Peter Vander Wall says a big audience means nothing if people don't know what you actually do. Pick three content pillars, stick to them, and your followers will know what to expect. He uses his own channels as examples: video marketing and social media first, self-development second, fitness third.

Here's a key to social media success that I think a lot of people forget about. There's a lot of accounts out there with a huge audience, but it's really hard to tell what they're about. Ryan Magin is a great example of this. He's got almost 200,000 followers, but he posts content about everything from marriage, advice to get rich quick schemes, crypto content creation. It's not enough just to have an audience. Your audience needs to know what it is you do. I always recommend coming up with three pillars for your content where you've got your first, second and third tiers of stuff that you talk about. For me, my primary topic is video marketing and social media. My secondary topic is self development and my third is fitness. Obviously most of my content is geared towards video marketing and social media. A little bit here and there towards self development. And you really only hear me talk about fitness on my Instagram stories. This ensures that my audience is super clear on what I do. Chances are people are only going to follow me if they're interested in the things that I talk about, and that's a good thing. By staying consistent with those same topics, I can deliver on that interest time and time again.
