Patrick Mosher defines consulting not as problem-solving but as helping clients make a continuous series of sound decisions. Wisdom, he says, is knowledge and experience manifested in the world. The consultant's job is to present clear options and guide clients through choosing between them.

My definition of wisdom— you should write this down— the soundness of act or decision based on knowledge, experience, and good judgment. So my view of wisdom isn't something that the Dalai Lama has. It's an act or decision, so it's in the world. And I wanted to start with that because my view of consulting is you're helping the client make a string of sound decisions. You do all the problem-solving. Yeah, that's a part of it. But you're, what you're doing the problem solving for is to present a decision for them to go right or left, up or down, do something. And then you're helping them make a string of those decisions. Does that make sense to folks? I, I've never heard it described that way, but as I looked over my career, that's what consulting is.
