A short YouTube video ("Add value FIRST") in which the narrator describes reaching out to YouTuber/filmmaker Eric Floberg to offer free help shooting B-roll/second camera and online course videos. After visiting Eric's studio and assisting in production, the narrator emphasizes the lesson that prioritizing adding value to others first makes you stand out and positions you to receive value later.
This is Eric Floberg. He's a YouTuber and filmmaker with over 100,000 subscribers. And this is the story of how I got to meet him and help him shoot a couple of his videos. So I started by reaching out to Eric, asking how I could help him and hopefully learn from his creative process.
I just wanted to reach out to you to offer my services, shoot some BTs for you, or second shoot for free, hopefully learn from you and hopefully offer something of value in return.
He responded a little while later saying he'd love some help shooting his online courses. And. And so I came out to the studio. I got the chance to see him and his creative process and offer what I could to the production of his videos. By focusing on adding value to Eric and making whatever I gained from the experience secondary, I was able to stand out from the crowd of people who were asking to just second shoot for him sometime. So here's the moral of the story. When you add value, first you stand out from the crowd and you put yourself in a much better position to receive value later on.
