Hey, welcome to the $100 RBA Show. The place to be to build the business you want every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of Webinar Ninja, an independent software company I started with my co founder back in 2014. And in today's episode you will learn. When is it time for a change? Maybe you're stuck in a rut in your business right now. Maybe you're fighting it hard to get up in the morning to get to work. Maybe you're feeling uninspired or just sick of the routine day in, day out. Many of us sometimes go to extremes. Meaning maybe I should sell my company. Maybe I should close the doors. Maybe I should change things up completely in my business. Well, I'm here to tell you before you do anything rash, there are a few things you may want to consider. A few changes you can make to shake things up and breathe new life into your life and your business. Listen, I've been building and running businesses for over 20 years. I've had my share of dips. I've had periods of time where it's like, hey, I just want to hang it all up. And what I realize is that most of the time. The problem is not the actual business or what you actually do. It's something internal inside of you that needs to change. And it's not going to change by itself. You got to take action and make some changes around you in what you do every day to start feeling different and feel excited again about what you do. So today I'm going to give you my surefire strategies to shake things up in your life, in your business, so you can start enjoying things again so you're not stuck in that rut for too long. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Support for today's show comes from virtual gurus. Many business owners get stuck. They can't scale their business anymore because they've run out of all the time they have. They're working, they're hustling, but it's just not enough. The key to scaling your business is offloading work you shouldn't be doing. You need to start building a team of people doing tasks that are sucking your time but not really your secret sauce, your superpower that you love doing every day. How do you start building that team? Well. Well, that's where virtual gurus come in. They help you build a team around you to get the support you need without breaking the bank. They match you with skilled, remote administrative talent and you pay only for the hours you need. With an affordable subscription plan with no long term commitments or recruiting costs, you can build the support team you need while keeping your operation lean, saving you up to 40% compared to traditional hiring costs. And virtual gurus can help you find great people who are with great skill sets in all kinds of areas like bookkeeping and data entry, sales and marketing support, email and calendar management, and a whole lot more. They can connect you with one general assistant or multiple specialized assistants. But one of my favorite things about virtual gurus is that they're on a mission to provide meaningful work opportunities for underrepresented communities. So you'll benefit from an incredibly diverse talent pool. Book a free consult@thevirtualgurus.com MBA that's thevirtualgurus.com MBA MBA and get the support you need. Hey, listen, sometimes you get up in the morning and you just don't feel like doing the work. You're just having an off day. This is not what I'm talking about in today's episode. Having an off day is an exception. I'm talking about where it almost feels like you're going through a mini depression, where you go through the cycle of you're unfulfilled, you're unhappy, and yet you feel like you're being ungrateful. Because most people don't have the advantages you have. And therefore you just tell yourself to suck it up and keep on going day after day, week after after week, month after month. And I'm here to tell you, those feelings of depression, they're real. Somewhere along the line you are not being fulfilled. Something in your life is not making you feel content. And one of the biggest things that I have found that causes this is an imbalance in our life when it comes to variety and stability. Most of us work very hard to have stability in our life, to have security, financial security, emotional security in your relationships, personal security, meaning like your personal self confidence. We work so hard to get to this point where we feel like, okay, I'm alright. And then we don't want to change anything because we want to keep things as they are, safe and sound. But the problem is that as human beings, this doesn't fulfill us. We love new challenges, we love excitement, we love change in variety. This is what makes us feel alive. So I have clients and I coach them and they come to me with these feelings. I tell them, listen, you need a change. And I have to be very clear, I don't mean changing your business, okay? Sometimes a simple change in your life, even a short term change can make all the difference. Listen, your business, your work, your career, this is just one aspect, one input into your life and into your total happiness as a human being. Many of us, we get to the point where we are actually proud of what we've done. We were earning a good living, we've kind of hit all the milestones and we feel like we have to kind of shake things up in our business, change things, take some risks in order to start feeling fulfilled again. I'm here to tell you that that's not actually a good move to make as a first point of action, right? As a first resolution to a problem, okay? This is just one aspect of your life. You can be fulfilled and get those feelings of excitement in different areas of your. This is why I always tell people when they are in this rut that you are desperate to take a break. You need to take a break, you need to step away. When I say a break, I