I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar MB, a complete business training and community online over at 100mba.net and in today's lesson you will learn why you don't need to love everything about your business. Many of us have tough days. We have challenging days. We get up in the morning and we just don't feel like doing what we have to do that day. It doesn't mean that your business is not right for you. It doesn't mean that your business doesn't go along with your lifestyle. It it just means you're doing challenging stuff, which is a good thing. Now I'm talking about once in a while. If you're waking up every morning feeling that way, we have a problem. But there's gonna be certain things in your business that you're just not gonna love and that's completely normal. What is important is prioritizing why you're doing the business. How can we overcome these feelings of ugh, I don't wanna do this and understand that there are things in our business that are just not fun. But we gotta do them. We're gonna conquer these challenges in today's episode. So let's get into it. Let's business Full Disclosure I have a to do list that I look at at the start of every day. It's an Excel sheet and on that Excel sheet there are things that I just don't want to do. They're not fun, they're not sexy. They don't have me jumping for joy. Am I concerned? No, of course not. There are things that I'm just not going to like and there's going to be things that you're not going to like that you just got to get done. There are a lot of entrepreneurs at Write to us that are in our community that struggle with this, that say, hey, hey. There are a few things that sometimes I just don't want to do. This doesn't mean this business is not right for me, that I'm not passionate about it. You can't be passionate about every little thing about your business. Some of it is going to be work. You got to just roll up your sleeves and do it. And the best way to get it done is to focus on why you're doing this business. What's your why? Are you doing it for more time with your family? Are you doing it so you can have more financial freedom? Are you doing it because you love to travel and this allows you to travel the world? Are you doing it because you love the product you're putting out in the world and you really want to see it actually help other people? When you focus on your big why, it really allows you to say, you know what, that's my priority. I got to get that done. I got to make sure I get through this hump. Not every single thing and every single task you have to do in your business is going to be fun or motivating or gets you excited every single waking moment of your day. This reminds me of a great story and this story comes from the book Grit by Angela Duckworth. I did a must read episode on this book. Episode number 849. NBA 849. You can check that out at100nba.net mba849. So what's the story? Well, Angela Duckworth interviews Rowdy Gaines, who's a three time Olympic gold medalist swimmer. And Angela asks Rowdy, hey, do you love practice? Do you love practicing swimming? And he says, are you asking me if I like getting up at 4am in the morning to jump in a cold pool and swim for four hours and see nothing but a black line at the bottom of the pool. Push myself to the brink of all my physical abilities, have my lungs pretty much bursting out of my chest because I'm breathing so hard swimming till my arms fall off? No, I do not love that. But I love being an Olympic gold medal winning swimmer and this really drives a Point home, he's got to do some things he does not enjoy if he wants to be where he wants to be. He says, I have a passion for the whole sport, not every little thing that's in the sport. And I love that line because it's so true. Even as an entrepreneur, there are things inside the job as an entrepreneur that you have to do that are not so fun. They can be finances you might not love, you know, salesmanship, or you might not love writing emails. Whatever it is, there might be some aspect of your job as an entrepreneur, as a business owner, that's not just super fun, but you get up and you do it just like Rowdy did. He got up at 4 in the morning, jumped in the cold pool and swam for four hours. His arms fell off, right? Because his priority is being a champion. And here's the reality. If we just stop doing things as soon as they get tough, as soon as we don't just love them or enjoy every aspect of them, we're not going to get anything done, period. Even things I do for fun, even things that I love to do that have nothing to do with my job as an entrepreneur, there are things that I don't like, but I do them because I enjoy the whole thing. Like, I love traveling, right? But sometimes there's inconveniences in travel, whether it's crowded airports or having to get up really early to catch a flight, or delayed flights for that matter. I don't just stop traveling because these things happen. I accept them. I say, hey, I'll take the sour with the sweet so I can enjoy the whole thing. And that's the perspective you have to have when it comes to your business. Now, when it comes to doing these things, there are things on your to do list that you have to do that you don't want to do. I personally like to do them first, like to get them out of the way