I'm also the co founder of the $100 MBA, a complete business training and community online over at 100mba.net and today is part two of our two part lesson on advanced email list building. If you haven't listened to part one, make sure you hit pause right now and listen to part one of this lesson. Yesterday's episode. This whole lesson will make more sense and be more useful if you listen to part one first. I'll be here waiting for you to hit play again once you listen to part one. If you're all listened up in today's lesson. In part two, we're going to be talking about how to nurture the leads that you worked so hard to convert on your website. How to make sure you are nurturing in the right way. Every lead is different and how do you automate the whole thing so you're not doing this manually? The whole purpose of today's lesson is taking this email list lead and converting them into a customer, a long time customer, a lifetime customer is ideal. I'm going to walk you through how to do this in today's lesson. So let's get into it. Let's get down to business. Today's episode of the $100 NBA show is supported by the running Remote conference. When we started our business, we chose to make our team a remote team. We wanted access to the best talent around the world. So if you're thinking about building a team without borders, without walls, then you need to attend the running remote conference. You're going to hear from experts from big companies that run their teams remotely and I'll be there to speak about how to motivate your remote team beyond compensation. Okay, so our email list lead, the person has opted in. They've consumed our freebie or our free trial or whatever it is. Now they're on our email list. Now we're going to get a little technical when it comes to software to do what we're going to be talking about today. Segmenting and making sure that we're communicating the right message to the right people as we're nurturing them. We're going to have to have a tool called tagging. Now most intermediate or advanced email marketing software will have this. Softwares like ActiveCampaign, Infusionsoft, ConvertKit, AWeber. These have tagging. Just go to their website, the one that you use or are thinking about using and find out if they have this feature called tagging. What tagging is is that you have a way to label the person that has opted in when they opt in. So you know why they opted in or how they opted in. So for example, they may have opted in for a free trial on my homepage. So I want to tag them with the tag trial. But I might be running a webinar and I have a little invite for my webinar on a page or on a banner or something like that. And that's how they got on my list and I want to know that. So when they sign up for my webinar I want to tag them with the tag webinar. This is going to make sense in a bit. But the point here is that we want to make sure that we label the people that have come into our list so we know how they came in, we got to know context, we got to know how they came in. And of course if they're a customer, we want to tag them as customer because we want to talk to our customers, people that have already bought already differently from those who haven't bought yet. So make sure you have this tagging in place. And what I like to do is I like to create a sequence of emails, nurturing emails based on the tag. And this is just an initial sequence of emails. So if they've come on my sales page or my main opt in, let's say my, let's say my main opt in is a free course, a seven part video course and the Tag on there is video course. Okay, so they've consumed the course, they've taken the course, now what? So, so I want to talk to them directly. I want to create a series of emails talking about, hey, you just completed the course, I hope you've enjoyed it. Let's take it to the next step. What's the next step? You want to hold their hand and nurture them throughout the process. Now the sequence of emails is often called an automation. And basically what you're doing is you're telling the email marketing software, hey, I want you to send this email when this action takes place. So in my case I want to trigger my first email of the sequence for this type of lead only after they've completed the online course. So I'll create a condition like they've opened that last email from the course and or seven days have passed because it's a seven day course. Once that has been done, I trigger it to send the first email of the sequence, my nurturing sequence for people that have taken the course. So you have to ask yourself for that type of person that's come into your email list, what is a natural progression? You want to address the fact that they've just taken the course and you want to see if they have any questions and you can have a simple email just saying, hey, let me know if you have any questions about the course. I know you just finished it. Reply to this email and, and you can get them to reply to the email so they can email you and ask questions. What would be the next step? The next step is I would want them to see my product in action so I could show them how to implement what they learned in the course. So email 2 would be in this automation and I'd probably trigger this maybe two days after they got that first email asking them how the course went, if they have any questions. And I could do this with my automation sequence. So two days later they get an email that says, hey, I know you got all this information, now you know how to do this. Let's see what it