mean a break from everything you are normally doing. Take a holiday for two weeks and go somewhere completely different. Take a sabbatical. Sometimes just stepping out of your environment, going to a totally foreign country, something that is totally new to you, something that maybe even you thought is a little bit risky. Maybe you've always wanted to go to Cairo, go see what Japan is like, or maybe you hear good things about Colombia from friends and you want to go there. The problem is that most people, when they say, okay, I'm burnt out, I'm worn out, they go on a cruise, right? Or at best they go to Disney World or the UK if they're feeling adventurous. I'm here to tell you that's fine and all, and you're going to get some rest and relaxation, but it's not going to change your perspective. You're not going to learn anything new. You're not going to learn anything about yourself because you're not being stretched, because you're not getting out of your comfort zone. Go somewhere where you have to struggle to communicate and pick up a few words in the local dialect or local language. Go somewhere where you're not really sure what's on the menu, but you're going to give it a try anyway. Go somewhere where the pictures just don't do it justice. The memory is stronger because of the people you've met and the connections you made along the way. I found that traveling, and especially adventure traveling, when I say adventure traveling, I mean you're going on an adventure yourself. And putting yourself out of your comfort zone really resets your brain, resets your mood, resets your perspective on life in general and fulfills you in a way that a club minute vacation just can't. The thing about immersion in a new culture or a new environment does is that it forces you not to think about what you normally think about every single day. Whether it's your worries, your troubles, your anxieties. You're so focused on other things, on just getting by in this new country that your brain takes a break from the normal scheduled program. So this is my number one kind of strategy. If you can take a couple weeks off, at least if you can take more, that'd be amazing. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks, do it. Even if you can't take the time off and you have to work from there, you'll still feel the effects of what I'm talking about. Second strategy, if you're feeling in a funk, don't pick up a new project.
Outside of your work.
Can't travel. No problem. Dedicate the next three months to a new project. Maybe you've always wanted to get into amazing shape. Go all in. Go get yourself a personal trainer, a nutrition plan. Start buying the right foods, start working out. Take it seriously. Take Photos, take measurements, and dedicate some of your attention to something new. Sometimes we just need a win in our life. Sometimes we just need a sense of achievement, something new to take over. Sometimes in business, especially when we get to a certain point, we just start doing busy work. We start doing things that we don't really need to do. And we sometimes get in the way of the team by stepping away from it a little bit and allotting your time to something else in your life. Remember, your business is just one aspect of your life. It allows you to say, hey, there's other things in the world. There's other things in my life that will contribute to my happiness and fulfillment other than my business. It might be picking up a new musical instrument like the piano. One really fun hack to do is work towards something. So say, for example, you want to learn the piano so that in three months you can play your favorite love song to your loved one on your anniversary. Or maybe you're going to train for a triathlon. That's coming up. The point here is that you can find a lot of fulfillment in things outside of your business. That makes you appreciate your business. That allows you to do that. Sometimes not thinking about something allows you to think clearly about something. This is really something I have found is true. When you step away from something for a while, your subconscious kind of solves problems on its own. And then when you get back to it, you realize, oh, the problem is actually quite simpler than I thought. The feelings I'm feeling are actually just because I've been living in those feelings for so long. Third strategy, and this one's a tough one, but it's very helpful. Talk to a fellow entrepreneur. Talk to somebody you can trust, a friend, a mentor even, and just pour your heart out. Say, hey, this is what I'm feeling. This is why I'm burnt out. This is what I'm feeling about my business. This is what I'm thinking about doing or changing or shutting things down. Get their perspective. And this perspective from another entrepreneur is very valuable because they can empathize. They know exactly what you're going through. They've been through it, probably. They also can see things clearly because they're outside of the equation. They can tell you, that's a smart move, or that's a smart move, stupid move. What are you thinking about? Have you thought about doing this or doing that? But most of all, they're going to let you know if you're being too hard on yourself. As entrepreneurs, we're overachievers most of us are incredibly hard on ourselves. We're our biggest critic, we're our biggest judge. And sometimes we don't even realize it until we talk to somebody else who tells us, I think you're just being a little bit too much, right? You're just piling on yourself for no reason. Now it's important that you talk to somebody who is actually an entrepreneur like you, that's probably in the same journey as you or maybe in the same stage in their entrepreneurial career because they're going to get it right. They're going to understand and they're going to give you a