so I can enjoy the rest of the day working on things that I really enjoy, things that inspire me, things that. This makes the whole day easier, to just utilize the first hour or two of the day to get those things out of the way. And the funny thing is, is that once you start with those tasks, once you start doing them, they don't seem so bad once you get going. And once they're over, you're like, wow, they're done. That wasn't so bad. And it motivates you for the next time you have to do something that is not super fun. Hey, I have friends that come up to me and say, I envy your business. It's so cool. My business is not that cool. And I say, what are you talking about? Your business is extremely profitable. You're helping other people. It's a great product. It doesn't have to be the next Facebook. It doesn't have to be Instagram or Snapchat or anything like that. It just has to be something that helps people. No matter how boring it is sometimes between entrepreneurs, we have FOMO fear of missing out on an opportunity or something fun or cool or sexy. But some of the best businesses, most successful businesses out there, are none of the above. They're straightforward businesses that we all need. I used to feel that way when I was a teacher, when I was a high school university teacher. It wasn't a glamorous job, but hey, people need education, the cornerstone of life. Without teachers, without education, we're really in trouble. Sometimes the boring stuff is what's most important, another reason to get it out of the way and get it done first. Now, like I mentioned at the top of the episode, if the vast majority of things that you're doing are unappealing to you, things that you don't want to do that are just not up your alley, you may want to reevaluate your business, reevaluate what you're doing, reevaluate how you want to live your life and if it fits in your lifestyle. But I have to tell you, I've been doing business for a long time, and almost on a daily basis, I'm doing something that I just don't enjoy. But that's okay, because I know I'm paying the price. I'm paying a tax, so I can be able to get what I want out of the business, what I want to get out of life. Now, if there were 20 things I had to do every single day, every time I did my work for my business, I would really need to rethink things. And remember, just because it's challenging doesn't mean that it's boring. Challenge means you're stretching yourself. That's a good thing. It means that you're pushing yourself to an uncomfortable place. A good example is the gym. After this recording of this episode, I gotta go to the gym. And some days I just don't feel like going because, you know, I'm tired. Maybe I didn't get much sleep the other night. I'm not really motivated, but I know I have to put in the work to stay healthy, to get what I want. Health. And going along with this metaphor, I like to do things to motivate me to do those hard things. And that can be just as simple as listening to some great music while you're doing it. I'm not even just talking about, you know, the gym right now. I'm talking about the work for your business that you don't want to do. Maybe you have to do some finances, and that's a little boring. Put on some nice music, make it a little bit more enjoyable. You get the point.

To wrap up today's lesson, I'm here to tell you it's not normal for you to love every single aspect of your business, every single minute of you working on it. There are gonna be many times where you're just gonna do things you just don't like. I'm here to say, face them head on, get them done quickly, and get in the habit of just shrugging it off and be like, you know what? Yeah, it kind of sucks to do this, but I'm just gonna do it right now, get it over with, and I'll just focus on why I'm doing this. Want to build an amazing business so I can do so and so. So I can provide great value so I can live a life that I've always wanted. Or it could be something simple like afford that car I always wanted. There's nothing wrong with rewarding yourself for your efforts. All right, that wraps up today's lesson. Thank you so much for listening. We'd love to hear what you think of the show. Alright, that's it for me today guys. But before I go, I want to leave you with this. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, this is something I really learned the hard way. You have to train yourself to motivate yourself. You have to find your why. You have to find a way to get yourself to move into action and do things. If you constantly rely on external motivation on doing things when you feel like it, when you feel motivated or, you know, inspired, you're never going to get anything done. You're never going to stay ahead of the game. You have to train yourself to motivate yourself when you need to. When you have to do the hard stuff, focusing on your why, focusing on your big picture and that's an ultimate skill. That's an incredible skill you should have as an entrepreneur and cultivate it as you grow. Alright, that's it for me today guys. I'll check you in tomorrow's episode where we discuss does free content still work? Does content marketing still have the same impact as it did a few years ago? We get into it in tomorrow's episode. I'll check you then. Take care. Of. We heard you.
