Getting too many bad leads? Do this.

Peter Vander Wall explains how to filter bad leads with a simple application form before letting prospects book a call. Pick 2-3 vetting questions, including one about money like income or revenue. Qualified applicants get calendar access and prep videos; everyone else gets a polite no or a cheaper option.

If your phone's ringing off the hook, but the leads aren't really that good, here's what you should do. Now, I'm assuming your phone ringing off the hook is kind of a metaphorical thing because nobody really calls your office anymore, but they're inquiring through your website, you're getting email inquiries, all of this stuff. There's one thing you need to put into place here and it's something we call an application form. Now most people totally screw this up when they implement, so I'm going to put you on some game here. What you need to do is you need to come up with the two to three main vetting characteristics that would decide whether this is a client worth working with or not. So one is for sure going to be a financial qualifier. How much money do they make? How much money do they have saved up? What's their business revenue? Something of that nature? You can come up with the other questions, but these should be simple to answer. Something that they would know offhand right off the top of their head, not something like how much did you pay in taxes last year? Or what's your filing status like? Most people don't know that offhand. And this application survey is going to gatekeep your actual sales calendar. So before somebody just straight up books a time to speak with you, they're going to have to go through this application and, and if they aren't a good fit, then you can either just say hey, sorry, we're not a good fit to work together at this time, or you just make some sort of downsell you can push them to that still gives them some value and hopefully when they do have enough money or they are qualified to work with you, then they'll come back around for the people who are qualified, then they can make it to your actual sales calendar, they can book a call and then hopefully you've got some helpful videos and resources they can go through between now and actually hopping on the call with you.
