I'm also the co founder of Webinar Ninja, an independent software company I started with my co founder back in 2014 and in today's episode you will learn five steps to launching a YouTube channel in 2023. If you haven't heard, YouTube is the number one content platform in the world, meaning there's more content consumed on YouTube than any other platform out there. This is why so many people are interested in starting YouTube channels, because there are a lot of eyeballs there. In fact, YouTube users view over a whopping $1 billion billion hours of video every single day on YouTube. A billion hours. YouTube is such a dominant platform that 81% of adults in the US watch videos on YouTube regularly. It's the go to platform for people to learn things, to discover new ideas, do research, look at product reviews. It's also a place where a lot of people have made money. YouTube has one of the most creator focused platforms, meaning they want to make sure that their creators are taken care of so they can put out great content and monetize that content with ads. They made $7 billion just in a single quarter, in 2021 in ad revenue. So you want to jump into the game. You want to do it right. This episode is going to show you how to focus on what's important in five steps in launching your YouTube channel. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Let's get your YouTube channel all ready for launch. I got five steps that are really important, especially in today's world, in 2023, that you'll need to focus on. Let's start with number one, which is your niche. When YouTube started, it was okay for you to basically vlog about anything. It was wild west. People are watching all kinds of videos and you could just publish any good content about anything and you'll be alright. But because of YouTube's popularity, it's become crowded now. It doesn't mean that it's over for all new creators. It just means that you have to focus. You have to niche down on a topic and become the expert when it comes to that topic. Now, I get it. We all have interests and we may want to talk here and there about those interests. But when you're creating a YouTube channel, your best bet is to focus on your area, on your niche. And choosing that niche is important. So I like to say choose something that you have experience in, that you can add value, that you enjoy, a combination of both, something that you actually love, but at the same time you can add unique value to. For example, one of my favorite YouTube channels is abroad in Japan. Chris, who runs this channel, lives in Japan and shares stories, videos, tips, information on what it's like to live in Japan, to visit Japan, to be a foreigner in Japan. Now, I'm sure Chris has other interests, but he focuses on his niche and creates incredible content. And even though he's chosen a niche like Japan or what's life like in Japan, he's got tons of content that he can explore. He's got reoccurring characters on his channel, friends of his that are in Japan, and because of this, he has nearly 3 million subscribers. Now, of course, from those subscribers, there are people that are tuning in because they're visiting Japan and they want to get some tips. And there's going to be people that just want to live vicariously through his experience. There are going to be people that are a fan of his comedy and his videos. And that's the beauty of YouTube is that people can jump in and out of channels because of a specific video that the creator might create that will appeal to them. It Kind of opens the door and allows them to hey, get exposure to new subscribers. So the niche is very important. So find your niche, stick to it and be consistent with your content. That leads me to number two, your video content. This is really what matters most, how good your videos are. And when I say how good your videos are, I'm not talking about strictly how high quality of a production it is. It doesn't have to be a Hollywood film, but it does have to be decent. You want to try as much as possible to have a decent production quality. But what really makes a great video is the actual topic, the content, the script, what is being shared. One of my favorite YouTube is Van Nystant. He's a filmmaker, but his YouTube videos are quite simple. Therefore you can control the production quality of the video and keep it high. What I also love about Van Neistat's videos on his channel is that it's clear that he's invested time in creating quality content. Meaning he spent the time to flesh out the idea, to script it out, to shoot a lot of different scenes in B roll, to add interesting music that goes along. He's telling a story throughout the video and it never drags. It's well edited and it actually leaves you wanting more. Now word to the wise, you got to start somewhere. A lot of us, we dwell on the quality of our videos, especially the first few videos, and never launch our channel. My advice, get some videos under your belt. You're going to get better over time. You're going to be your biggest critic, but that's good. You're going to iterate and improve. But in order for you to have a channel with videos, you got to have videos. So start publishing and start improving and making each better and better than the last. Number three huge in 2023 thumbnails. This is the part a lot of people hate about YouTube. But it's a part of the process and it's more important than ever in 2023 is having attractive, enticing, click worthy thumbnails. This is the still image that you see before you click the video. The best YouTubers out there spend a lot of time creating their thumbnails, testing different thumbnails, seeing what works best, seeing what optimizes, what gets people clicking. Now you don't have to go to extremes, especially when you're getting started, but