Welcome to the Hundred Dollar MBA show, the business podcast where you know you'll get what you need in about 10 minutes every day with our daily 10 minute business lessons for the real world. I'm your host, your coach, your teacher Omar Zenholm. I'm also the co founder of the Hundred Dollar mba, a complete business training and community online. In today's episode you will learn the biggest lie in business, how not to fall for this lie and not get involved in it yourself. It seems like every day I see some sort of YouTube ad or some Sort of landing page or sales pitch about how to have a passive income business, how you can make money while doing very little, where you can set it and forget it, where you can basically spend a few minutes every week and your business is on autopilot. So many people are promising this dream of a completely passive business where the business just runs itself. They mask it in different forms. Whether it's an Amazon store, an online course, it's masked in different ways. But I'm here to tell you this is the biggest lie in business. It's so prevalent. I want to make sure that you do not fall into this trap. There is no such thing as some business that you do very little work and make millions of dollars. Those screenshots of bank statements and PayPal payments, big lies. I'm going to break down why this is a lie, why this is not possible, what is in fact possible, what is a true passive income type of business, and how to steer clear from all these gimmicks that try to push this promise. I'm gonna roll up my sleeves in this episode because this one's going straight for the jugular for the truth. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Often this lie is shown in some sort of advertisement or video of somebody in some sort of exotic car or in front of a mansion or overlooks some beautiful coastline. And the bottom line, what they're trying to communicate in this message is that all of this could be yours. And if you follow my system, if you do what I tell you, if you build your business this way, you're going to work, you know, a few minutes a day and you're going to be all good and you'll be happy. You'll travel the world and all you're going to be doing is, you know, finding time to spend your money. This is ridiculous. There is no business on planet earth that you can just set and forget and not do anything. Even if you have a business that runs on passive income, whether that's affiliate income, referral income, AdSense, you need to keep that website up and running. You got to have fresh content. You got. You gotta write content. If you don't do it, you have to hire somebody. And those people are just not gonna work with no direction. They need management. You need to put work into your business for it to succeed, for it to survive. And there's nothing wrong with that. And it doesn't mean you have to be working day and night, you know, 16 hours a day, but it does mean you can't work five minutes a week. And a lot of people push this idea where you could just set up a shopify store or use Amazon dropship or all these different business models where you can just set it all up and that's it. People are going to be knocking on your door to buy your products and services. Of course not. You need to market your business, you need to sell, you need to have a process, you have to have customer service follow up. If you're an entrepreneur, chances are you're not a lazy person. You're somebody who is happy to work on a business. So why would somebody actually say this market their program in this way? Well, because they're preying on people that are not entrepreneurs, people that are looking for easy money really. And we all know that's not really possible. You get what you put into it and what happens is they sign up for their course, they sign up for their program, or they sign up for their business in a box or whatever. People don't follow through because hey, they know they're not hard working. The type of person that you know would do something like that or sign up for a course is not going to follow through. And they're not going to blame them. They're going to blame themselves because they didn't fall through. And that's their whole business model is just lying to people, showing them a carrot, showing them a shiny object, showing them, hey, you can have all these riches and all these mansions and these beautiful cars if you just follow my system. It's not going to take too much work. It's super simple. Anybody can do it. Then why are people struggling financially? Why are there people that struggle financially? Why are there people that have a tough time? Why do people, you know, stay in a job that they can't stand? This is so easy. Of course not. It's not easy. Business is hard. I personally believe most people don't become entrepreneurs, don't start a business because how hard it is, it's such a grind. I'm not trying to discourage you here, but it's a lot easier and safer to have a 9 to 5 job. That's just the truth. You walk into your job, they tell you what to do, you just follow orders and you get a paycheck. You don't have that luxury when you're an entrepreneur. You have to build the system. You got to find a way to find that money and make sure that people actually buy what you offer. You offer something they actually want so they can buy it. It's a lot of work. It's a lot of sacrifice. And if somebody's not telling you that, they're lying to you. Again, I'm not saying this to discourage you. There's so much satisfaction in becoming an entrepreneur and putting in the hard work and reaping the benefits. And yes, you can build a business with a great foundation and hire a great team and a great manager to run it, but that takes time and effort and lots of hours in investment. And eventually, years after you do all that, maybe you can kick it back a few notches and be semi retired. But you still got to look after your business, check in with your managers, check in with the people that are running it. You have to innovate. You have to improve. Because, hey, the competition is not going to sit on its laurels. Things change. You got to stay up to date. But there's no business that you can start and put a few hours a week, and then within weeks, you're making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month, as some of these programs claim. And they show you These screenshots of PayPal accounts and bank accounts. Anybody that does that is lying to you. They're trying to deceive you. Their own program doesn't stand on its own two feet. So they have to create some sort of illusion and show you these fancy numbers and highlighters and blah, blah, blah. Do not fall for this lie. It could be easy when you just want to get something started and you want somebody