Break big projects into small chunks so you can estimate time accurately. A $2 billion project was divided into 190,000 hourly work-day plans to track every piece of work.

Write that down, chewable chunks. So it's like, whoa, that's a big mountain of work. And a great consultant will go like, how do I— this is the analytic in me— how do you break it down into its chewable chunks? Is there 17 chewable chunks? Great, I can break that down into that. But when you can break it down into chewable chunks, then each of those chunks, then you're going to know how much time it's going to take for each of those chunks. Again, the analytic in me loves that kind of stuff. I love the spreadsheets that break things into chewable chunks. The $2 billion project that I was on, that I was a part of, literally all the work across that $2 billion project was broken down into work plans to the hour. I think it was 190,000 workday work plans, something like that.