looks like when you implement what you learned. Join me for a live webinar for a live workshop where I demo all this and you give them an invite link and this is just a link to the registration page. Easy. Now you notice that I said two days later this automation will roll depending on when they opt in. It's not a specific date that this is getting sent out, but just two days after you receive the first email. So everybody that comes into your list follows the sequence. And every couple days they get an email. Now in these advanced email marketing softwares, you can trigger and you can ask the email software to say, hey, if they don't click on that registration page link in the email that I sent an email to, I want you to send this follow up email in a day or two days, whatever you choose, and say, hey, I've noticed you did not register, not click on the link or whatever. Just want to give you another reminder if there's some reason why you don't want to attend the webinar, let me know whatever it is. So you could see how these sequences work. Now say, for example, they do attend the webinar. I'm going to create a whole new sequence. And this sequence will only be triggered if they've gone through the first sequence, which is after they've taken the course, the one we just went through. And they are not tagged as a customer yet, meaning that they haven't converted to a customer. See how the tagging is important? So I can identify if they're a customer or not. And this will be a sequence of emails describing the benefits or the offer that I had on the webinar, giving them more information, maybe giving them a video demo, giving them a replay of the webinar. You, you get the point. But when I have these set sequences and they're triggered based on actions, I can nurture and walk them through the process of becoming a customer. Now, the beauty of this is that you just set this up pretty much once and then tweak it along the way. So for example, that sequence of following up after the webinar, if they did not buy, they're not a customer yet. I'll use that sequence for different tagged customers. So customers that opted in for something completely different, maybe an ebook that I offer and they go through that ebook sequence and then I invite them to a webinar, they attend, but they don't buy. And then I add them to this sequence because, hey, I can still use the sequence. For those who come from different ways, some customers convert faster than others. Some customers, it takes months, even years for them to convert into a customer. What you're looking here for is engagement. You want to make sure that they're opening the emails, that they're, they're clicking on the link. If they're engaging, they're still interested. If they're not engaging, if they're not opening the emails, that means they probably maybe opted in for the freebie, the free trial, whatever, and just lost interest, or they're just not a good fit. So I like to have an exit sequence, meaning that I have a sequence that's triggered based on if they've opened emails in the last month, two months, six asking them, hey, if you're still interested, let me know. Reply or click a button that says yes and then I can trigger and say okay, keep this person on. Or I can say to the email marketing software, hey, if they don't click that button, unsubscribe them. Yes, I know we worked hard on getting them, but they're not a good fit and I don't want to spend and waste time and money on somebody that really doesn't want to be served. And remember, conversions are key. So if I have a smaller list but a stronger list, my conversions are going to be much higher versus a bloated list with a bunch of people that really are not interested in what you offer. Guys, I got more on part two of our email list Building lesson. But before that, let me give love to Today's sponsor. The $100 MBA show is brought to you by Udemy. So once you have your sequences all set up and you're converting your leads into customers, that's not the end. Yes, you should be happy that they're customers now, but you need to nurture your customers. You need to make sure they stay customers. They don't cancel, they don't refund. Make sure you have a sequence, which is called an onboarding sequence. So once they're tagged as a customer, have a series of emails showing them how to best Utilize your product or service tips and tricks. Maybe invite them to a private webinar where you can show them some really great ways to get the best out of their purchase. Continue to give them value and updates throughout the months ahead. So maybe at the start your onboarding sequence will be a little bit more frequent. So you'll maybe send three or four emails a week. But as time goes on, you want to continue to nurture them with at least one email a week with great information and updates, as well as include them in the process of refining your product or service. Ask them questions, get them involved. Make them feel like they're a part of what you're building, what you're improving. Send surveys and get their feedback on what they want to see next in your product or service. Well, there you have it, guys. We crammed a lot in this two part lesson on advanced email list building. Your job now is to get to work. You could do this. Remember, focus on quality leads and high conversions and understand that it's a relationship you're building. You're nurturing your customers to get to a point of sale where they feel super confident with their purchase. All right, that wraps up today's lesson.
