Going viral can actually hurt your business. Here's why most people on social media are always trying to go viral. They're tailoring their content towards the algorithm so that they can get views and likes. But that's not a winning strategy if you're trying to build a business. And if you watch to the end, I'm going to share the strategy you should use instead. Imagine you go viral early on when you're still figuring things out. You haven't landed on a format you like, you haven't found your voice, and all of a sudden you've got this massive new audience and this audience has an expectation of you now that you're going to create more of the same content that they followed you for. But if you can't sustain that format or if your voice changes over time, then they're going to be disappointed and they're not going to engage as they disengage. Your account is going to decline and you're going to be getting less views than before you went viral. Instead, you need to dig into the psychology of what your ideal audience wants and how to provide that for them. Your growth is going to be slower, but you're going to be catering towards people instead of an algorithm. These people are going to fall in love with your brand because you're serving them exactly what they want and they're going to become loyal followers for life.
