Delphi Oracle: Ancient Wisdom & Asking the Right Questions #inspiredleadership #businessmanagement

And so the Delphi Oracle was the most powerful mortal female in Greek society, very patriarchal society, but Aristotle and kings and princes went to her to ask for advice, and then she would channel that from Apollo. So she was really looked at as a powerful person. So when you go there, I'd always imagined that for those who just went to Delphi, it's about a 2.5-hour drive from Athens to Delphi. And if you're going to walk that, I don't know, it takes 2.5 days, 3 days, something like that. So I always imagined this group of people around the fire at night. We just took the first day and we're sitting around the fire and we're talking to each other. And I go like, so Melissa, what are you going to ask the Delphi Oracle? And you go, I don't know. No, no, no, you know what you're going to ask. And then you say, well, I'm going to ask this question. We all sit back and go like, I don't know, this might be my answer to that. And then we all kind of work on that and we give you these answers back. And then you go like, I might have to change my question for the oracle. I was just talking to Sarah and Charles yesterday. We've now talked— we talk about it as prompt engineering now, is asking good questions. Well, they were doing that a gazillion years ago. So thinking about that, we ask these questions and we take another day. We walk all day long and then we have another gathering around the fire and talk about our questions, our renewed questions. So then we get there, and then we get to ask the Delphi a question. And we go up there, and it's on this hillside, so there are all these switchbacks to get up there. And then you ask your question, and then somehow you get a hit. She answers your question, or you get a hint. Something happens in there, in that space, and you walk away with this answer that you got for your question.
