After leaving Accenture, the speaker exported 2,400 contacts from Outlook and enriched them with LinkedIn and Facebook data. He calls this his critical mass: a network to tap for new projects and initiatives, focusing on people within two degrees of separation instead of advertising to strangers.

So, what I've done when I left Accenture, I had my chief of staff, I gave her a dump of my Outlook. They went out to LinkedIn, they went out to Facebook and they created a list of people. You both are on that list by the way. So, there's this list and it turned into, I think I'm about 2,400 people on that list. When I think about Wisdom Council and thinking about, oh, I need to get people into Wisdom Council, I've got a list of 2,400. I believe there's a critical mass of people in that list that will fill Wisdom Council. I just have to find out who they are. So in that sense, that's my critical mass. And I came to that because people say, you need to advertise this thing. If I advertise Wisdom Counsel, I'm talking to people I don't know. And it's going to take me a long time. And I have to qualify them. Why don't I just rely on people I know? And so in that sense, that's the critical mass. I would say for you guys too, when you're looking for the next engagement or the next project, by this time in your life, you have critical mass of contacts, people that you know. And it's probably 2 degrees of separation is where the next thing is in some way, some shape, some form. So that's my story of minimum viable community. Think about who you know and where those contacts are.
