So why should you build a significant story of persistence and endurance? Why, why build stories? I've got some very interesting statistics here. First of all, I read a book called Life's Transitions, and one of the things that they cited in there was some statistics. And this is a study by Marshall and Feivish, and they asked questions of people. Do you know where your grandparents met? They asked children this. Do you know, do you know an illness or injury your parents experienced when they were younger? Think about this with your own parents. Do you know where your grandparents met? Do you know an illness or injury your parents experienced when they were younger? And here's the thing, children who scored highest on these, on these questions had a greater belief that they could control the world around them. It was the number one predictor of children's emotional well-being. Number one predictor of emotional well-being was do they know the stories of their parents and their grandparents. Stories matter, folks. It matters to our children. It matters to our nieces and nephews. It matters to them. So in this book, they also go through three stories. There's three types of stories. Ascending stories where we worked hard and made it work. There's the descending stories. We had it all and it went away. Somehow the world took it away from us. Those are descending stories. But the most powerful stories for children, for any of us, is to tell the stories of oscillating. Of I had it, I lost it, I got it back, I worked hard, did the new thing, lost it again. Did this thing, went hard, got it, lost it again. That tells— those stories give people the sense of hope, but it also says that life is up and down, and it gives them a reality check of like, I can get through this. It gives them a sense of persistence and endurance. So stories are so important. So what I'd like you to do to get your story rolling here is brainstorm 10 achievements in your life. Go ahead and write those down. What are 10 achievements in your life?
