When it comes to email promotions, we want to make sure that we maximize sales as much as possible. I'm going to give you the tip and the rationale behind it. Number one, before the actual promotion, you want to give your email subscribers a heads up, a warning, at least one week. So say for example, your promotion is on June 8, then June 1 you want to make sure this email goes out and basically it's a heads up. It says, hey, we got a great promotion that's coming up in one week. This is the date, this is what's going to happen and this is what I want you to do on this day on the 8th of June. In this example, tell them all about your product, your service and why they don't want to miss this deal. Now a lot of people think, hey, hey, I don't want to send this email because it's going to prevent people from buying from the 1st of June to the 8th. In this example, that's a hit we're willing to take because if they make that decision, hey, I'M going to wait until I buy that day or during the promotion. It means they're going to buy. That means that email. That warning email closed the sale. It moved them from somebody who's not a buyer to a buyer. That's what we want. The warning also allows them to think about the promotion and about your products and services and why they want to sell. Sign up for it before they actually have to make the decision to do so. People have to warm up to the idea of buying something, especially if your product or service is a high price ticket item and not just an impulse buy like a pack of gum. I think about any purchase I make over $100 and I often have thought about that purchase several times before I actually make that purchase. And this is what we're trying to do here with this warning email. Get them thinking about it beforehand, get them excited, give them a reason to buy. So number one, give them at least a week's warning and leading up to the promotion, in that week you can give several reminders, especially the day before the promotion starts. And that leads me to tip number two, sending several emails is not a bad idea. My typical email promotion includes at least seven emails and that would include the warning email, the leading up to emails, the emails within the promotion period, last chance emails, all that kind of stuff. A lot of people think I don't want to send too many emails, but seven emails spread over a period of time is not too bad. People don't check their email like they check their notifications on their phone or something like that. They may miss an email. You want to be top of mind and top of inbox. So don't be stingy with your emails. Make sure you give enough information. And again, if you're doing a great promotion, you can't cram all the information in one email. You have to spread it over time. Whether it's the backstory of why you started your company, or the benefits of your actual promotion or discount, or the bonuses you're going to include, or why now is the best time to buy. You got to get these messages across, but you just can't do it in one email. So you got to make sure that you spread it across several emails with several reminders. Typically I like to do the one week out few days before the day before. So that's three emails. So the day before the promotion I say, hey, heads up. Tomorrow check your inbox, click the link inside so you can take on this promotion. And then during the promotion, let's say it's A three day promotion. Every day I'm giving out an email and the last day I have a couple last chance emails as well. So we're looking at seven to eight emails. And sometimes I do follow up emails after the promotion. So the promotion's over. What about those people that feel like they missed out? They missed the promotion. For some reason they were traveling, they missed that email. You can give them an alternative offer. It may not be as good as promotion, but they'll feel like they're being taken care of if you give them something. Number three. Tip number three. When it comes to your emails, every single email needs to have a clear call to action or cta. Now you might be thinking, oh, the call to action is click the button and buy, right? Well, maybe for some emails. With some emails it'll be something else. Like make sure my emails are not going to your promotions tab. Make sure, move it to your inbox. Or star this email to make sure it's easy to find in your inbox or call to action. Be like, set a reminder in your calendar that at 8am tomorrow the promotion starts. The point here is that every email needs to have a call to action. It can't just be information. They need to know what the next step is. You need to give them that step, hold them by the hand and show them what to do next. Tip number four. Deadlines need to be crystal clear. So every promotion has a deadline, right? The promotion ends at a certain day, certain time. It's the whole point of the promotion. The promotion obviously creates a sense of scarcity because they're not going to be able to take on this promotion after a certain time or date. But the effectiveness of the promotion and the scarcity loses its power when they don't know the deadline or the deadline is kind of foggy. So make sure your deadline is clear. You need to buy before this time. This promotion ends this time. Make it bold. Change the color in the subject lines of your last chance emails. Two hours to go before it's all over. Two hours left to get this crazy deal. Things like that. Some people even insert a countdown timer within their email with some sort of gif. You can google that and figure out how to do that. The point here is that you have a deadline. Utilize it. Make sure people know the deadline. You may have to reiterate it several times in one email, in each email, but make sure it's prominent and it's clear. All right, that leads me to tip number five. This is a killer tip. Not a lot of people Use this with email promotions. I'm going to share with you this tip in a moment, but before that, let me give love to today's sponsor. Alright, tip number five My killer unutilized tip when it comes to email promotions, and that's retarget with Q and A via email. Let me explain. With most email marketing softwares like like ActiveCampaign, Infusionsoft, ConvertKit, they allow you to add a pixel to your website and this is some simple code that goes to the header of the website. Your web developer could do this yourself or you could do it in WordPress pretty simply. But the point here is that your email marketing software can track if somebody who's opened a campaign email has been to your website or at a particular page on your website. So it may be your checkout page. So what you could do is create an automated email in your email marketing software. And this is pretty straightforward. You can get on customer support and ask them how to do this. And this automated email basically is triggered whenever somebody's opened an email. And basically you add a trigger to allow an email to fire when a scenario happens. And this scenario is they've opened the campaign email and they've been on your checkout page but they have not become a customer yet. This means somebody's on the fence and they're not really sure to buy or not. And they may have a question or two that needs answering so they can actually become a customer. So you can automate an email to go out to say, hey, we've noticed that you visited our site or you're on our checkout page or you're interested in our product and you can make a little joke by saying, technology is crazy these days and we're able to reach out to you when we know you're on our website. The point here is you want to ask them, hey, do you have any questions about this product, about the promotion, about anything at all? We'd love to answer it. Just reply to this email and we'll get on top of it. This will allow you to close more sales because people might ask simple questions like, do you take this type of credit card? Do you have a payment plan? Or is this product good for beginners? It gives that personal touch where you answer a question directly with a customer or your customer service team can do this and allows them to feel like they're being taken care of and confident to buy from you. The great thing is once you set this up, once, it's easy to do over and over for future promotions. Well, there you have it. Here are my five killer tips when it comes to email marketing. Promotion for more sales. Number one, give them warning. At least a week's warning. Number two, don't be stingy with your emails. Seven emails. Eight emails is not too much. Number three, every email should have a clear call to action, regardless if you're telling them to buy or wait until the time for the promotion or mark their calendars. Number four, deadlines have to be super clear or the whole idea of the promotion and the scarcity is just not going to have its true effectiveness. And number five, retargeting with a Q and a email when they visit your checkout page. There you have it, guys. Those are my five tips. Take them on. Start utilizing them in your email campaigns right now. Thank you so much for listening to the $100 MBA show. I want to let you know that tomorrow is a very, very special episode.
