ride. And the winner is. Matty. Matty says Incredible Podcast five stars. This podcast is a must listen for anybody looking to level up in business. Omar is super knowledgeable and shares great insights and actionable advice in every episode. Well, thanks Matty for that great review. Your mission is to email me over@omar100mba.net so I can hook you up with free access to our $500 course over at EasyCourse Co so you can build your own online course in 30 days. If you want to win a free ride, just leave us an Apple Podcast rating and review. It's that simple. Listen in on Friday just like today to see if you won. Before I go, I want to leave you with this. If you're a little bit nervous about being yourself and taking a stand and having an opinion and being a little bit controversial, take baby steps. Do enough that just scares you a little bit, and then take another step further the next time around. The next time around it will get easier. Over time you'll start to realize other people's opinions really don't matter that much. In fact, the more people that chat about what I say or maybe even disagree, the better for me and my brand. People don't have to agree with you to respect you. Be yourself and be proud of who you are. Voice your opinions and put it out there in the world. Thanks so much for listening and I'll check you in Monday's episode. I'll see you then. Take care.
