In this concise "6 questions in 7 minutes" interview, Professor Pete Alexander hosts Eric M. Twiggs, who brands himself as a procrastination‑prevention partner, author of The Discipline of Now, and host of The 30 Minute Hour podcast. Twiggs explains his mission to help entrepreneurs and executives eliminate excuses, beat procrastination, and increase productivity and confidence. He emphasizes that clear vision is the essential first chapter for any company, warning against trying to be everything to everyone. He advises leaders to surround themselves with great people and, crucially, to seek mentors who have already achieved the results they aspire to, thereby shortening their learning curve. Twiggs recommends sales guru Doug Brown as a valuable guest for future episodes. He shares a formative story about his first job as a building‑maintenance aide in a Washington, D.C. summer program, highlighting how the experience taught work ethic, clarified what he didn’t want to do, and motivated his later success. The episode concludes with a call‑to‑action directing listeners to his website, thedisciplinenownow.com, where his book and contact information are available.

This is Professor Pete Alexander with the Winning at Business and Life podcast, where business leaders share their insights. It is 6 questions in 7 minutes because successful business leaders are busy and rarely have more time to spare. So let's get to it. Question number 1: In a few sentences, please tell me who you are and what you do.
I am Eric. My name is Eric M. Twiggs. I'm your procrastination prevention partner. I'm the author of The Discipline of Now, and I'm the host of the 30 Minute Hour podcast. And I help entrepreneurs and executive leaders to ditch their excuses, to beat procrastination so they can make more money, get more done, and feel more confident.
Well, Eric, it's a pleasure to have you on the show, and I think everybody can appreciate what you're, what you're saying that you can help people with. Question number 2: What is something that makes you smile and/or laugh about working in your industry?
Well, just the, the com— the common issues that come up. You know, I've seen people that are highly successful, that are, that have reached a certain point, but just there's certain things that they don't like to do, so they may procrastinate. So you feel like it's just, you're just by yourself when you have a certain challenge, but you realize that the challenges are everywhere, but you have the opportunity to put the discipline, the disciplines in place to overcome them.
I like that. Question number 3: I have a fictitious book with all the answers for business. What chapter would you think most companies should read?
Um, I think most companies should read chapter 1 that talks about vision. 'Cause I think, I just believe that clarity is the starting point of success. And you need to really be clear on where you're trying to go and who your customers are. I think that's just so important. A lot of businesses try to be everything to everybody all the time. And I think that's a recipe for failure. So I would definitely check out your vision chapter.
I love it. And I would agree with you 100%. Question number 4, other than the generic work harder, have a great attitude and care for customers, What advice or insight would you give to other business leaders?
Well, I would say surround yourself with great people. I just think that is so important. And not just employees, but also find mentors. Find someone who has the result that you aspire to. It's not necessary to reinvent the wheel. Mm-hmm.
I like that. So finding the mentors, are you saying so that we can model them to be successful like they are, that their success.
And I think you can shorten your learning curve. So if you want to run, uh, if you've got a million-dollar business and you want to be successful at running a $10 million business, why not find somebody who's successfully running a $10 million business? I mean, they can just save you a lot of time and headaches. You can find out what they do, what they're doing, and you can do the same thing.
Absolutely. Because yeah, they've, they've been there, they've done it. So it's, it's very wise, uh, insight. Thank you so much. Question number 5: What other business leaders like yourself would you like to acknowledge and invite to be on my podcast?
Well, I'd like to acknowledge Doug Brown. He is a sales guru. I just had him on my podcast, The 30 Minute Hour, and I was taking notes. Some of the things that he was mentioning as far as just sales and being successful in business and being successful in life, I think Doug Brown would be, be an excellent addition for your show.
Well, it sounds like it. I look forward to interviewing him. Thanks for that referral. And our final question, question number 6, please tell me about your first job.
So my first job, this was back when I was in my high school days. And in the Washington, D.C. area, the mayor at the time, Mayor Marion Barry, he had a summer jobs program where he made sure that all the youth had a job. They were employed. So my summer job, I was a building maintenance aide. It sounds fancy, but I was really helping the janitors. Really. And I hated it. But you know what? It taught me several things. It taught me the importance of work ethic. And it taught me that— it taught me what I didn't want to do. And it did help me to focus because I knew I needed to make sure I had a plan, and I was going to school because if not, I could end up somewhere that I didn't really want to be.
Oh, what a great lesson. I love that story because it's true. It gave you that motivation that you needed to be where you are today, right?
Oh, for sure. I mean, I still think about that. And yeah, that was— I hated it at the time, but I do think it was a useful experience.
I would agree. That's great. And so, Eric, thank you so much for being on the show. How can people find you?
