A short YouTube clip by Peter Vander Wall advising service-based businesses (e.g., tax/accounting) to build an online community to reshape their image and drive client referrals. Uses a Facebook-group example for real-estate investors: the group's primary value comes from peer professionals networking and sharing expertise (not solely the host). Because members gain value from each other, the community persists and keeps the host top-of-mind when members need paid services.

The next big thing for service based businesses like tax and accounting is creating a community within your business. This is one of the ways you can kind of transform that number cruncher image that people have of accountants. Right. One of my clients has a Facebook group specifically for his ideal client, real estate investor. Now, he's pretty active in there. He comments on at least a couple posts a day. But the real value people are getting from this isn't from him being in the group, it's from other professionals in the space being in the group, networking with these people, getting answers from people with more experience or specific expertise. If, if Ryan died tomorrow, people would still be fairly active in this community for a long time moving forward, because they're not getting the value just from Ryan, they're getting the value from the community. Now, for everybody in this community, when it comes time to hire a tax planner, Ryan's the first guy they think of because they've already gotten so much value from this community. Well, obviously they're going to get even more from working with Ryan one on one.