to just show you step by step. When somebody tells you it's easy, and hey, this is super simple. Look at this. 1, 2, 3, 4. If anybody tells you building a business is easy, just turn the other way. It's not easy. Of course it's not easy. Nothing that is worth anything is easy. That's like saying becoming a doctor is easy. That's like saying becoming a lawyer is easy. That's like saying becoming a carpenter is easy. Of course it's not easy. You have to learn. You have to struggle. You have to, you know, make mistakes. You have to learn from those mistakes. In any profession, why would being an entrepreneur be any different? So if this is the lie, the biggest lie in business, what's the truth? Here's the truth. Just like becoming a doctor, it takes time to be great at what you do. If you want to have a great business and be a great entrepreneur, it's going to take some time. You're not going to be able to do this instantly. You got to learn. You got to figure it out. You got to understand what kind of entrepreneur you're going to be. It may take a few years, it may take more than a few years. It may take a decade. Hey, it takes a decade for somebody to become a doctor, right? Nearly a decade. So it's not really such a bad bargain. It's a good trade off, really. The truth is, is that you're going to have struggles, you're going to have challenges, you're going to doubt yourself from time to time. You're going to put in a lot of hours, you're going to sacrifice, you're going to miss out on the things that you used to do that were really fun. But nothing gets invested for no reason. Nothing is wasted. You're going to get it back in success in the business you build, in the person you become. In that, you can end your day and say, I'm building something that's significant. That's something that I am proud of. I'm proud of who I am, and I have the freedom to do it the way I want to do it. That's the truth. The truth is, anything worth something in life takes time, takes effort, takes work, takes sacrifice. That's just a principle in life. So when somebody breaks that principle, you know it's a lie. Yes, sometimes things are easier than other things. And yes, it's easier when you have some sort of plan or somebody walks you through it. That's why you try to educate yourself, that's why you listen to this podcast. But it still takes effort. I can give you advice, I can give you strategies, I can give you techniques, but you have to put those techniques in place. And that takes work, that takes time. Until AI and machine learning and automation is in full swing and you have your own personal robot to do all your work for you, you're going to need to do it okay, and that's okay. That's where the glory is. That's where it's fun. That's where you learn. This is where you grow. You know, when I look back at my career as an entrepreneur, I look back at the struggles and I look at it and I say, wow, those were some great days. Those are some days, you know, solving those problems. It was a struggle. It wasn't easy. But those are the things you remember. Those are things that you, you know, find joy in and find yourself being proud of. Anybody that pitches you something that says minimum work, very little work, and you get maximum results, you're going to make as much money as somebody who's been doing a business for 20 years. In a few months because you're going to follow my program. That's a charlatan. That's somebody who's trying to hoodwink you, trying to trick you. Doesn't make any sense. Now, not only is this a lie and you shouldn't fall for it, but you shouldn't be a part of this lie. I'm very careful when I promote my products and services not to really over promise, not to really over exaggerate its benefits. And make sure people understand that it's going to take some effort on their part in order for this to be successful. People will respect you for it. People will trust you for it, will trust you more. And it protects you. It makes sure that when people buy, they know what they're getting. I know I got kind of riled up in today's episode, but this is important stuff. I wanted to make sure that everybody's informed.

Dang it.
Fortunately, by switching to Geico, you could save about $900 on car insurance without ever touching a coupon.
It feels good to save big.
It feels good to Geico. To wrap up today's lesson, the only real passive income model or business model there is is, is an investment, really. And it's not really passive income. It's not cash flow. You're investing in a company, you're investing in a stock, and at some point you're going to cash out on your investment. But it's not like you're getting dividends. You're not getting a profit every month. You're not getting a check in the mail from that investment. But that's not really building a business. That's investing in somebody else's business. And I would really, really be educated about that business before investing in it. I would really get myself educated on investing in general. But these people that are flashing, you know you're gonna make a hundred thousand dollars every month in your PayPal account. Just follow my steps, just follow my program. Just check out how you can set up your Amazon store this way. They're everywhere. And they're lying. Okay? The beauty of the Internet, that it's open and it's free, but it's also one of the things we gotta watch out for. People say whatever they want and they can claim whatever they want. You have to be on your guard. You gotta make sure you're not falling for these lies as well as don't be a part of these lies. Don't be the person that promises these things, you know that are not true in whatever market, in whatever business, in whatever you sell. All right, that wraps up today's lesson. But today's episode's not over because it's free ride Friday. I gotta let you know who won this week's free ride. And this week's winner of free ride Friday is Granite 1111. But before I go, I want to leave you with this. When you're building your own business, when you're building your own thing, the hard work is so much fun. You get to create things out of thin air. You get to build something of your own. Don't let somebody rob you of that experience of that process. If somebody says it's easy and says you're going to make hundreds of thousands of dollars, thousand dollars a day with my program, just turn the other way. You know it's not possible. You get what you put into it. And yes, it's a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. All right, I'll check you in the next episode, which is Monday's guest teacher episode. We have Russ Stoddard who's going to be teaching you how to build a purpose driven business. You're going to love it. I'll see you on Monday. I'll check you then. Take care. Of foreign.
