In this opening video of a 30‑day dating challenge, Ray Sorrell stresses that genuine honesty with oneself is the essential first step toward successful relationships. He repeatedly asks viewers to examine their own truthfulness about personal habits, financial stability, fidelity, past sexual behavior, child‑support responsibilities, and overall readiness to settle down. Sorrell argues that without this self‑honesty, people become delusional, making unrealistic expectations of potential partners. He urges viewers to confront any self‑deception, consider what they would do if the “right person” appears, and decide whether they truly want a committed relationship or are merely dating casually. The monologue ends with a spiritual note, framing love as a choice aligned with God’s plan.

Okay, y'all, here we go. Day 1 of the 30-day challenge. This is just day 1. Honesty. How honest are you with yourself? How honest are you with yourself? I said more than one time because a lot of times we lie to ourselves. How can you ask for trust from a person if you lie to yourself? One mistake that a lot of us make is going to this dating world, trying to get married or whatever it is, we're not rational, we're not realistic. So number one, you have to ask yourself, am I being honest? Is my credit right? Do I talk too much? Am I a cheater? Am I a person who like a whole bunch of, you know, sex partners? You know, am I a person who like to be in the club a lot? What type of human being am I? Do I have a lot of kids? Do I have baby daddy problems? Do I, Do I pay my child support? Am I stable in my finances? What type of person are you? You must be honest with yourself. If you're not honest with yourself throughout this whole process, it's not going to work. And the reason it's not going to work is because you're not being realistic. You're being, as they say today, delusional. That's not just women, that's men also. You have to tell the truth. Are you ready to even settle down? Or are you really just out here to date? You have to ask yourself, what am I going to do if God sends the right person my way? Am I going to fumble them? Am I going to make sure that they are happy? Are they? Or is it just a bad time in your life? It's okay if it's a bad time in your life, but you have to learn to tell the truth. Quit lying to yourself. You have to stop looking in the mirror and telling yourself that you're okay and you know that there are still problems going on in your life. Day one, before we do anything else, the thing that we deal with the most is honesty. Love is a choice. It's God's plan.
