How to pick a niche for your accounting firm. Now, the way people typically recommend to do this is basically selecting like an industry that you specialize in. I personally tend to think that's not a great idea because you probably already have an existing business and you have customers in multiple different industries. So what I like to do instead is take what's already working for your business and lean harder into that. Here's what I mean. You're going to take your current clients and you're going to list out every one of them that is a good client, who pays you a good amount that you would want to get more clients like them. And what we're going to do is list out their attributes, what makes them a good client, what do you like about them. And if you assemble these as basically a Venn diagram, you're going to notice there's going to be some common themes and some overlap and that's your niche. You might find that a lot of your best clients bought their business rather than starting it from the ground up. You might find that they're all project based businesses rather than like a recurring service and maybe it will end up being an industry. Right. But this way at least you know, these are clients that I already like working with and I want more of them.
