Welcome to Off the VPN, a new podcast where two work besties get real about working in tech. There are posts and messages all over the internet, people seeking out advice on how they should solve problems in their tech jobs or how they should talk to their manager about something that's difficult.
There's a lot of cultural things that happen in the tech space that we kind of we talk about, but we never really deep dive. Like, hey, that felt weird, or why is this super common, and starting to set new standards, or how to, like, empower others to find their voices, like Allison and I kind of have found our own.
And those things often aren't brought out into the open, especially because they are personal. Because we've spent so much time talking about those things with one another, it's helped me realize that actually we should be saying these things out loud.
In each episode, we scour the internet for wild engineering situations and difficult questions about working around tech. Sometimes we'll even share yours. Allison and I are gonna find the juiciest stories that we possibly can find from people around tech, engineers, engineering managers, leaders. We are going to navigate some tough stuff. We're gonna battle it out. Even though we're work besties, we typically disagree, but in the best of ways.
There's going to be things that we read that are upsetting or frustrating, possibly things that we resonate with on a personal level that might lead us to sharing our own experiences. But I also think we wanna try and find moments to laugh. There's some crazy stuff out there, things that are really truly hard to believe. And Jasmine and I are not necessarily ones to hold back.
