Hey, welcome to the $100 NBA show. No fluff, just the good stuff every single day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teach, Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of Webinar Ninja, an independent software company. I started my co founder back in 2014 and today's episode is Q and A Wednesday. On Q and A Wednesdays we answer a question from one of you, one of our listeners. If you got a question you want to ask, just go ahead and email me over@omar100mba.net Today's question is from Lance and Lance asks, hey Omar, I'm new to marketing and entrepreneurship in general. It's just been my first year. I used to be an IT technician but now I have started my own web hosting company. My question is do I need to brag to be an effective marketer? What I mean is some of my more markety friends seem to be so confident and talk so confidently about what they've done and what they've accomplished and who they are. To me it just sounds like bragging, but do I need to brag to market my products and services? It just feels so uncomfortable for me. Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Lance. Lance, this is a fantastic question because this is something that bothered me a lot. For years I never felt comfortable talking about myself, my accomplishments, how good I am. But then I thought, how am I going to get the word out? How are people going to know that I'm good, that I'm worth their Hard earned dollars. Then my mindset shifted. A friend of mine gave me a piece of advice that helped me a ton and I want to pass it on to you. I'm going to show you how you can market and sell your business and even sell what you do and who you are without being braggadocious. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. I'm the first one to feel cringy when I see somebody that's obnoxiously arrogant. It's a huge turnoff. And in fact, sometimes I question that person's self esteem when they're constantly talking about themselves. But what about a business? What about a brand? What about you as the leader of this business? Should you be tooting your own horn? How will anybody know that you're good enough? Well, I was asking this question for years. Then a friend of mine, Michael Port, New York Times best selling author, should check out his books. Steal the show, book yourself. Solid. The Think Big Manifesto. Michael told me, when somebody looks at your business, your products, your services, they don't want to see bragging, but they.
Do want to see evidence.
You need to prove to people in your marketing that you're the right choice. So he told me to approach it like a lawyer In a courtroom. Lawyers have to prove that their client is right, right, they're innocent, that they should win the case. And they do this by presenting evidence, by presenting strong arguments. They're not bragging about this person, they're making a case. And this is a great way to look at things. And what this does is that it changes the way you market. It changes the way you talk about what you do. So instead of talking about me, me, me, I'm great, I'm awesome, look at how cool I am. You say, this is what I've been able to do for others. These are the results of my clients. This is what other people say. This is the success that people have had. This is the success that we have had as the business. There's a big difference between that and showing off Lambos and Rolexes and all that obnoxious stuff we see on Instagram and on Twitter and all that stuff, that's just noise. What people really want to know is can you deliver? Can you do what you say you do? Can you deliver on your promise? And if you can show people how you've done it and how you can do it for them, just like a lawyer proving their case, that's enough for them to say, this is worth me putting some money down to See what happens. This is brilliant advice that I cherish to this day because it helps me navigate the waters of marketing. Let me give you a few examples. I just recorded an automated webinar for webinar Ninja, and I created this so that anybody at any time can watch a full demo of webinar Ninja if they can't make our live webinars. If you're interested and want to check it out, it's webinar ninja.com automated webinar. Now, in this webinar, I show people around webinar Ninja the features, what it could do for them, but. But I also show them the results. It has been able to help people get that use webinar. Our own clients, our own users. I give case studies. I show the success they've had with webinars in growing their business. This is very powerful because they're able to see themselves in other people, in clients that you already have. So instead of me just saying, I'm amazing, look how cool I am. Look at where I live. Look at my car. Look at this thing, look at that thing. That's just stupid. I'm really sorry to say that, but that just to me is very shallow because the point of the business is not to help me become successful. The point of the business to help others become successful. And if I can show that I've done that, that inspires people's confidence. And yes, I understand that at some level, some people do fall for that. They do see all that glamour, and people think, oh, they must be successful. They must be doing something right if they have all these riches and they're showing off all these amazing things and this amazing lifestyle. But it might have an effect in the moment, but it won't last long. Meaning facts, evidence, just like a lawyer, is hard to ignore. It's hard to forget. Showing data, showing case studies showing how people have won with you and your programs, your products, your services, is really powerful. So instead of me being the hero, my clients are the heroes. I make them the spotlight. And if you want to check it out in that automated webinar, you can see how I do that. And instead of tooting my own horn, I actually insert a video of customers talking about what they love about webinar ninjas so they can see for themselves. Customers just like them, in their own words, what they love about it and why their users, why they made that choice, because they're in a situation right now where they're evaluating, should I buy or should I not buy? And hearing from somebody who's on the other side of the fence is incredibly helpful to them as a buyer. So there's no need to toot your own horn. There's no need to be obnoxious and be annoying. There's no need to do all that. You could just be yourself and focus on the evidence. Focus on what you can do for your customers and what you've done already for your customers.
Let me tell you about Intuit QuickBooks. When I was starting out my business, I remember sitting at my desk late at night not working on my business but cleaning up numbers, tracking and reconciling payments and wondering how this became my life. But once I automated the admin side of things, of my finances, those nights had disappeared and I felt a whole lot better. Outdo it with Intuit QuickBooks. QuickBooks is the trusted end to end solution that businesses rely on for getting paid, managing finances, paying employees, finding new customers, and more. QuickBooks provides a team of AI agents and trusted experts, so doing it yourself no longer means doing it alone. Their payment agent gets you paid faster, their customer agent finds leads, follows up and secures more sales, and the accounting agent automates and categorizes transactions. Get your critical business jobs done with QuickBooks on the Intuit platform.

Ba da ba ba ba.
To wrap up today's lesson, I want to point out a few things. Number one, this doesn't mean you don't tell your own story. It's important to tell your own story because it's inspiring and you can do this in a humble way. How you got to where you are today, your founder story, your backstory. It doesn't have to be long winded. It could be two, three minutes. A lot of people resonate to the fact that I'm a schoolteacher. I was in a 9 to 5 job for 13 years and then I moved to full time entrepreneurship. I share with them the struggles I had, that it wasn't easy and how I got to where I am today. But then I intertwine that with I got here because I helped others and this is what I did to help others. And I want to help you today with my offer. My product my service. The other thing I want to point out is it's okay to have other people say good things about you, but just don't say it about yourself. That looks braggadocious. But when other people give testimonials and other people have messages of kindness and praise, whether it's video or text, this doesn't look obnoxious. This looks like evidence. It's like a star witness right in a courtroom. And just like in a courtroom, it's compelling. When somebody else says something about you, it's a whole lot stronger than you saying it about yourself. Thanks so much Lance for that amazing question on the Q and A Wednesday. Before I go, I want to leave you with this. Get in the habit of collecting evidence, meaning collecting testimonials. Anytime somebody buys anything from you, ask them for a review or a testimonial. Automate this. Create an automated sequence in your email whenever it becomes a customer, wait maybe two weeks and say hey. Would love a few words. You can have them reply to the email, make it simple. Or you can have them fill out a Google form where they can answer a few quick questions and give an open ended testimonial. This ensures you have the evidence you need to market like a pro. Thanks so much for listening and I'll check you in tomorrow's episode. I'll see you then.
Take care.
