How to Use Deviant Positivity to Inspire the World - Wisdom4Humanity with Patrick Mosher

Patrick Mosher explains deviant positivity: being unusually upbeat and grateful during routine interactions like dentist visits or customer service calls. He shares stories of thanking dental staff by name and approaching tech support with gratitude instead of complaint, arguing that being the most positive person someone encounters that day can shift their mood and ripple outward.

When I have a dentist appointment and I'm walking through the door of the dentist's— and, you know, dentist appointments aren't that sexy or cool, or, you know, I kind of don't like them. I don't like my teeth being cleaned because it hurts my gums and all that kind of stuff. I know I should probably floss better, all that kind of stuff, but whatever. When my hand hits that door, I go like, okay, trigger. When I enter this office, my job is to be the best customer they've seen today. So I walk through there, and this requires deviant positivity. I walk through the door and I go like, and I try to remember the names of the people. Hi, Meg. She's like, oh, hi. Hey, I have to take your temperature because it's new policies. I was like, great. She comes out there, does that. It's like, so you're here to see Dr. Blah, blah, blah. And I said, yeah. And she goes, well, you can take a seat. It's like, thank you so much. Hey, how's your day going? She's like, oh, it's going good. It's like, okay, great. So then I stand off to the side and then the person comes back and says— the dental hygienist comes and says, "Hey, I'm going to take you back to the thing." "Hey, how's your day going?" "It's great." "Who's been your best customer so far? Best client?" She's like, "I don't know, this person." "Wow, that sounds cool." So I just engage and then I sit down and I've got their hands in my mouth or whatever and then they take them out and I go like, "Wow, that was great. Thank you so much for cleaning my teeth today. That's been so great." so good. The doctor comes in. So anyway, I just try to be that deviant positivity that when I walk out, people go like, "I wonder what he was on?" You know? Because it's like, we can be that for other people. I love doing that with customer service places because these people, they take customer complaints all the day. And so I walk in and they're like, "Okay." Basically they're saying, "What are you going to complain about?" And I'm like, Hey, I got this thing, it's not working right. Now that's not your fault. I mean, it's not your fault at all. So here's this thing, this is what I'm looking for, is there some way you can help me with this? They're like, well, I can help you with this. It's like, that would be awesome, thank you so much. And they're like, wow, I don't have happy customers. I love to have that deviant positivity for people. So how can you do that for people? And where do you do that deviant positivity? Put that in the chat. Where can you exhibit this? Maybe look at your schedule for the next week and go like, where can I show this deviant positivity?
