Precursor Ventures discusses their investment focus on founders who lack easy access to capital and on ideas that are non-obvious or outside consensus. They note a common tension: many claim to want "weird and wonderful" startups, but often reject ideas that are too unconventional when presented.

For me, the interesting companies are the ones where the founder doesn't have sort of all that access to capital and where the idea isn't intrinsically interesting or obvious or consensus good. And we do those companies all the time. And I find to your point, Mia, everyone's like, I want to see the things that are weird and wonderful and different. And then you show them and they're like, oh, but not that weird.
