Let me tell you about Intuit QuickBooks. When I was starting out my business, I remember sitting at my desk late at night not working on my business but cleaning up numbers, tracking and reconciling payments and wondering how this became my life. But once I automated the admin side of things, of my finances, those nights had disappeared and I felt a whole lot better. Outdo it with intuit QuickBooks QuickBooks is the trusted end to end solution that businesses rely on for getting paid, managing finances, paying employees, finding new customers and more. We announce this week's winner a little bit later in the episode. In today's lesson you will learn how to create an email offer. You have a product for sale, you want to sell it to your email list. How do you do it properly? I've been working on this episode for about three months actually. This is a very very near and dear topic to me because I'm A big fan of email marketing. And what I'm going to share with you today is basically the secrets that me and my team have been doing and using for years. When I decide to structure an offer and offer it to my email list, I don't want to annoy them. I don't want them to feel like this is spam. I want to make sure they understand it's relevant. But most of all, I want them to enjoy the emails, to actually enjoy reading them, consuming them, and look forward to the next one. But most importantly, I want them to convert. I want them to buy. So in today's lesson, I'm going to give you some personal coaching. Share with you how to structure your emails so that you can sell more of your products. When it's time for an offer, when it's time for a sale, when it's time for a launch, let's get into it, let's get down to business. So we have a product, we have a service. It could be a course, it could be a software, it could be a training, it could be coaching, it could be whatever. And we want to offer it to our email subscriber. Now, you can do this in an automated fashion, meaning they get an automated email when they sign up, or you could do this whenever you do some sort of sale or launch in your business. And basically what I suggest is you send out a series of emails. Five emails is my recommendation. You can do six or seven, but no less than five. And there's several reasons why. Because you need enough time, you need enough touch points and enough opportunity to build the trust with your audience and show them why what you're offering is something that they actually want and need. And if you're just sending out a couple emails to say, hey, this product is for sale, come and get it, you're doing it wrong. And I'm just saying that flat out because I know I used to do that back in the day and wonder why didn't I make as many sales as I'd like? That's called half assing it, right? It's called not really putting your heart into it. But more importantly, it's called not understanding how people buy. This is especially important if you're sending these emails out to somebody new on your list. Now, you don't know when somebody subscribes. You might be doing a sale and somebody just subscribed to your email list yesterday. Or this could be an automated email that you send out to make an offer once they join your email list. So let's Send out the proper amount and let's send out the proper content and sequence. Now, before we get into the nitty gritty, I want to mention a few things. Number one, a lot of what I'm going to be sharing with you today was learned by trial and error. Made a lot of mistakes, and there's nothing wrong with that. So these are tried and true techniques. Number two, I didn't learn this alone. I have a team around me. I have an incredible copywriter, Connor, who's been on my team for like seven years. He knows exactly my voice. We work together on copy all the time. I got a great co founder, has great aesthetics and great ideas. I got a great marketer in Cindy, helps take these ideas and create great images and videos out of them. So you're not only learning from my experiences, but other people on our team. Now, I also want to mention a few resources that have influenced my strategy and what we do in our business. One is a very simple book called this book will teach you how to write better by Neville Medora, a great copywriting book that teaches you the fundamentals. Another book is Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. It's disguised as a negotiating book, but really it's a sales book. And lastly, a resource I absolutely love, I mentioned on the show before called Storytelling tactics. This is a deck of cards by Pip Deck that teaches you how to tell different kinds of stories. And this is important because we will be telling stories in our emails, because stories are the best way to illustrate an idea. We are storytellers as a species. Human beings understand stories. They see images with stories in their head. They conceptualize ideas. They imagine themselves in the story. This is why it's important to always have a narrative in your emails, whether you're writing a newsletter or you're selling. Yes, you want to have some bullet points and point out what it includes in the offer, but that's the details. That's something. That's probably 10% of the email. The rest, you're taking them on a journey. So we talked about five emails to sell your offer on email. The first email, you really should be focusing on them. Your audience, your avatar, the person that's about to open this email and read it before you even talk about your offer, how much it costs, what it includes, the bonuses, all that stuff. They need to understand that this is something they need to pay attention to, that this is for them. And the best way for them to know that is to see themselves in the email. So email one's all about your Audience's profile, who they are as a person. One exercise I recommend you do, it's gonna take you five minutes, is to just write down what are the characteristics of a typical customer of yours? Even give them a name, a made up name if you want to, or somebody that you know is a customer, and just use that person and write down the answers to these questions like what's their age? What's their gender? All right, how much money are they making? What's their income? What do they do for a living? How do they describe themselves? What are their problems? Okay. What are they going through and how are you going to help them with those problems? What are some positive things about them? What are their hopes? What are their values? What are their ambitions? What are some not so positive, negative things about them? What are their fears, their anxieties? What are some of the things that they actually are scared of that might put them off your product that's holding them back? And lastly, what do people say already about your product or about you or your work? This will give you a good understanding of who you're talking to. And this is going to help you a whole lot when you're writing all these emails. So your job in this email is to make sure that your audience member feels heard. And what I like to do is I like to share a story in my life that really would resonate with them, that actually they see themselves in this story, whether it's the traits and who they are, the problems they have, the positives, the negatives. You talked about their fears because that story is really going to grip them because they're going to be like, oh, this is exactly how I feel. And while you have them in the palm of your hands sharing this vulnerable story about your life, you end the email by saying, but I overcame those problems, I overcame those fears and I'm in a better place now. And it's all because of the things I've learned or done or created that I'll tell you in my next email. You guessed it. Your next email is going to be