Peter Vander Wall says you don't need more clients to double profit. Map your current ones across three axes: who you like, who pays most, and who's easiest to work with. Replace your worst clients with ideal ones at that intersection, and you can keep revenue flat while tripling profitability.

Just get more clients is terrible advice when your client list is already full of headaches. And so what I like to do is go through your client list and analyze it based on who you like working with, who pays the most, and who's operationally easiest to serve. And you'll find somewhere in the center of that Venn diagram that's your ideal client. And so now we can build a core offer that fits exactly what that client wants. We can craft messaging that attracts only people who fit that profile. And now for every new ideal client you bring on, you can probably chop off one or two bad clients off the bottom. And so you'll keep reven the same, but your profitability and your quality of life, usually 2 to 3x when you do this. And then once your roster is at least 50% ideal clients, you're in the perfect position to start scaling really hard and actually increase your revenue.