fair judgment of your perspective and what you're thinking about. Don't talk to a friend or family member that just loves and cares about you. That's great and all. And they're probably going to just pat you on the back and say you're going to be all right. You need somebody who can understand what you're going through and can see themselves in you. And guess what? When they're in a Ruth, you're going to be there for them. I got more on today's topic, but before that, let me give love to today's sponsor. Support for today's show comes from virtual gurus. The biggest lesson I've learned in the last 10 years as an entrepreneur is that my time and what I spend my time on is the single thing that will determine my success. If you want to drive your business forward, you got to find the discipline to focus on the key priorities you need to tackle while getting the right support for the things others can do for you. How do you find these people that can do this work for you? Well, that's where virtual gurus come comes in. You can get the support you need to outsource the tasks you shouldn't be doing without breaking the bank. They match you with skilled remote administrative talent and you only pay for the hours you need through an affordable subscription plan with no long term commitments or recruiting costs. That means you can build the support team you need while keeping your operations lean, saving you up to 40% compared to traditional hiring costs. Today, guys and gals, I want to share with you one more strategy. Most people when they get to this point, they're thinking about selling their business or closing the doors or stepping away. They just get overwhelmed with all the pressure and just feel like it's not worth it anymore. If you've exhausted all my strategies and still feel this way, do what I call a mock sale. Pretend you sold the company. Okay, I know this sounds a little bit strange, but just hang in there with me. Pretend you sold the company to somebody in your company. The next person in line, maybe another C level manager or a manager in an apartment, hand over the reins, say, hey, you're going to run the company for the next month, the next two months, next three months. I need to take care of something. Maybe give them a bump of salary or maybe not. Maybe just say this is an experiment to see how you do if all goes well. Maybe a promotion's in line and let go. Tell them if there's an emergency or you can't handle something, they can call you. Maybe do a week of transition where you transition over things and that's it. They take over. This is not your business anymore. You're gonna pretend that you sold it. Now what are you gonna do with your time? This is really important because most people just think about getting out and they don't even think about what they're gonna do afterwards or how they're gonna fulfill themselves with all this time. You might love it, you might hate it. You might realize, wow, I had a great business. I could have utilized some of the resources or the staff or the income to build something new or build something within the company that gives me life. I urge you not to go back to the business until the Time period is up. So if you say, hey, we're going to do this for a month or three months, push yourself to the end, you need to feel the pain of what it's like. Or if you're not in pain, maybe you're enjoying it. You got to see how long that enjoyment lasts. Maybe you're all good for the first few weeks and you're loving this thing, not dealing with the business. But then you start to realize, oh, I kind of run out of things to do or to think about or to occupy my time or my ambition. I know this sounds like a crazy idea, but what's so crazy about it? What would happen if you got sick all of a sudden and you were in hospital, you can't go to work, you can't run the business, the next in line person would probably pick, take over, right? They would just take care of things for you until you came back. So it's not crazy. This could actually happen and you don't risk anything here. Worst case scenario, things just remain as they are. And when you come back, if you come back, you build upon what you've built with renewed energy. That wraps up today's episode. Thank you so much for listening to the Hundred Dollar MBA show. If you love what you hear, hit subscribe so you don't miss an episode. Every day we release a new episode, a new business lesson to help you build a better business and become a better entrepreneur. Before I go, I want to leave you with this. One of my favorite things about traveling and definitely traveling to different corners of the world, is that you don't realize how good you have it until you go somewhere different. That is actually a different world compared to what you're used to. Things that you take for granted, like starting a business, is incredibly hard in some societies. It's a fast way to get grateful about what you have and also understand what that the blessings you have are there for you to use. Don't take them for granted. Just don't let them hang around. Make use of them. Those advantages you have are your disposal at any time. Whether your home country has a better economy or less corruption or easy access to capital. Sometimes we need reminders that, hey, we have these tools at our disposal. We can use them to improve things in our life and in our business. Thank you so much for listening and I'll check you in tomorrow's episode Freeride Friday. I'll see you then. Take care.
You've made it on time for the McDonald's breakfast menu. You think to yourself, finally I could start my day with my perfect breakfast. But what if breakfast could be even more perfect with the hot honey sausage egg biscuit? It finally is. This won't last forever, so go to McDonald's and get it while you can.
