2 Feb 2026 · 9 min
Podcast episode hosted by Omar Zenhom (co‑founder of The $100 MBA) teaching four "untapped" website traffic strategies: (1) implement a referral or affiliate program to incentivize existing customers/subscribers to share; (2) write and self-publish a short book/eBook (e.g., via Amazon/Kindle) to reach readers who don’t read blogs; (3) find outdated roundup or resource articles in your niche and offer updated copy so the owner will add your contribution and backlink you (credited to Brian Dean/Backlinko); and (4) perform cross guest-posting with sites of similar traffic (use SimilarWeb to find candidates) to exchange posts and links. Episode includes ad reads (Dell Tech Day, Sierra, 1-800-flowers, Capella) and closing CTAs (subscribe, iTunes review contest).

Omar I'm also the co founder of the $100 MBA, a complete business training and community online over at 100mba.net and in today's lesson, you will learn four untapped traffic strategies. If you're looking for new ways to drive traffic to your website, then this episode is for you, which is pretty much all of us, right? When you're working hard, when you're trying to market your business and your website, sometimes you need a fresh perspective, sometimes you need fresh ideas to, to be able to be competitive. So these are for ways that people haven't really saturated yet. So if you get started now, you can have a competitive advantage. Now I must say that these strategies require some work, but it's definitely worth it because it's going to bring more awareness to what you do and your website. Let's get into it. Let's get down to business. We all want more traffic to our website because obviously with more traffic we have more chances of converting people into customers. But how do we do that in an oversaturated market? In a market that everybody's trying to do the old tricks of SEO or Facebook marketing to drive traffic. Well, here are four ways that you may have not thought of. Four ways that are pretty much untapped these days. People haven't really oversaturated them yet. So put these into action now so you can have a jump on the competition. All right, let's start with number one strategy number one, and that's having a referral or affiliate program. There's a lot of different software out there. You can just do a Google search to run an affiliate program or referral program. What this does is that you tell your visitor or your customer or your subscriber or whatever, hey, if you refer somebody to my website and they sign up, you get something, they're incentivized to share your website. A common referral program is when you get three referrals. You get a free month of whatever product you have, or you can give them something for free for every referral, whether that's credit, like store credit for your ecommerce store or free shipping or whatever. The point here is that you're allowing other people to help market your website and you're incentivizing them to do that. A lot of people do not have affiliate or referral programs on their site. And you can do this even if you're not actually asking them to refer you to a sale. You can just get them to refer to your newsletter, sign up for a free course, and you can give them something in exchange. Again, people work on incentives. So by having this on your website, you can you incentivize people to do the marketing for you. And these people are going to be great because you're evangelists, people that are on your website already, they're already sold on what you do and they're going to drive traffic on your behalf. I love this idea, this traffic strategy, because it's just a simple thing that you have to install on your website and implement. And once it's set up, it's all gravy. People can just go and refer and they can get their incentives. Now if you have an E commerce store and you want to have a referral program of some sort of there's an app called Gather and you go to gathercustomers. Com. My buddy is the founder of this company and it's a really nifty app to make this simple for you. If you want a full fledged affiliate program for your products or services, I would check out IDEV Affiliate. It's pretty cool. We use it for webinar Ninja. We think it's really, really robust. It does take time to set up, but it's very powerful. All right, let's jump into strategy number two. Now, we all know that people love great blog articles and it works really well with SEO. If you really go to town and write a great article, people share it, it shows up on search engines. It's a great medium. But not everybody reads blogs. In fact, a lot of people still love just to read books to get their knowledge. If you ask around, if you ask your friends and family, they'll tell you they don't do a lot of reading on blogs. Most of the reading they do is probably book format, whether it's on Kindle or a physical book. So those people are really untapped. They're really not finding you via a Google search. So one strategy is to write a book. Yeah, be an author. And self publishing couldn't be easier. Now with Amazon, super simple now to self publish and you don't have to be a New York Times bestseller. You can write a short book, 100 page book and make it available on Kindle. And with Amazon prime, people have access to Kindle Unlimited so they can easily get your book for free. But if you're going to sell your book, you keep it really low, $3, even $1. The point here is to market, to build trust, to give them great information. And then after they read your book, they're going to want to check you out on your website and you can have calls to action in the book, whether they're downloadables