you should spend some time creating an attractive thumbnail. Something that really gets people thinking, hey, what's that all about? Creating thumbnails is quite easy. You don't need some special tools. You can just do it on Canva, which is free. Over@canva.com they have a template for thumbnails and then it's all up to you and your creativity. Remember, you gotta make sure your thumbnail is clear if you're using text. No matter what kind of device people are using, whether they're using your phone or a desktop or a laptop or tablet or whatever it is, don't try to cram too many words on the thumbnail. Most of all, make sure your thumbnail aligns with the actual video itself. Don't be a click baiter, right? Don't put something that just is shocking and wows and makes people want to click and has nothing to do with the actual video. That's a surefire way of getting people never to come back to your channel. Number 4 Description Nseo and remember, the description of video has a lot to do with how people can find you via searching for keywords on YouTube. Remember, YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, right after Google. And you know What? Google owns YouTube. So even when you Google keywords on Google, your videos may show up. If your SEO is on point, knowing how to write your descriptions to optimize for SEO is important. It does take time and you should take time. To learn this, I recommend a course that our team took called YouTube for Bloggers by a friend of the show mangiovanissi. It's $297. It's well, well worth it. And it's not just for bloggers. It's for anybody who wants to start a YouTube channel. It's pretty thorough and the SEO portion is pretty simple to follow, but effective. You can check out the course at.

A lot of people didn't focus on this for a very long time, but recently this is becoming more and more important in getting subscribers to your channel. And that's your actual YouTube page. Spending time creating a beautiful page that YouTube gives you so that when people go to your page to subscribe, they clearly understand what they're subscribing to, but also are inclined to subscribe. This means creating a beautiful looking banner for your YouTube channel, having a good description, creating a trailer video so people know exactly what your YouTube channel is all about and why they should subscribe, as well as information about you and how to contact you. Every time you want to subscribe to your channel, you often have to go to the actual channel page. This is often the case, especially if people are watching YouTube on a smart TV. You can't easily just subscribe right from the video. Now the good news is again, this is easy. Canva is your friend. Go to canva.com, you can create your YouTube banner for your YouTube channel easily. A good example of a great YouTube banner and channel setup is TK Kotter. Now TK is a new channel, but he's doing a lot of great things. He's got 40,000 subscribers and his niche is helping people grow their SaaS business. If you look at his YouTube channel, his banner is gorgeous. It's got a picture of him and a bunch of the thumbnails from his videos. But also on the banner itself, it talks about what to expect from the show or from the channel. It says guiding you in scaling your SaaS startup and it says new episodes every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday so people know what to expect when a new episode drops. Like I mentioned, on your channel you have an about section where you can fill out information about who you are and the channel. This is also fantastic for SEO. You know you can pop in information that people would normally search for about you and your topic and this will help you rank for those topics. There's a place where you can create playlists of videos so if you have different topics or subjects inside your niche, you can create playlists around those topics or subjects. This makes it easy for new subscribers to start watching videos that maybe are appealing to them by the topic. Remember, when people watch one video of yours, they're going to want to look at your channel and see what else you got. These playlists can help you get you more views on videos and get people to start to fall in love with your content. This is why your YouTube channel itself and all the info on this page is so important. Well, there you have it. Those are my five steps of launching a YouTube channel in 2023. It's not too late. In fact, YouTube has improved incredibly over the years. There's so many tools for the creator now to create an incredible channel. There's all these studio features and video editing and publishing. It's a brave new world. And that's why we launched our YouTube channel for our software webinar Ninja and been publishing a new video every single month. If you want to check it out, go to YouTube.com ebinarninja and you can see examples of everything I taught today implemented on our channel. Thank you so much for listening to the $100BA Show. Just hit those triple dots in the top right hand corner and click Follow. So you get our next episodes automatically as well as access to our archived episodes over 2200 business lessons before I go, I want to leave you with this. You may want to start a YouTube channel, but you're not really sure if you want to be on camera. Maybe you don't feel comfortable in front of the camera. You have options. You don't have to be the talent. You can have other people do the video for you. You can use animation. You can do a voiceover over slides. There's so many channels succeeding out there even without a face to the brand. So get creative and get started. Thanks so much and I'll check you in tomorrow's episode. Q and A Wednesday. I'll see you then. Take care. Gas, snacks, tolls. This trip is draining my wallet.
