Type 2 diabetes, formerly known as adult onset, non insulin dependent diabetes, can be lifelong chronic health disease in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or the cells do not respond well to the insulin and that is called insulin resistance. Because of these two problems, there isn't enough insulin to move the glucose from the blood into the cells and hence glucose builds up in the blood instead of going inside the cells and the body's cells cannot function properly. Hello, My name is Dr. Jwon Fwenghi, I'm an endocrinologist practice in Sacramento, California. I'm here to help you with your diabetes management or if you're at high risk for diabetes, we are happy to introduce our lifestyle management program to you to help you with decreasing your risk of developing diabetes. Type 2 diabetes, more likely to occur in people who are above 40 years of age, who are overweight, who have a family history of diabetes, and certain ethnic and racial backgrounds can also have type 2 diabetes. For example, it's more prevalent in people with black background or Hispanics or Asians, including Indians, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Over the past decade, the incidence has been also increasing in young adults and adolescents. That includes increased risk of gestational diabetes as well. We are very concerned about this because these are the people who are not going to just have gestational or diabetes in the young age, but they're likely going to carry it for the rest of their life as well and they're going to have high risk for cardiovascular complications. According to a recent research, type 2 diabetes cannot be cured, so we cannot say we can totally reverse the diabetes. However, individuals who have high glucose levels that returns to non diabetic range by making significant lifestyle changes or by gastric bypass, we call those as achieving complete remission or people who have high glucose levels at one time and who go down now into pre diabetes range. We call that as partial remission. The primary means by which people with type 2 diabetes achieve remission is by losing significant amount of weight. If you're interested in learning what kind of program we offer for lifestyle management, which is considered to be the foundation of management of type 2 diabetes, then please give us a call. Our Number here is 530-677-0700 and we are happy to offer you the lifestyle management program where you have a structured curriculum and we offer help with wellness coaches and you see the team each week and we continue it as long as your needs require.