to supplement the book or, or access to a special members area. I know people that write books solely for this purpose because it's a great way to generate traffic and make sales. So writing a book is definitely an option. Hey, if you write long blog posts like I just wrote a blog post, that's 8,000 words, that's an ebook. If I wanted I could take that blog article, convert it into a really full fledged book, put it on Kindle and now I have access to other people that normally wouldn't find me. So writing a book is one of the oldest ways to build your audience and to be a thought leader. But people have forgotten about it. So go back to the basics with writing a book. Now my third strategy, I have to give credit to Brian Dean, The King of SEO over@backlinko.com he gave me this tip and I think it's really a great tip. What you do is you search articles on Google that are dealing with your area of expertise. So say for example, you are a travel expert and your specialty is budget travel. So what you do is you Google budget travel and, and you take a look at all the different articles that are there. Now. A lot of these articles will be roundup posts, posts of opinions of different experts of how to save money on travel. They'll quote these experts, they'll backlink to their site. And some of these older blog posts are a little bit out of date. So what you could do is you contact the owners of these blogs and you just go to the contact page and you email them and say, hey, I'm a travel expert. I specialize in budget travel and I saw your article on such and such. I just did some research. I just went on a trip. I, I just learned the latest thing in our area or on that article and I wanted to give you some updated information. Happy to share that with you. Here it is. Would love for you to mention me and my blog as you update this article. So for example, you can look at the article and be like, hey, by the way, you don't need a visa to Vietnam anymore or something like that. It's just an example you can pay for on arrival. And this comes from travel expert so and so from this blog. So you can help these blog owners with these little inserts that at the same time they're going to backlink to your website and drive traffic to pages and blog posts that are getting some serious traffic through Google. So you're just piggybacking on their traffic so they can post you and your link and people can find you that way. I love this because you're not actually guest posting but what you're doing is you're providing up to date information, you're adding more value to the article and hey, not everybody's going to say yes, but lots will because hey, they want to update their old articles. It's relevant, important information. They will include it. It doesn't cost them any time or anything like that because you're, you're giving them the copy, you're giving them the excerpt that they have to add to the article along with your link. Super simple. I love it. And you can really just bang out as many articles as you can in one afternoon. And you can drastically increase your traffic just by doing that.

Alright, one more untapped traffic tip for you today and this one I call Crossed Guest Posting. With this strategy we what you're going to do is you're going to look at other websites with similar traffic numbers. Could be a little bit more, a little bit less and you're going to approach them. And the way to find out you can go to SimilarWeb.com and at SimilarWeb you're going to get a rough estimate of how much traffic that site gets every month. So say for example you go to similarweb.com and you search your website and you find out that hey, you get 200,000 visitors a month. Take a look at other websites that would be a good fit for you to guest post on. It doesn't have to be an exact fit or you know, in the same market. So for example I guest posted on Digital Photography School. It's all about photography but I taught the business of photography how to get started as a freelance photographer. So you can step out of your marketplace as long as you could be of value to that actual market or to that audience. In fact being sort of an outsider to that audience helps a lot because they get a fresh perspective. So search all the different types of websites that you could think of and you may want to do a Google search on another tab to search different marketplaces, find their websites, find find their traffic on similar web and then approach them and ask hey, I would love to write a guest post on your blog about this topic and you're welcome to guest post on my blog. I see we get similar traffic numbers and I think it would be a great exchange to expose your content to my audience and vice versa. This is a win win and a real no brainer. And at the bottom of your guest post you can just link up to your website. You do this a few times a month you're going to get a whole lot of traffic from other websites. Linking back not only the backlinks are going to help but also be just going to the link going to your website via reading your your guest post and you're also getting great content from great partners in your marketplace for your own blog. And another hidden benefit is that you're making some pretty good relationships in the marketplace. You're meeting people and you're working with other people and you're helping each other out. So there you have it. Four untapped traffic strategies. Number one, an affiliate or referral program. Number two, writing a book. Number three, searching old articles in your marketplace that need updating. And you can be the updater. Fresh content. And number four, crossed guest posting.
