Dr. Jaiwant Rangi argues that health insurance is just crisis management, not health. It pays for emergencies and doctor visits but doesn't teach you how to stay healthy. He's building a care system that works outside insurance entirely.

If I offer them something outside, they would always want to see if the health insurance covers the service or help. That's when I decided that I need to change the mindset and I need to talk to my patients and public and educate and empower people about why they need to think outside of this healthcare model. Because the health insurance card is not a health insurance card. It does not insure your health. It's a crisis management card. It just helps you take care yourself if you're having crisis to go to the hospital when you're having symptoms or heart attack, or you could pay for your surgery, or you could pay for doctor's appointments, but it does not teach you anything to create health. So I knew that I have to create a system that is completely out of this insurance-based model because if I just hold on to that, that is not going to serve my patients for things that I'm trying to create.
