How to Build a Movement That Actually Lasts (My Monthly & Annual Rhythm Blueprint) #createamovement

Patrick Mosher shares how to sustain a movement through recurring programs. His model: a free monthly offering, a paid monthly cohort, and annual signature retreats. He argues that a consistent monthly program is the financial backbone that keeps a community alive and engaged.

And more importantly, the Trojan horse that you have. Okay, monthly programs. I have a Journey to Delphi or a Journey to wherever we're going for Wisdom Council that year. Amber's been on that for a little while. And that's free. I have this SIM, which is a paid-for program. I have Early Career Success. I just launched that this summer with students. They pay $20 a month to do basically what we do here. And, but it's with students. So I love doing that too. I have a monthly coaching program that I do with folks. And then I have Wisdom Council monthly. If you've joined Wisdom Council, then there's a monthly call that we've been running since 2018. Now, I'd encourage you to think a monthly program is key. If you have, I'm thinking more about you, Amber, having some sort of monthly thing beyond the course. The monthly thing creates monthly recurring revenue. And, that's what you need. Selling a course by course, it's like there's an up and down to that. So how do you get that monthly recurring revenue to a place where it's generating funds for you? So I'd encourage you to think about that. For you too, monthly, I'd also think about being on the job creating a monthly community of practice of some sort. Okay. So, so, Jack, I can see as you're looking for stuff, as you start thinking about, when I go into this new company, I wanna create a community of people. Who are the people in that community? What are they trying to do? They're trying to do stuff similar to your mission. Now, when you do interviews, you're saying, yeah, I got this job, but you know, the other thing I wanna do is I wanna create a stronger community of people like this to create a— and they're going like, nobody else has interviewed and said anything about that. That's kind of the good citizenship stuff that we do. But man, nobody talks about that as part of the job interview and saying, I want to create that. Paul, similar for you. It's like, I don't know who your units would be for this monthly program. But, you know, when we were all at Accenture, there was either a monthly gathering in the Minneapolis office of T&OP or change management people or whatever. You've got the Minnesota Change Management Network. That's a monthly thing. So there's, what are your monthly rhythms that you hold onto? Think about those. Those are really key to sustain a movement, not just to build a movement, launch a movement, but to sustain a movement is you gotta have that monthly recurring revenue, those monthly rhythms that you have. So, so be a part of creating those. Cool with that? Monthly programs. And then I have annual stuff. So, uh, I have 3 annual things that I do. Um, one is I have my Wisdom Council. We just got back from Delphi 2 weeks ago, 3 weeks ago. Um, which was awesome. I have stories from that. If you ever want to get together on a one-on-one, I'll have that conversation with you. Um, Amber knows that I have a summer encampment that we go out to South Dakota. She went with us this past 2 summers to primitive camping out. Well, semi-primitive because we have water and electricity. But we would go out there and we get to see the Milky Way at night. Yeah, it's just awesome. I also have an annual retreat that I do with the Franciscan thing as a part of philanthropic. So those are my units of value. It's not so important that you know mine. But I just wanted to lay out there, you know, I'm, I'm not this great big mystery that I don't share with folks. It's just I don't have an opportunity to tell people. But think about what your rhythms are on a weekly, monthly, annual basis. And, you know, related to your business and related to your community. Communities are gonna be absolutely key in the future. Okay.
