How to create your unique, personal brand - Wisdom4Humanity with Patrick Mosher

When I was in big consulting, I worked at Accenture for years, and I would get career counselees coming and saying, "Well, Patrick, help me get staffed on these big jobs. Help me be unique out there with what my talent is. Help me build my talents. Help me be better at what I do." And I'd sit back and I'd go like, "Okay." What is your personal brand? They go like, what do you mean? I was like, what's your personal brand? What makes you unique? And inevitably they would say something like, well, I'm really good with people and I work really hard. And I'd say, okay, great, you and 400,000 other people that work here. That's not unique, that's a generic brand. You don't want to be a generic brand. You want to be a unique brand. So then I'd ask them, so if I was looking at a stack of 20 people to staff on this great job that you wanted, that would build the skills you want, if I look at those 20 resumes, those 20 profiles, what makes yours pop out to say, oh, choose me? That's what personal brand gets you. And so I'd have that conversation with them. And so when I think about personal brand, you know, I think about it being these things. Personal brand, I'm gonna use these interchangeably today even though they're not quite the same thing, but personal brand, uniqueness, talent, superpower, I think of these as all the code that's written in your DNA. It's that superpower, it's that uniqueness that you have. It's that talent, it's that superpower. So those are the different ways to think about it.