talking about your product or service. Your product or service is the result of everything you've learned, everything that you have done and overcame to become who you are today. It's the solution. But what's beautiful about this first email is that they connect with you. They see themselves, they feel validated in their problems and their fears, and then you tell them there is a solution, there is a way out, and you hit them with a cliffhanger and tell them, in my next email, I'm going to tell you all about it. Email two, we're going to sell them on the solution which is our product or service by sharing a story again, a story about someone like them who has bought your product. The point of this email is to share a story which has the moral of we solved their problem and we can solve yours too. So the main things in this story is you're going to share a story that has the same avatar as the one we Created in Email 1. And this is about a customer that consumed your product and got the desired result. What's going to happen here is the reader is going to say, I connect with this person. This is somebody like me. And if somebody like me bought this product and it worked for them, it's probably gonna work for me as well. Now this is not a testimonial, this is a story. This is actually kind of like a case study where this says, hey, let me tell you about Matt. Matt does xyz. Before he took our course, bought our product, took our coaching, he was struggling. These are his problems, these are his fears. Guess what? Same problems and fears we talked about in the first email. He then started to implement our product. And now this is the after picture. Fears and anxiety destroyed, problems solved, smile on the face. Now what's so powerful about this story is that you don't need to sell your product. The product sells itself through the story of a customer. You don't need to talk about price, you don't need to talk about the value, you don't need to talk about the bonuses, any of that stuff. This is what's going to sell them. And this first email is when you say, hey, if you want to learn more about my product or service, click the link here and this goes to your sales page. You don't need to really push the product that much because again, this story in itself is going to help you. The third email is all about social proof. Now this is different from the second email. This is an email where we're not going to be doing so much storytelling as stacking social proof. These are short testimonials about your actual product. We're going to focus on the product right now and not the whole story of the before and after. These are like five star reviews that you're getting on your website or on review sites or Google. They're saying things like what they like about the product. They're sharing that moment when they said, wow, this is the right decision. It also helps to throw in a funny or humorous testimonial that shows a little character and that you don't take yourself too seriously. And really this email is all about hey, I mentioned about my product XYZ and what it does in my previous email. Let me share with you what other people have said about my product. And you're literally just stacking five, six, seven different testimonials. Now I like to wrap up this email with a trend line. This is where you can present some data about what is happening in the world that's in favor of your product or service. Let's say, for example, you are selling a YouTuber Academy, a course on how to become a YouTuber. You may want to add the status how quickly YouTube's been growing over the years and how there's a lot of eyeballs there so you can get attention for your content. You may want to add some of the revenue that some of these YouTubers are making, maybe the top 10 earners and how much they're making. What are some of the other opportunities that they may not be looking at by being in this market and being a part of this trend? Whether it's sponsorships, brand deals, or maybe even TV and movies, this gets people excited and they're like, hey, this is a gravy train I got to jump on before it leaves the station. Packed with the social proof of all the testimonials and the trend lines, you got a powerful third email.

And I love this type of email because everybody resonates with this story. It's the classic rags to riches story and we're going to use that structure in email 4. Whether it's Cinderella, Rocky, or even Steve jobs, an orphan turned billionaire. It's the same story. The rise to success from humble beginnings. Why are these stories so popular? Because everybody hopes to have this story in their life. It gives people optimism and hope and you want to connect those feelings to your product or service. I believe that this story structure is more powerful when you share it as your own rags to riches story. Find your own rags to riches story that happened in your life and usually it's four stages where you start off in a low place, but you feel like you have potential, like there's something inside you that feels you can get out of this situation. Something triggers a change in your life. This could be a struggle. This could be an inspirational book or movie or conference you went to. You struggle to get to where you got to go. This is usually epitomized by a Rocky training montage and then you get to your destination or your deserved recognition. Cinderella finds true love. Rocky goes toe to toe with the champion of the world. The Batman defeats the Joker and saves Gotham City. The reason why I love the rags to riches story and why you should include it in your fourth email is because it actually builds trust with your audience. Because people trust people that say, hey, it's not always going to be easy. People respect you for your sacrifice and respect you for your honesty. But also people are willing to do anything, buy anything, if they feel like they're going to get a good outcome. The outcome is going to be positive if there's a high likelihood to that outcome. And by sharing your story, it does just that. I like to end this email by saying, hey, let's go on your journey and get you to your destination, to your outcome together with my product. Here are the details. And lastly, email 5 and this is what I call the perfect pitch. This email is just all about the product and the offer. You need to basically boil down your offer into a couple of lines answering what problem are you solving? Who do you solve it for? How do you solve it? And why they should trust you? And then you hit them up with the details of the offer and the link. This is very straightforward. So when they read it they're like, yep, this is exactly what I want. There's no fluff. This is when we stop telling stories and we start just telling them what's in it for them. So let me give you an example. For example, we are launching Course Ninja, our live course platform. Here's my perfect pitch. Grab Course Ninja today so you can teach live and get paid. You can cancel five plus tools that you're trying to frankenstein together to make it happen. Use one tool to market, sell and deliver your training. We've been around for over eight years, have served over 30,000 users and we can't wait to serve you. Done. That's my pitch. In that pitch I talk directly to them about what they're going to get, how they're going to be able to use it easily, what problem it solves, who's it for, how we solve it and why they should trust us. And then it's just call to action. From there. Grab this offer at this link. Here's what it includes. This is the price, here's the deadline. This is when the offer ends. And there you have it guys, the five emails that I want to pass on to you to sell your offer. Thank you so much for listening to the 100 MBA show. If you love what you hear, hit subscribe.
