Steps 2 through 5 of Crafting Your Story of Persistence & Endurance - Wisdom4Humanity with Patrick

Patrick walks through a framework for telling your story of persistence, using his own battle with extreme shyness as an example. He breaks it down: the possibility that drove him (talking to the prettiest girl he saw), the struggle points (friends distancing, stumbling over words), the magic moment (when she responded positively), and the result (lasting confidence to speak to anyone).

And then what— these might be similar, but what was the possibility? Possibility. What was the possibility that pulled you? What drove you, but what pulled you? What pulled me is, well, you know, I picked a really good one. It's like, for me, it was like the prettiest girl. It's like, okay, I look around and go like, she's really pretty. I could never talk to her. Oh my gosh, no, she'll never talk to me back. Oh, this is going to be so humiliating. And many times it was. It was exactly my biggest fear. But what pulled me is to be able to do that. I picked a great target to pull me into that possibility. What were some of the struggle points? What were some of the struggle points? You know, for me, along the way, I can go back to so many of those parties that I went to, and the parties were like, the struggle points were friends cutting me off, me stumbling over my own words, not being able to tell a story, going up there and mumbling, how I walked up, the nonverbals, all of those were struggles along the way that I had to overcome, things that I had no idea of, like the problems that I had to overcome. So what are the struggles? And then every story— oh, this is so good— every story should have a magic moment. Every story should have a magic moment. That moment where you walk up, and for me, walking up and going like, talking to this person, and then she actually says something back. That's the magic moment. It's like, this is working. I didn't realize this is working. So what are some of those magic moments in the story that you have? Something that gave you an inkling of hope along the way. And then every story should have a result. What was the result? At the end of this, I felt like I had the confidence to talk to anybody, not just the prettiest girl in the room, but to talk to anybody. I could then talk to administrators, people of power and authority. I could talk in front of a classroom, any of those things, because I had overcome my greatest fear, and now everything else was like, I got that done, I can do that. So what was the result? The result for me is that I overcame my shyness. I overcame a personality trait. That's awesome for me.
