In this workshop segment, the facilitator introduces the concept of origin stories as a catalyst for activating and engaging communities around a movement or business. He emphasizes that sharing personal struggles, the search for solutions, and the eventual solution creates a compelling narrative that invites others to join the journey. The speaker outlines a three‑part story framework—struggle, search, solution—and stresses that vulnerability, rather than a flawless façade, builds credibility and trust. Participants are encouraged to use a "Story Build Checklist" to craft and share their own origin stories, with the facilitator offering to provide the checklist via email.

Let's talk about origin stories. That's what I wanna do today is what are, what are the origin stories? And when I thought about this, about activating communities, when you have something significant that you're trying to move, so often the, the thing that helps motivate people, activate people is your origin story for the movement or the thing that you're building. And when I'm looking at you guys, I, I know you all have origin stories. Paul, you're working on, you know, that's like your world right now is your origin story, which is great. Keziah, I'm not sure, do you tell your origin story? And it's like, oh, that's how people engage with you more. They get— because they become a part of your journey and they want to join you on your journey, right? So there's a part of that, right? Nate, your origin story of like where this comes from. So, so we're going to talk about building your origin story today and when people hear the struggles, and we'll talk about struggle, search, solution, that's the basic framework for story crafting. And so what's the struggle? You know, now I keep looking at Keziah in the center of my screen right now. It's like, hey, when I was starting this thing, this is the struggles that I faced. I couldn't find the collaborators. I couldn't build a team. I didn't have the tools. I had to find some friendlies along the way to help me support. Aren't those the basic things that you're trying to help people do in their businesses? Right. But, but sometimes it's like, no. And this is, this is old world for many of us on this call. It's the old world going, I can't show any chinks in my armor. I have to be all the one prepared. It's like, no, these days vulnerability is the new credibility. Like, I faced these issues. I built those things. They're like, she's done what I'm doing right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you know, I'm still facing some of those issues. You know, we could work on this stuff together. So there's a bit of this that, that is a part of your origin story that really helps people go like, this is why I wanna hire them. Right? Okay. So, and I recommend you all have the story build checklist. Please download that, pull that across. If you don't have it, email me, I'll send it to you again. But I'd really love to have, um, you guys use the Story Build Checklist and build your origin story because I'm sure it'll be useful for you in some ways.
