Heyo. Welcome to the $100 MBA show Business Insights you can count on every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of Webinar Ninja, an independent software company I started.
With my co founder back in 2014.
And in today's lesson you will learn why three is the magic number in business sales pages, emails, tweets, explaining a feature, explaining a concept on a webinar, your pricing pages, your offer, the bonuses in your offer. It doesn't really matter. Three is the magic number. And I'm going to explain why in today's lesson.
For years a lot of people would.
Ask me, why do you do everything in threes?
And because the explanation would take me.
A little bit too long, I would just say, trust me, it works. But I'm going to take the time to explain why you should be doing things in threes. In everything you do in your business.
There'S a big reason why.
And it has a lot to do with human psychology. The way we learn, the way we retain information, as well as preventing confusion. I'm going to show you how in every aspect of your business, whether you're creating an ad or an offer or an email, why you should use the Golden Rule of threes to make sure your message is clear, compelling and remembered. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. The Three Little Pigs. The three Wise Men. Three Magic wishes granted from a genie. These are common stories we know as kids. I can go on and on, but.
A lot of the stories and concepts.
That we know as children are based in threes.
And it's for good reason.
We can't hold that many ideas in our head at once.
I learned this as an educator, as a teacher. I was a high school teacher for 13 years.
I taught five classes a day for five days a week. And one of the things I learned.
As a teacher is in order for me to make sure my students pick.
Up a skill, actually learn something so they can be able to produce it for themselves, they need to one, understand the concept.
But two, they need to be able to retain it. And the reason why 3 is such.
A beautiful number when it comes to communication learning, sales is that it does both of them brilliantly.
You see, when there's too many things.
That work together for them to understand or compare to, it's hard for them to grasp the concept.
Now, this is applicable to anything you.
Do, whether you're teaching a workshop or a course, or even trying to convince a buyer on a sales page that.
Your product is best, or even explaining what your product does. Three keeps it simple and makes it.
Easy for them to understand, but it.
Also makes it easy for them to remember.
Nicole, my wife and business partner.
She often comes back from a yoga.
Class and shares a story that the yoga teacher will share in class. It'll be a tradition that was passed on to her as the yoga teacher from her guru.
And often the story would be in threes.
Three learnings, three takeaways, three wisdoms.
So let's not reinvent the wheel.
Let's use what works. I always say business is as hard as it is. Let's not make it hard on ourselves.
Let's make it easier. Let's use what works best for our customers.
So whatever you're doing in your business, how can you break it down in threes?
This is especially important when you're selling. Why?
Because I love this concept because it's so true. And that is a confused mind never buys. When somebody's confused on your sales page, on your sales webinar, in a sales call, whatever it is, they're not going to buy if it's not clear, if it's not a no brainer, if they can't quickly equate the value, it's hard.
For them to say yes because they're confused.
If there's too many choices, this causes confusion and causes them to hesitate.
If there's too many things for them.
To consider or to think about, hey, is this worth my money? Including, like, let's say Bonuses or extras you give with the product, it makes them pause, it makes them have to do calculations and think about it. This is not moving towards the action of buying. It's actually making them hesitate because the value is not immediately clear.
They might buy eventually, but there's going to be a whole bunch of people.
Left behind because they got stuck in confusion.
So I want to give you some.
Examples of why I think three is the magic number with everything you do in business. When I teach a webinar and I've run over 500 webinars in my career, whatever the title of the webinar is, that's my promise. That's the outcome that I expected to give my attendees.
I need to reverse engineer that outcome.
Into three steps or three phases so that they can achieve that outcome.
For example, I taught a workshop on.
How to create a 10k a month live course. A live course that helps you generate $10,000 a month.
And I broke it down into three parts or three steps and that's create, sell and deliver.
I know I can deliver that outcome.
If I cover these three important steps.
And they're basically like the arc of a story, a three act play.
What are the three acts you need.
To have to get to your destination?
Let's go to your website. Let's say you're trying to explain what your product does, what your service does. Break it down into three steps. What is experience they're going to go.
Through when they consume your product or service?
Let's take a very simple example. Let's say you are a hair salon. Here are the three steps. Book an appointment, come in for your haircut. I'll cut your hair. Third step.
Pay and enjoy a great haircut for the next two weeks, whatever it might be.
There you go. It's clearly laid out for them what.
To expect and the experience.
They know what they're getting. We just launched a new sister product.
At webinar Ninja called Course Ninja. Over at Course Ninja Co and I.
Break down exactly in three steps what Course Ninja is all about.
You can create your life course, sell.
Your life course and deliver your life.
Course all with one tool.
When it comes to your pricing page, I love the idea of three tiers.
Why?
Because I've tested a whole bunch and three is the magic number.
You have the starter plan, you have the mid level. It's usually the most popular plan where it's not totally beginner, but it has a lot of the features that they want. Then you have the pro plan or like the top plan for Those who.
Are serious users, and it gives them.
Something to grow into and something to compare the middle plan to.
You see, when there are only two tiers, you really can't leverage the price.
Or show the value of any of the other tiers. It's just one against the other.
Three allows you to stack value and show value of each tier.
So if you're ever in doubt when it comes to communicating any concept or selling anything, or even creating content that's free, like videos and blog posts and social media snippets, three is the way to go.

In one of the James Bond movies, the villain delivers a great line about suspicious activity. He says, once is happenstance. Twice is a coincidence. The third time is enemy action. You see, we don't believe anything repeats three times by accident.
It feels deliberate.
It feels intentional.
And that's why we pay attention.
In fact, even on a subconscious level, I once learned that a fly will only become annoying to somebody after the third time it flies on somebody's face.
The first time, they're kind of like.
Whatever, it's just a fly. The second time you're like, okay, whatever. The third time they're like, get this fly out of my face. They can't help but pay attention and do something about it.
And that's why three is so important.
We're hardwired to pay attention when something's in threes, and this is important when you're trying to drill Home, an idea.
A concept, or even a branding message. What is a core message about your.
Business that you can repeat three times to get somebody's attention, whether it's in a video script, whether it's in a blog post, or even on a sales page. And by the way, one of my favorite three things structure are jokes. And these are great to use in your copy, in your videos, even in person, friends or at conferences. A joke structure is three parts. One is the setup where you set up the joke. You give all the necessary background information so the joke is set up.
Part two is the punchline.
This is the big laugh line. This is when the other shoe falls and everybody kind of laughs at the joke. This is often the place where it's funny because there's a twist or an unexpected element to the story or joke. And the third part of a joke are known as tags.
These are the toppers.
These are kind of like additional punchlines that use the setup and the punchline to make additional jokes usually stand up. Comedians will kind of say toppers under their breath or kind of in a low voice and they're just as funny as the first punchline. Really great comedians come up with several tags after the punchline. You can use this magical three things structure for your own jokes when you are trying to be funny. There you have it. This is why I am a big believer that 3 is the magic number in business. And you should keep this in your back pocket at all times. It's a lifesaver when you're trying to write copy, write a convincing sales letter, an engaging email, or even a little social media tweet or caption.

The reason why I love the three act structure, or the three things like I call them, is because it's a classic. It hasn't changed for centuries, and therefore it's stronger than ever.
It's ingrained in our society, it's ingrained in our minds. It's what we're used to. I don't have to teach this to.
Somebody when I deliver it. They just get it. It's familiar, it's comforting and it's easy. And that's what we want it to be, easy for people to get. Thanks so much for listening and I'll.
